Sulfinate Esters from Methoxymethyl Sulfides

Several benzene (or phenylmethane) sulfinate esters were synthesized in 53–98% yields from the corresponding methoxymethyl (MOM) sulfides employing NBS as oxidant.     

Ground-state correlation properties of charged bosons trapped in strongly anisotropic harmonic potentials

We study systems of a few charged bosons contained within a strongly anisotropic harmonic trap. A detailed examination of the ground-state correlation properties of two-, three-, and four-particle systems is carried out within the framework of the single-mode approximation of the transverse components. The linear correlation entropy of the quasi-1D systems is discussed in dependence on the confinement anisotropy and compared with a strictly 1D limit. Only at weak interaction the correlation properties depend strongly on the anisotropy parameter.     

A New Insight into the Stereoelectronic Control of the Pd0-Catalyzed Allylic Substitution: Application for the Synthesis of Multisubstituted Pyran-2-ones via an Unusual 1,3-Transposition

Pyran-2-ones 3 undergo a novel Pd⁰-catalyzed 1,3-rearrangement to afford isomers 6 . The reaction proceeds via an η²-Pd complex, the pyramidalization of which (confirmed by quantum chemistry calculations) offers a favorable antiperiplanar alignment of the Pd−C and allylic C−O bonds ( C ), thus allowing the formation of an η³-Pd intermediate. Subsequent rotation and rate-limiting recombination with the carboxylate arm then gives isomeric pyran-2-ones 6 . The calculated free energies reproduce the observed kinetics semi-quantitatively.     

Deep Q-network-based auto scaling for service in a multi-access edge computing environment

In 5G networks, it is necessary to provide services while meeting various service requirements, such as high data rates and low latency, in response to dynamic network conditions. Multi-access edge computing (MEC) is a promising concept to meet these requirements. The MEC environment enables service providers to deploy their low latency services that are composed of multiple components. However, operating a service manually and attempting to satisfy the quality of service (QoS) requirements is difficult because many factors need to be considered in an MEC scenario. In this paper, we propose an auto-scaling method using deep Q-networks (DQN), which is a reinforcement learning algorithm, to resize the number of instances assigned to service. In our evaluation, compared to other baseline methods, the proposed approach maintains the appropriate number of instances effectively in response to dynamic traffic change while satisfying QoS and minimizing the cost of operating the service in the MEC environment. The proposed method was implemented as a module running in OpenStack and published as open-source software.     

Urease adsorption and activity on magnetite nanoparticles functionalized with monofunctional and bifunctional surface layers

The surface of magnetite nanoparticles was coated with functional polysiloxane layers using reaction of hydrolytic copolycondensation of tetraethoxysilane and 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane (or N-[3-trimethoxysilylpropyl]ethylendiamine), and also that of tetraethoxysilane, 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane and methyltriethoxysilane (or n-propyltriethoxysilane). It was shown that these functionalized magnetically controllable particles (about 60–150 nm in size as aggregates), as opposed to magnetite, adsorb urease well from aqueous solutions (up to 1 g/g), and that the level of residual activity of adsorbed layers is up to 84 % in the case of a bifunctional sample. It was established that the activity of immobilized urease is normally gradually reduced during storage of the samples, but in the case of ethylenediamine functional group is not decreased for 45 days. The synthesized samples are promising for use as magnetically directed biocatalysts.     

Reversible C=C Bond Activation by an Intramolecularly Coordinated Antimony(I) Compound

The reaction of N,C,N-chelated stibinidene ArSb ( 1 ) (Ar=C₆H₃-2,6-(CH=NtBu)₂) with selected N-alkyl/aryl-maleimides RN(C(O)CH)₂ (R=Me, tBu, Ph) gave the addition products with bridged bicyclic [2.2.1] structure containing an antimony atom at the bridgehead position, fused with a 6-membered benzene and a 5-membered N-alkyl/aryl-pyrrolidine ring. These compounds were completely characterized. More importantly, additional studies showed that these reactions are reversible in solution, thereby representing an unprecedented reversible activation of a C=C bond by an antimony(I) compound.     

One-pot Synthesis of a Truncated Cone-shaped Porphyrin Macrocycle and Its Self-assembly into Permanent Porous Material

Here, we report the synthesis of a truncated cone-shaped triangular porphyrinic macrocycle, P₃L₃ , via a single step imine condensation of a cis-diaminophenylporphyrin and a bent dialdehyde-based linker as building units. X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the truncated cone-shaped P₃L₃ molecules are stacked on top of each other by π⋯π and CH⋯π interactions, to form 1.7 nm wide hollow columns in the solid state. The formation of the triangular macrocycle is corroborated by quantum chemical calculations. The permanent porosity of the P₃L₃ crystals is demonstrated by several gas sorption experiments and powder X-ray diffraction analysis.
