Tetradecanol dehydrogenation over CuO catalyst supported on BaO, CaO and MgO

Bimetallic Cu/Mg, Ca, Ba mixed oxide compounds acted as catalyst in the dehydrogenation of tetradecanol into tetradecanal, and were characterized by thermal gravimetric analysis, surface area, X-ray diffraction, temperature-programmed reduction and desorption of CO₂. Alkaline earth oxides increased the total basic site concentration in the order of Mg>Ca>Ba. A correlation was found between the total basic site concentration and initial dehydrogenation rate. On Commutativity of Rings With Derivations

Let R be a ring and d : R → R a derivation of R. In the present paper we investigate commutativity of R satisfying any one of the properties (i)d([x,y]) = [x,y], (ii)d(x o y) = xoy, (iii)d(x) o d(y) = 0, or (iv)d(x) o d(y) = x o y, for all x, y in some apropriate subset of R.     

Exact solutions of solid-liquid phase-change heat transfer when subjected to convective boundary conditions

A closed-form expression is presented to find the location of solid-liquid interface motion in convection-dominated solidification and melting problems. In this regard, the solutions are expressed in terms of the generalized representations of error functions,E (u, v) andF (u, v), which are useful to heat-conduction problems with convective-type boundary conditions. It is demonstrated that for constant surface temperature, the interface solution reduces to the classical Neumann solution.     

Circularly polarized light-induced electrogyration in the Au nanoparticles on the ITO

We have found that the gold nanoparticles on the ITO substrates might be considered promising materials for circularly polarized light-induced linear electrogyration (EG). The maximal achieved value of the EG susceptibility described by third-order axial tensor caused by probe circularly polarized light at a wavelength of 1060 nm was equal to about 13 deg/mm at pulsed electric field strength 30.0 V/cm with a duration of about 1 ms. We have revealed that the maximal EG coefficient is achieved for the samples possessing maximal resistivity. The investigated composites possess long-lived EG grating which decreases by not more than 12% after 120 min of laser treatment. Applying a non-circular pump light leads to the diminishing of the observed EG.     

Iodine‐Catalyzed Friedlander Quinoline Synthesis under Solvent‐Free Conditions

Polyfunctional quinolines were synthesized using Friedlander method catalyzed by molecular iodine in high yields at 60 °C under solvent‐free conditions.     

Identification and Separation of Some Anions on Plain and Mixed Adsorbent Layers Using Water as Eluent

The analytical potential of water as an eluent in thin layer chromatographic separation of various anions on plain adsorbent layers (silica gel "G" alumina, and cellulose) as well as on beds containing different combinations of silica gel, alumina, or cellulose has been investigated. In addition to some important separation of anions, microgram separation of IO⁻₄ from milligram quantities of IO⁻₃, Bro⁻₃, MoO²⁻₄, and Fe (CN)³⁻₆ has been realized. The effect on pH of the sample in the separation of IO⁻₄ from accompanying ions has also been studied. The limits of detection and dilution limits of anions on alumina thin layers have been determined. NO⁻₂ in artificial seawater has been detected. The effect of CaCl₂, MgCl₂, and NaHCO₃ on some ternary separations of analytical importance has been examined.     

MC-CDMA with exponential power profile in Nakagami fading channel

A refined study of multi-carrier code division multiple access transmission over a Nakagami fading channel is proposed. The channel power is modeled with an exponential power profile rather than the uniform profile prevalent in other papers. An expression for the bit error rate (BER) is then derived. Numerical results show that MC-CDMA performances depend on the power dispersion of interferers around the desired user power.     

A 3.3-V single power supply 16-Mb nonvolatile virtual DRAM using aNAND flash memory technology

A 3.3-V 16-Mb nonvolatile memory having operation virtually identical to DRAM with package pin compatibility has been developed. Read and write operations are fully DRAM compatible except for a longer RAS precharge time after write. Fast random access time of 63 ns with the NAND flash memory cell is achieved by using a hierarchical row decoder scheme and a unique folded bit-line architecture which also allows bit-by-bit program verify and inhibit operation. Fast page mode with a column address access time of 21 ns is achieved by sensing and latching 4 k cells simultaneously. To allow byte alterability, nonvolatile restore operation with self-contained erase is developed. Self-contained erase is word-line based, and increased cell disturb due to the word-line based erase is relaxed by adding a boosted bit-line scheme to a conventional self-boosting technique. The device is fabricated in a 0.5-μm triple-well, p-substrate CMOS process using two-metal and three-poly interconnect layers. A resulting die size is 86.6 mm², and the effective cell size including the overhead of string select transistors is 2.0 μm²     

Steric effects on nascent vibrational distributions of the HCN product produced in CN radical reactions with ethane, propane and chloroform

Time-resolved IR emission spectroscopy (TRIES) has been used to study infrared emission in the 3400–3100 cm⁻¹ region from HCN molecules produced when CN radicals abstract a hydrogen atom from ethane, propane, and chloroform. From these observations the nascent vibrational distributions of the HCN produced were derived. The nascent vibrational population distributions of the product HCN in all of the reactions are non-statistical and inverted in both the pure CH stretch (00p) and CH stretch—bend (0np) series.
