AbstractA new series of water-compatible proline catalysts (4–6) derived from calixarene bearing a hydrophobic nature have been synthesised. It was found that the compound 4 was a highly efficient organocatalyst for aldol reactions occurred in the water. Under optimised reaction conditions, high yields (up to 82%), good enantioselectivities (ee up to 81%) and high diastereoselectivities (dr up to 91:9) were obtained. 相似文献

There is a growing interest in modern healthcare to develop systems able to fight antibiotic resistant bacteria. Antimicrobial cationic biodegradable polymers able to mimic antimicrobial peptides have shown to be effective against both Gram‐positive and Gram‐negative bacteria. In these systems, the hydrophilic–hydrophobic ratio and the cationic charge density play a pivotal role in defining the killing efficiency. Nevertheless, many of these antimicrobial polymers show relatively low selectivity as defined by the relative toxicity to mammalian cells or hemolysis relative to pathogens. In this study, a series of polycarbonates containing pendant quaternary ammoniums are used to understand the role of different counter‐anions including chloride, citrate, malonate, benzoate, acetate, lactate and trifluoroacetate, and the antibiotic penicillin on antimicrobial efficacy and selectivity. Interestingly, it is found that in spite of the strong antimicrobial activity of trifluoroacetate and benzoate anions, they prove to be much less hemolytic than chloride anion. It is believed that the proper selection of the anion could enhance the potential of antimicrobial polymers to fight against clinically relevant pathogenic infections, while concurrently mitigating harmful side effects.

5,11,17,23-Tetrakis(1,1-dimethylethyl)-25,26-dihydroxy-27,28-crown-4-calix[4]arene in the cone conformation was synthesized. This p-tert-butylcalix[4]arene-1,2-crown-4 compound was then anchored with Merrifield chloromethylated resin beads. The modified polymeric resin was characterized by 1H NMR, FT-IR and elemental analysis and used successfully for the separation and preconcentration of Cu(II), Cd(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II) prior to their determination by FAAS. Effective extraction conditions were optimized in both batch and column methods. The resin exhibits good separating ability with maximum between pH 6.0-7.0 for Cu(II), pH 6.0 for Cd(II), pH 5.0 for Co(II), pH 4.0-4.5 for Ni(II), and pH 4.5 for Zn(II). The elution studies were carried out with 0.5 mol L−1 HCl for Cu(II), Co(II) and Co(II), 1.0 mol L−1 HCl for Cd(II) and Zn(II). The sorption capacity, preconcentration factor and distribution coefficient of each metal ion were determined. The detection limits were 1.10, 1.25, 1.83, 1.68 and 2.01 μg L−1 for Cu(II), Cd(II), Co(II), Ni(II) and Zn(II). The influence of several ions on the resin performance was also investigated. The validity of the proposed method was checked for these metal ions in NIST standard reference material 2709 (San Joaquin Soil) and 2711 (Montana Soil). 相似文献

Pyrazolidine‐3,5‐diones and their derivatives exhibit a wide range of biological activities. Seeking to explore the effect of combining a hydrocarbyl ring substituent, as present in sulfinpyrazone (used to treat gout), with a chlorinated aryl ring, as present in muzolimine (a diuretic), we explored the reaction between 1‐phenylpyrazolidine‐3,5‐dione and 4‐chlorobenzaldehyde under mildly basic conditions in the expectation of producing the simple condensation product 4‐(4‐chlorobenzylidene)‐1‐phenylpyrazolidine‐3,5‐dione. However, the reaction product proved to be meso‐(E,E)‐1,1′‐[1,2‐bis(4‐chlorophenyl)ethane‐1,2‐diyl]bis(phenyldiazene), C26H20Cl2N4, and a tentative mechanism is proposed. Crystallization from ethanol produces two concomitant polymorphs, i.e. a triclinic form, (I), in the space group P, and a monoclinic form, (II), in the space group C2/c. In both polymorphs, the molecules lie across centres of inversion, but in (II), the molecules are subject to whole‐molecule disorder equivalent to configurational disorder with occupancies of 0.6021 (19) and 0.3979 (19). There are no hydrogen bonds in the crystal structure of polymorph (I), but the molecules of polymorph (II) are linked by C—H...π(arene) hydrogen bonds into complex chains, which are further linked into sheets by C—H...N interactions. 相似文献

The complexes of chromium(III), scandium(III) and yttrium(III) formed by 1-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid (1,2-HNA: H2L) and 3-hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid (3,2-HNA: H2L) were investigated by potentiometry and spectroscopy at 25+/-0.1 degrees C and at an ionic strength of 0.1 M KNO3 in 50% ethanol-water (v/v) medium. The stoichiometries of these three M(III) complexes formed with these hydroxy-naphthoic acids and with hydroxo ion were defined and their formation constants were determined and compared. Thus, the removing capacities of these ligands could be examined by calculating the equilibrium concentration of Cr(III) that exists in the discharge water of various industries since Cr(III) ions are the main pollutants present during waste water treatment in our city, Bursa. 相似文献

Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a new treatment modality that uses porphyrin derivatives and visible light, especially for the treatment of cancer. However, PDT with certain photosensitisers can cause prolonged skin photosensitization. This is particularly true for Photofrin II (Photofrin)-mediated PDT where patients are required to avoid direct exposure to sunlight for a period of 4-6 weeks. This is the only long-term adverse reaction to the drug. Recent studies have shown that topical copper treatment avoids this type of inflammatory reaction. In this study, we have tested the efficiency of the liposomal formulation of copper palmitate on porphyrin-photosensitized rats. Initially, adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were rendered photosensitive either by administration of Photofrin or aminolevulinic acid (ALA), a precursor of protoporphyrin IX (PpIX). Prior to this, their dorsal skin was shaved and treated topically with a cream consisting of either empty or copper palmitate-encapsulated liposomal formulation. After being kept in a dimmed light environment, the rats were exposed to visible light, and inflammatory responses were inspected. Histological studies revealed that no inflammatory cells were present at the skin sites treated with liposomal cream containing copper palmitate in the Photofrin-sensitized group while no reduction in the number of inflammatory cells was observed at the skin samples treated with the empty liposomes. In conclusion, the data demonstrate the significant protective effect of topically-applied liposome-encapsulated copper palmitate against both Photofrin and ALA-induced PpIX photosensitivity. 相似文献

A series of 22 novel 1,2-disubstituted-1H-benzimidazole-N-alkylated-5- carboxamidine derivatives were synthesized and evaluated for in vitro antibacterial activity against S. aureus and methicillin resistant S. aureus (MRSA), E. coli, E. faecalis and for antifungal activity against C. albicans. Urease was covalently immobilized on acrylamide-grafted poly (ethylene terephthalate) fibers after glutaraldehyde activation.
Ureasecontaining fibers showed a very high operational stability and reusability, with about 85% of the initial activity after
90 d. The thermostability of the bound urease was positively influenced, and a slight change in optimum temperature was observed
after immobilization, when compared with the free enzyme. The pH optimum of both types of urease was found to be the same,
but immobilized urease showed an increased stability in a broader range of pH. The kinetic studies exhibited a slightly higherK
m
value for the bound enzyme, with a value of 4.50 mmol dm-3, when compared with the free enzyme (2.82 mmol dm-3), which demonstrated that the immobilization procedure did not cause an unfavorable conformation for the substrate-product
formation and a hindered diffusion. The graft yield was also found effective on maximum activity of immobilized urease. Twenty-five
percent of the acrylamide-grafted fibers exhibited the highest enzymatic activity together with the highest water uptake.
Higher graft yields were not suitable for the immobilization of the enzyme molecules as a result of crosslinks formed between

Development of a microfabricated cytometry platform for characterization and sorting of individual leukocytes 总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5
Organizing leukocytes into high-density arrays makes these cells amenable to rapid optical characterization and subsequent sorting, pointing to clinical and basic science applications. The present paper describes development of a cytometry platform for creating high-density leukocyte arrays and demonstrates retrieval of single cells from the array. Poly(ethylene glycol)(PEG) photolithography was employed to fabricate arrays of microwells composed of PEG hydrogel walls and glass attachment pads 20 microm x 20 microm and 15 microm x 15 microm in size. PEG micropatterned glass surfaces were further modified with cell-adhesive ligands, poly-L-lysine, anti-CD5 and anti-CD19 antibodies, in order to engineer specific cell-surface interactions within the individual wells. Localization of the fluorescently-labeled proteins in the glass attachment pads of PEG microwells was visualized by fluorescence microscopy. Glass slides micropatterned with PEG and cell-adhesive ligands were exposed to T-lymphocytes for 30 min. These anchorage-independent cells became selectively captured in the ligand-modified microwells forming high-density cell arrays. Cell occupancy in the microwells was found to be antibody-dependent, reaching 94.6 +/- 2.3% for microwells decorated with T-cell specific anti-CD5 antibodies. In this comparative study, the effect of carbon black (CB) on the UV aging characteristics of poly(ethylene‐co‐vinyl acetate) (EVA) was investigated. EVA, containing 13% vinyl acetate (VA), and poly(ethylene‐co‐vinyl acetate)/carbon black mixture (EVA/CB), containing 13% VA and 1% CB, were aged by means of UV light with a wavelength in the vicinity of 259 nm, in air, up to 400 hr. Sol‐gel analyses were made to determine the percentage gelation of both virgin and aged samples. FT‐IR measurements were performed to follow the chemical changes which took place in the samples during aging. Dynamic and isothermal thermogravimetry studies were performed for determination of the thermal stabilities of virgin and aged samples. Sol‐gel analysis results showed that EVA itself has a tendency to form a gel under UV irradiation. EVA/CB, however, becomes a gel to a smaller extent, comparatively, under the same conditions. As a result of FT‐IR measurements, some oxidation products such as ketone, lactone and vinyl species were observed through UV ageing of EVA and EVA/CB. Thermal analysis experiments exhibited that the thermal stabilities of EVA and EVA/CB decreased, to a similar extent through UV aging. Copyright © 2004 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. 相似文献
