An absolute displacement-sensing system based on channeled spectrum processing capable of simultaneous interrogation of fiber Bragg gratings and fiber-optic interferometric sensors is presented in which the role of the optical spectrometer is performed by a scanning Fabry-Perot filter. Traditional notions of second-harmonic generation rely on phase matching or quasi phase matching to achieve good conversion efficiencies. We present an entirely new concept for efficient second-harmonic generation that is based on the interference of counterpropagating waves in multilayer structures. Recent studies have shown that in certain cases, cardiac and respiratory rate fluctuations in BOLD-weighted MRI time courses may be an artifact unique to rapid sampled acquisitions and may not be present in longer repetition-time acquisitions. The implication of this is that, in these cases, cardiac and respiratory rate fluctuations are not aliased into data that undersample these effects and do not affect the resulting time course measurements. In this study, we show that these cases are specific to regions of large cerebrospinal fluid content and are not generally true for gray matter regions of the brain. We demonstrate that in many brain regions of interest, these fluctuations are directly observed as BOLD fluctuations and thus will affect measurements that undersample these effects. 相似文献

To extend the metal cluster size used in interfacing between bulk metals and molecules in ab initio studies of molecular electronics and chemisorption, a reduced size atomic orbital basis set for the gold atom has been generated. Based on the SKBJ relativistic effective core potential set, the three component 5d Gaussian orbital basis set is completely contracted. Comparisons between the full and reduced basis set in Au atom clusters and cluster complexes for geometry, bond distances, dipole moments, atomic charges, spin, bond dissociation energies, lowest energy harmonic frequencies, electron affinities, ionization energies, and density of states distributions show the contracted set to be a viable replacement for the full basis set. This result is obtained using both the B3LYP and BPW91 exchange-correlation potentials in density functional theory. 相似文献

The oxidation of alkylsilane monolayers on Au has been studied by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, reflection-absorption infrared spectroscopy, contact-angle measurements, and scanning tunneling microscopy. Exposure of the monolayers at 298 K to pure O(2) or H(2)O (>5 x 10(-5) Torr and >150 000 L) does not cause oxidation. Ambient atmosphere only causes oxidation if direct sight lines are maintained to the sample. Ozone exposure results in rapid monolayer oxidation. Oxidation initially occurs only at the Si atom, resulting in formation of a cross-linked siloxane monolayer that retains alkyl surface termination. Prolonged ozone exposures result in the oxidation and subsequent loss of the alkyl chain. 相似文献

Specific and nonspecific interactions between antibody-modified probes and substrate-immobilized proteins were monitored by atomic force microscopy (AFM). Probes were modified with anti-ovalbumin IgG antibodies immobilized in either an oriented or a random manner. The oriented immobilization of whole IgG was accomplished through the use of Protein A, and random immobilization was carried out with glutaraldehyde. Nonspecific interactions may lead to false detection of antibody-antigen binding events even when the antigen binding sites are properly positioned by an oriented immobilization strategy. Thus, nonionic and zwitterionic surfactants, including Tween 20, Tween 80, Triton X-100, and CHAPS, were evaluated to determine if nonspecific binding events could be reduced without compromising the desired specific antibody-antigen binding. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay and surface plasmon resonance assays were also employed to study antibody-antigen binding as a function of immobilization strategy and surfactant concentration. The data from these studies indicate that Protein A can be used to immobilize whole IgG onto AFM probes for force measurement experiments and that a surfactant is useful for improving the selectivity for such measurements. 相似文献

The frictional dynamics of fluorine-terminated alkanethiol (S(CH2)8CF3) self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) on gold are studied using molecular dynamics simulations. The simulations treat the interactions between two SAMs on flat surfaces. The structure and frictional behavior are investigated as a function of applied pressure (200 MPa to 1 GPa) for a shear velocity of 2 m/s and compared to methyl-terminated alkanethiol SAMs. The maximum adhesive pressure between the SAMs is 220 MPa for both end groups. In agreement with experiments on the molecular scale, the shear stress and the coefficient of friction for CF3-terminated alkanethiols are larger than for CH3-terminated alkanethiols. The main source for the difference is primarily the tighter packing of the fluorinated terminal group resulting in a higher degree of order. The molecular scale coefficient of friction is correlated with the degree of order among all the systems. 相似文献

We use Brownian dynamics (BD), molecular dynamics, and dissipative particle dynamics to study the phase behavior of diblock copolymer melts and to determine if hydrodynamics is required in the formation of phases with greater than one-dimensional periodicity. We present a phase diagram for diblock copolymers predicted by BD and provide a relationship between the inverse dimensionless temperature epsilon/k(B)T and the Flory-Huggins chi parameter, allowing for a quantitative comparison between methods and to mean field predictions. Our results concerning phase behavior are in good qualitative agreement with the theoretical predictions of Matsen and Bates [M. W. Matsen and F. S. Bates, Macromolecules 29, 1091 (1996)]; however, fluctuation effects arising from finite polymer lengths substantially alter the phase boundaries. Our results pertaining to the hydrodynamics are in contrast to earlier work by Groot et al. [R. D. Groot, T. J. Madden, and D. J. Tildesley, J. Chem. Phys. 110, 9739 (1999); D. Frenkel and B. Smit, Understanding Molecular Simulation, 2nd ed. (Academic, New York, 2001)]. In particular, we obtain the hexagonal ordered cylinder phase with BD, a method that does not include hydrodynamics. 相似文献
