Manganites of the LA1−x
Ca

MnO3 family show a variety of new and poorly understood electronic, magnetic and structural effects. Here we outline a new approach
recently proposed by us, where we argue that due to strong Jahn-Teller (JT) coupling with phonons the twofold degeneratee
g
states at the Mn sites dynamically reorganize themselves into localised, JT polaronsl with exponentially small inter-site hopping, and band-like, nonpolaronic statesb, leading to anew 2-band model for manganites which includes strong Coulomb and Hund’s couplings. We also discuss some results from a dynamical mean-field theory treatment
of the model which explains quantitatively a wide variety of experimental results, including insulator-metal transitions and
CMR, in terms of the influence of physical conditions on the relative energies and occupation of thel andb states. We argue that this microscopic coexistence of the two types of electronic states, and their relative occupation and
spatial correlation is the key to manganite physics.

The co-ordination of plutonyl ions with 2-thenoyltrifluoroacetone (HTTA) has been investigated by distribution studies of239Pu between benzene and aqueous perchlorate medium at 25°C in order to understand the nature of the extracted species and their
stability. The formation constants of the first and second complexes have been evaluated by Rydberg's graphical method as

We present the first characterization of a micromachined silicon rectangular waveguide at 400GHz. The silicon waveguide has an average loss of 0.086dB/mm for a range of 350-460GHz. Structural and superconducting properties of the system Lu1?x Ca x Ba2 Cu3O7?δ, both in bulk as well as thin film form, have been investigated. Presence of large Ca-ions at the Lu-sites is responsible for phase stability (in 1–2–3 phase) in bulk. In argon annealed tetragonal samples (δ:1) superconductivity is reinstated as in these samples, presence of Ca-ions lead to the generation of holes in the Cu?O planes. In oxygen annealed bulk samples and thin films, there is a large depression ofT c due to divalent Ca-ions present in concentrationx<0.2. Our data indicate that this depression ofT c is likely due to overdoping effect. 相似文献

Multiecho phase-contrast steady-state free precession (PC-SSFP) is a recently introduced sequence for flow quantification. In this multiecho approach, a phase reference and a velocity-encoded readout were acquired at different echo times after a single excitation. In this study, the sequence is validated in vitro for stationary flow. Subsequently, the sequence was evaluated on cardiac output measurements in vivo for through-plane flow in comparison to regular single gradient echo velocity quantification [phase-contrast spoiled gradient echo (PC-GE)]. In vitro results agreed with regular flow meters (RMS 0.1 cm/s). Cardiac output measurements with multiecho PC-SSFP on 10 healthy subjects gave on average the same results as the standard PC-GE. However, the limits of repeatability of PC-SSFP were significantly larger than those of PC-GE (2 l/min and 0.5 l/min, respectively, P=.001). The multiecho approach introduced some specific problems in vivo. The difference in echo times made the velocity maps sensitive for water-fat shifts and B(0)-drifts, which in turn made velocity offset correction problematic. Also, the addition of a single bipolar gradient cancelled the flow compensated nature of the SSFP sequence. In combination with the prolonged TR, this resulted in flow artifacts caused by high and pulsatile through-plane flow, affecting repeatability. Given the significantly lower repeatability of PC-SSFP, cardiac output in turn is less reliable, thus impairing the use of multiecho PC-SSFP. 相似文献

Abstract An improved r.f. heavy ion source, which can operate with gases, liquids and solids is described. The operating temperature of the ion source may reach 1000°C. It can therefore, generate ion beams of a considerable number of elements. including metallic ions. At present, ion beams of S+, Al+, As+. Zn+, Mg+, Cd+, Ag+, Sm+, Te+, Se+, Sn+, In+, Hg+, etc. have been extracted. The extracted total beam current ranges from several hundred microamperes to the order of milliampere. The useful fraction of ion in the total beam is 70–90%. Life span of the source ranges from 40 hours to more than 100 hours. The emittance of the source is 3 × 10?6 cm rad. Structure and operating characteristics of this ion source are discussed. 相似文献
