用皮秒Ｎｄ：ＹＡＧ激光器的倍频光（５３２ｎｍ）对具有离域π－共轭电子云结构的偶氮苯类样品材料作简并四波混频补给，测得三阶非线性电极化率ｘ＾（３）和它们的时间响应分别为１０＾－９ｅｓｕ和２０ｐｓ，并对影响ｘ＾（３）的瞬时光栅作用和ｘ＾（３）的响应时间人了讨论。     

Large-scale magnetic structures of coronal mass ejections

Based on the studies on the source regions of a group of coronal mass ejections, we have identified two types of large-scale magnetic structures, and suggested that they are intrinsic components of solar magnetism, their destabilization, expansion, and eruption into the interplanetary space are the basic physical processes which lead to the coronal mass ejections. These two types of large-scale structures are giant magnetic loops connecting the two active belts on the opposite hemispheres of the Sun, and the giant filaments (filament channels) and their related magnetic structures. The latter often appear as two parallel rows of sunspots and plage fields, which align side by side in the full disk daily and synoptic magnetograms. The magnetic neutral lines of these large-scale structures are usually longer than 50 heliographic degrees. We name this type of structure “super A configuration”. Sometimes, they are shown as very long filaments and related large-scale magnetic fields. As these magnetic structures are of very large scale, they extend to a great altitude into the corona, they are not easily recognized in magnetic field observations which are usually aimed at solar flare studies. To identify these large-scale structures becomes a key to understanding and predicting coronal mass ejections.

Effects of Au coating on thermal stresses in stainless-to-Kovar packages

A finite-element method (FEM) analysis has been carried out on the thermally-induced stresses generated when stainless steel covers are laser-welded to Au-coated Kovar TO headers during the packaging of semiconductor lasers. In particular, the effect of varying the Au coating thickness of these stresses was investigated. Maximum stresses were found to be reduced as the Au thickness increased. This effect is attributed to the reduction in thermal gradient in the weld region provided by the increased thermal conduction of thicker Au. The result suggests that adequate Au coating thickness is important for ensuring good reliability of opto-electronic packages having laser-welded caps. This revised version was published online in June 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.

An experimentally verified hybrid Cassie-Mayr electric arc modelfor power electronics simulations

This paper presents an electric arc model that can approximately represent both the static and dynamic characteristics of an arc load controlled by a power electronic circuit. The proposed model was developed from the combination and modifications of the classical Cassie and Mayr equations. The model equations have been expressed in a form suitable for incorporation into circuit simulators employing the nodal analysis method of equation solving. The model has been test-implemented in the Saber circuit simulator. Simulated and experimental results appear to be in good agreement
