We report a wavelength-switchable fiber ring laser that includes a Bragg grating-based acoustooptic superlattice modulator. Wavelength switching of the laser emission is achieved by controlling the peak reflectivity of the different reflection bands that appear on both sides of the Bragg wavelength when a longitudinal acoustic wave propagates along the grating. 相似文献

It has been demonstrated recently that it is possible to guide broadband Terahertz pulses utilising a novel coaxial waveguide. This technique is hindered by the difficulty in exciting the radially polarised fundamental mode of the waveguide. To optimise mode matching, a novel radially symmetric photoconductive Terahertz antenna is proposed. Using finite element method simulations and analytical calculations, it is shown that this antenna can generate the desired radial polarisation. 相似文献

In this paper, we present an efficient cascading procedure for analyzing frequency selective surface (FSS) systems consisting of multiple FSS screens of unequal periodicity embedded in multiple dielectric layers. In this procedure, we first find a global period for the FSS system by studying the composite in its entirety. Next, we compute the scattering matrix [S] of each of the FSS subsystems for the global Floquet harmonics by applying a relationship we establish that maps the [S] matrix of the subsystem for the individual Floquet harmonics to that for the global harmonics. This mapping-cum-filling process substantially reduces the effort needed to compute the [S] matrix of a subsystem. Finally, we compute the [S] of the entire system by applying a modified cascading formulation, in which one matrix inversion step is eliminated, resulting in a reduction in the total computing resource requirement as well as time. Two numerical examples are given to illustrate the efficiency and effectiveness of the technique. 相似文献

Who should control the Internet? A dozen years after the Internet became a mass medium, this issue has continued to grow in urgency, becoming white hot in fall 2005. At the September 2005 preparatory meeting for the UN World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS), a coalition of countries criticized the United States' unilateral control of the Internet's domain name system (DNS) and proposed the establishment of a multinational Council to supervise it. This proposal emerged from the Final Report of the UN Working Group on Internet Governance. Researchers from the Internet Governance Project, a university-based consortium for policy analysis, have concluded that the United States should internationalize governance of the Internet, but in a way that avoids intrusive, centralized control. 相似文献

One of the main obstacles to the efficient solution of scientific problems is the problem of tuning software, both to the available architecture and to the user problem at hand. We describe approaches for obtaining tuned high-performance kernels and for automatically choosing suitable algorithms. Specifically, we describe the generation of dense and sparse Basic Linear Algebra Subprograms (BLAS) kernels, and the selection of linear solver algorithms. In a direct-conversion transmitter system, the nonideal transfer characteristics of practical analog subsystems can have significant adverse effects on the performance of the transmitter system. While a significant body of research exists on correcting static errors (including gain imbalance, phase errors, and DC offsets) in the analog subsystems, relatively little attention has been paid to the impact of nonideal frequency-dependent characteristics in the analog reconstruction filters that are employed in direct-conversion structures. This paper presents a new computationally efficient and numerically robust method for automatic digital compensation for nonideal frequency-dependent characteristics in the signal reconstruction filters of a quadrature (IQ) modulator structure. In the problem of estimating the angles of arrival to a uniform linear array, we present an efficient method to compute Maximum Likelihood (ML) estimations, based on the Modified Variable Projection (MVP) algorithm. In contrast to methods like Iterative Quadratical Maximum Likelihood (IQML) or the Iterative Method of Direction Estimation (IMODE), it is not based on a polynomial parameterization but on directly exploiting the Vandermonde structure through analytical tools like the Fast Fourier Transform (FFT), the geometric series summation formula, and Horner's synthetic division. The computational burden of the proposed method is significantly smaller than the burden of IMODE and of the Relaxation (RELAX) algorithm. Besides, it is shown that the computation of the ML estimation can be divided in a preliminary step in which a few FFTs are computed and an iterative step with a complexity that is independent of the array size. 相似文献
