A series of previously unreported aldehydes has been prepared by the formylation reaction of dipyrrolo[1,2-a;2':,1'-c]pyrazines and their 5,6-dihydro analogs by DMF and phosphorus oxychloride.

Influence of preparation conditions on thermal properties of lanthanide benzenepolycarboxylates

Properties of lanthanide 1,2,4-benzenetricarboxylates and lanthanide 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylates obtained by a classical synthesis method and under hydrothermal conditions were compared. Solid 1,2,4-benzenetricarboxylates and 1,2,4,5-benzenetetracarboxylates of cerium, neodymium and erbium were prepared by a classical precipitation method. The same lanthanide compounds were obtained also from hydrothermal reaction. All obtained products were examined by elemental analysis. General formulae of complexes were: Ln(1,2,4-btc)·xH₂O and Ln₄(1,2,4,5-btec)₃·yH₂O. The thermal analysis shows that hydrothermal conditions cause the coordination of less number of water molecules to complex molecule. Because lanthanide ions exhibit the most often the coordination number equal 8 or 9 one can conclude that the coordination ability of carboxylic groups under hydrothermal conditions is different from that under mild ones. Probably, in hydrothermal conditions the carboxylic groups of 1,2,4-benzenetricarboxylate ions are able to form more coordination bonds with lanthanide ions than under normal pressure.     

New Stephaoxocane Alkaloids from Stephania longa

Three new stephaoxocane‐type alkaloids, stephalonganines A–C ( 1 – 3 ), together with the known eletefine ( 4 ), were isolated from the whole plant of Stephania longa. Their structures were fully characterized spectroscopically, and the absolute configurations of the new alkaloids were assigned by comparison of their circular‐dichroism (CD) data with those of 1,2‐dihydrostephaoxocanine ( 5 ), in combination with 2D‐NMR experiments.     

Prostanoids: XC. Extension to the Synthesis of Enprostil of the <Emphasis Type="Italic">o</Emphasis>-Nitrophenylsulfonylhydrazine Method for Transformation of 2-Propynyl Alcohols into Allenes

A potential precursor of enprostil, (±)-9-acetoxy-11,15-di-O-(tert-butyldimethylsilyl)-2-decarboxy-6-hydroxy-16-phenoxy-2-triphenylmethyloxymethyl-4,4,5,5-tetradehydro-17,18,19,20-tetranorprostaglandin F1α, was synthesized. Chiral metallacyclophanes: self-assembly, characterization, and application in asymmetric catalysis

[structure: see text] A family of chiral metallacyclophanes has been readily assembled based on robust Pt-acetylide linkage and characterized by a variety of spectroscopic techniques and X-ray crystallography. The steric congestion around the chiral dihydroxy groups in rigid metallacyclophane 4 prevents their reactions with Ti(O(i)()Pr)(4) to form active catalysts for enantioselective diethylzinc additions to aromatic aldehydes. In contrast, chiral dihydroxy groups in more flexible unclosed metallacyclophane 5 are effective ligands for enantioselective catalytic diethylzinc additions to aromatic aldehydes.     

On the structure and activity of a Pt/C catalyst subjected to repeated deactivation and regeneration cycles

Electron microscopic studies reveal that repeated air/hydrogen regeneration cycles cause irreversible structural changes of a Pt/C catalyst involving sintering and migration of the platinum over the support. This is reflected by a serious decrease of the catalytic activity. With hydrogen treatment only, these effects are less significant.

Quantification of analytes in overlapping peaks from capillary electrophoresis using multivariate curve resolution-alternating least squares methods

Application of multivariate curve resolution with alternating least squares (ALS) methods to second-order data from capillary electrophoresis diode array detector (CE-DAD) is shown. Second-order data are easily obtained by setting individual data matrix of CE run one in top of the other. Initial qualitative solutions obtained by evolving factor analysis can be further optimized by simultaneous analysis of multiple electrophoresis run data with ALS regression. Quantification is achieved by the comparison of the analyte peak areas with that of pure standards. During the ALS regression procedure, the following constraints were applied: (i) both concentrations and unit pure spectra of the resolved components must be positive; (ii) elution profiles have an unimodal shape; (iii) correspondence exists between common species in the different data matrices; (iv) the pure spectrum of each species is the same in all runs where it is present. The above methods were applied for the determination of dinitrotoluene (DNT) isomeric compounds in overlapping peaks from CE.
