We demonstrate a new approach to coherent anti-Stokes Raman scattering (CARS) microscopy that significantly increases the detection sensitivity. CARS signals are generated by collinearly overlapped, tightly focused, and raster scanned pump and Stokes laser beams, whose difference frequency is rapidly modulated. The resulting amplitude modulation of the CARS signal is detected through a lock-in amplifier. This scheme efficiently suppresses the nonresonant background and allows for the detection of far fewer vibrational oscillators than possible through existing CARS microscopy methods.  相似文献

A nonlinear dielectric effect, and the calculated correlation factors R p and R s are reported for binary solutions of tert-nitrobutane and tert-butylnitrile in hexane and benzene. The results are discussed in terms of the three main mechanism: association of polar molecules, fluctuations in concentration and density, and intermolecular processes due to a strong electric field. We have recorded the vibrational absorption spectrum of 1,1,1,2-tetrafluoroethane (HFC-134a) in the fundamental and first five CH-stretching overtone regions with the use of Fourier transform infrared, dispersive long-path, intracavity laser photoacoustic, and cavity ringdown spectroscopies. We compare our measured total oscillator strengths in each region with intensities calculated using an anharmonic oscillator local mode model. We calculate intensities with 1D, 2D, and 3D Hamiltonians, including one or two CH stretches and two CH stretches with the HCH bending mode, respectively. The dipole moment function is calculated ab initio with self-consistent-field Hartree-Fock and density functional theories combined with double- and triple-zeta-quality basis sets. We find that the basis set choice affects the total intensity more than the choice of the Hamiltonian. We achieve agreement between the calculated and measured total intensities of approximately a factor of 2 or better for the fundamental and first five overtones.  相似文献

Mirror-image asymmetric molecules, i.e., chiral isomers or enantiomers, are classically considered as chemically identical. Recent studies, however, have indicated that parity violation by the nuclear weak force induces a tiny energy difference between chiral isomers. Upon combination with a massive amplification process, expansion of this difference to a detectable macroscopic level may be achieved. Yet, experimental tests of this possibility, where one enantiomer is compared to the other in solution, are hampered by the possible presence of undetectable impurities. In this study we have overcome this problem by comparing structural and dynamic features of synthetic D- and L-polyglutamic acid and polylysine molecules each of 24 identical residues. In these water-soluble polypeptides helix formation is an intramolecular autocatalytic process amplified by each turn, which is actually unaffected by low level of putative impurities in the solvent. The helix and random coil configurations and their transition were determined in this study by circular dichroism (CD) and isothermal titration calorimetry (ITC) in water and deuterium oxide. Distinct differences in structure and transition energies between the enantiomeric polypeptides were detected by both CD and ITC when dissolved in water. Intriguingly, these differences were by and large abolished in deuterium oxide. Our findings suggest that deviation from physical invariance between the D- and L-polyamino acids is induced in part by different hydration in water which is eliminated in deuterium oxide. Based on the recent findings by Tikhonov and Volkov (V. I. Tikhonov and A. A. Volkov, Science 2002, 296, 2363) we suggest that ortho-H(2)O, which constitutes 75% of bulk H(2)O, has a preferential affinity to L-enantiomers. Differential hydration of enantiomers may have played a role in the selection of L-amino acids by early forms of life.  相似文献

Reaction of SnCl(2).dioxane with 2 equiv of Li(THF)(3)Si(SiMe(3))(3) in hexane afforded the cyclotetrastannane [(Me(3)Si)(3)SiSnCl](4) in reasonable yield. From pentane, the product crystallized as a red-orange disolvate in the P&onemacr; space group (triclinic) with a = 14.735(2) ?, b = 14.976(2) ?, c = 24.066(3) ?, alpha = 76.94 degrees, beta = 76.19 degrees, gamma = 62.11 degrees, V = 4517.5 ?(3), and Z = 2. The Sn(4) ring consisted of a slightly distorted, nonplanar (fold angle = 18.9 degrees ) rectangle with Sn-Sn distances of 2.8054(6), 2.8111(6), 2.9122(6), and 2.9146(6) ?. The pentane molecules were disordered. Selected mono- and dihalogermanes were treated with 1 equiv of Li(THF)(3)Si(SiMe(3))(3) or Li(THF)(2.5)Ge(SiMe(3))(3), affording (Me(3)Si)(3)EGe(CF(3))(3) (E = Si, Ge) and (Me(3)Si)(3)GeGeR(3) (R = Cl, CH(3), C(6)H(5)). Besides the monosubstitution product, the reaction of GeCl(4) with 1 equiv of Li(THF)(2.5)Ge(SiMe(3))(3) also gave a small amount of the linear tetragermane (Me(3)Si)(3)GeGeCl(2)GeCl(2)Ge(SiMe(3))(3). Good yields of the analogous phenyl derivative, (Me(3)Si)(3)GeGePh(2)GePh(2)Ge(SiMe(3))(3), were obtained by treating Ph(2)GeCl(2) with 2 equiv of the lithium-germyl reagent.  相似文献

Semiclassical theory predicts that the weak localization correction to the conductance of a ballistic chaotic cavity is suppressed if the Ehrenfest time exceeds the dwell time in the cavity [I. L. Aleiner and A. I. Larkin, Phys. Rev. B 54, 14423 (1996)]. We report numerical simulations of weak localization in the open quantum kicked rotator that confirm this prediction. Our results disagree with the "effective random matrix theory" of transport through ballistic chaotic cavities.  相似文献

We show that self-consistent simulations of asymmetric coupled double-quantum wells (ACQW) can be used efficiently to increase significantly the optical performances of optically-pumped mid-infrared intersubband semiconductor lasers by increasing the electron concentration in the quantum well. Our calculations, which account for the screening effect and degenerate statistics, show optical gain in excess of 100/cm for pumping intensity of 39 kW/cm/sup 2/ can be achieved. Owing to hot electron effects, the stimulated gain at 77 K is insensitive to the phonon resonance for pumping intensities larger than 400 kW/cm/sup 2/.  相似文献
