Deterministic Polymorphic Engineering of MoTe2 for Photonic and Optoelectronic Applications

Developing selective and coherent polymorphic crystals at the nanoscale offers a novel strategy for designing integrated architectures for photonic and optoelectronic applications such as metasurfaces, optical gratings, photodetectors, and image sensors. Here, a direct optical writing approach is demonstrated to deterministically create polymorphic 2D materials by locally inducing metallic 1T′-MoTe₂ on the semiconducting 2H-MoTe₂ host layer. In the polymorphic-engineered MoTe₂, 2H- and 1T′- crystalline phases exhibit strong optical contrast from near-infrared to telecom-band ranges (1–1.5 µm), due to the change in the band structure and increase in surface roughness. Sevenfold enhancement of third harmonic generation intensity is realized with conversion efficiency (susceptibility) of ≈1.7 × 10⁻⁷ (1.1 × 10⁻¹⁹ m² V⁻²) and ≈1.7 × 10⁻⁸ (0.3 × 10⁻¹⁹ m² V⁻²) for 1T′ and 2H-MoTe₂, respectively at telecom-band ultrafast pump laser. Lastly, based on polymorphic engineering on MoTe₂, a Schottky photodiode with a high photoresponsivity of 90 AW⁻¹ is demonstrated. This study proposes facile polymorphic engineered structures that will greatly benefit realizing integrated photonics and optoelectronic circuits.     

Subtleties in data analysis related to the size of critical region

We comment on the analysis of the critical behavior of a layered driven diffusive system recently done by Achahbar and Marro. We discuss why we believe their method of taking the thermodynamic limit and determining the order-parameter exponent leads to unreliable estimates.     

A Construction of Partial Difference Sets in {\mathbb{Z}}_{p^{2 \times } } {\mathbb{Z}}_{p^{2 \times \cdot \cdot \cdot \times } } {\mathbb{Z}}_{p^2 }

On generalized quadratic equations in three prime variables

Leta ₁,a ₂ anda ₃ be any nonzero integers which are relatively prime and not all negative. In this paper, as a parallel problem of [11] for each integerk≥2, we consider the setE(X) of positive integersb≤X which satisfy the condition of congruent solubility and that the equation $$a_1 p_1^2 + a_2 p_2^2 + a_3 p_3^k = b$$ is insoluble in primesp _j. We obtain CardE(X)≤X ^1-ε. Our result extends the wellknown classical results (by Legendre and Gauss and byDavenport andHeilbronn [2]) on the equation $$x_1^2 + x_2^2 + x_3^k = b$$ in integral variablesx _j with the above bound for CardE(X) better than that in [2].     

Exact solution (within a double-zeta basis set) of the schrodinger electronic equation for water

Using recently developed theoretical techniques it has been possible to achieve an exact variational solution of the Schrödinger equation within a modest basis set or one-eleltron functions. The full configuration interaction for this system included a total of 256473 ¹A₁ spin-and space-adapted configurations. Comparison with many-body perturbation theory proves to be quite interesting.
