Selective adhesion of endothelial cells to artificial membranes with a synthetic RGD-lipopeptide

A constrained cyclic ArgGly-Asp-D-Phe-Lys, abbreviated as cyclo(-RGDfK-), lipopeptide has been synthesized and incorporated into artificial membranes such as giant vesicles with DOPC and solid-supported lipid bilayers. The selective adhesion and spreading of endothelial cells of the human umbilical cord on solids functionalized by membranes with this RGD-lipopeptide have been observed. Furthermore, we have demonstrated strong selective adhesion of giant vesicles to endothelial cells through local adhesion domains by combined application of hydrodynamic flow field and reflection interference contrast microscopy (RICM). The adhesion can be inhibited by competition with a water-soluble RGD peptide. We suggest that this strategy could improve the efficiency of liposomes targeting used as vectors or as drug carriers to cells.

Determination of the Oxydation State in Vanadium Complexes using V—K-Absorption Spectra The compounds resulting from the reaction of oxovanadium(IV) sulfate with 8-quinolinols in air were characterized by magnetic moments and V—K-absorption spectra. 8-quinolinol and its Mannich derivates (“CMAB-oxine”, “CMAP-oxine”) form vanadium(V) complexes. The oxovanadium(IV) compound of 7-methyl-8-quinolinol initially formed is not very stable in solution and tends to oxydation. Only the oxovanadium(IV) complex of 2-methyl-8-quinolinol has a good stability corresponding to that of β-diketone compounds.     

Pair correlation functions of liquid CS2. A comparison between statistical-mechanical theories and computer simulation

The atom pair correlation functions of liquid CS₂ were calculated by RISM theory and the normalized expansion coefficients of the generalized pair correlation function evaluated by a cluster expansion. We used Lennard-Jones interactions between the atoms constituting the molecules. All correlation functions are compared to a computer simulation.     

The phenolic oxidation of a β-methylchalcone

The phenolic oxidation of 2',4-dihydroxy-4'-methoxy-β-methylchalcone using alkaline potassium ferricyanide gives an aurone rather than an isoflavone. This result is discussed in the context of current theories regarding the biosynthesis of flavonoid and isoflavonoid compounds.

The Auger electron spectrum of water vapour

The Auger electron spectrum of water vapour has been recorded and analyzed. For the analysis, an approximate formula for calculating the intensities of the Auger electron lines is derived. It is shown, that the calculated intensities along with theoretical energies of the Auger transitions account well for the observed spectrum. In particular, new assignments in terms of transitions to triplet final states are suggested.

The thermodynamic quantities K_{n?1 n}, ΔG⁰_{n?1, n} and ΔS⁰_n?1, n for the gas phase equilibrium reactions RNH⁺₃(RNH₂)_n?1 + RNH₂ = RNH⁺₃(RNH₂)_n, where n ? 3 and R indicates an alkyl group (CH₃, C₂H₅, n-C₃H₇ and iso-C₃H₇), have been determined.

Rapid column separations by means of a superficially sulphonated exchange resin

The use of superficially sulphonated ion-exchange resins has the essential advantages that the separations can be achieved very fast and with dilute eluents. Some examples of column separations (Na/Cs, Cs/Sr, Cs/Y, Ba/Cs, and Sr/Y) confirm this result.

     

The mass spectra of aluminum isopropoxide

The mass spectra of aluminum isopropoxide show that polymers, [Al(OC₃H₇)₃]_x where x = 1 to 7, can be present in the vapor and are, therefore, probably present in the bulk sample. The polymeric composition of the vapor depends on the previous history of the sample. Exact mass measurements on many of the ions along with data on a number of metastable peaks support the proposed fragmentation mechanisms. Loss of 102 mass units between intense peaks in the mass range above 500 a.m.u. leads to the suggestion that the higher polymers may be used as high mass marking substances.
