Optical rectification is demonstrated in (110)-cut ZnGeP(2) (ZGP) providing broadband terahertz (THz) generation. The source is compared to both GaP and GaAs over a wavelength range of 1150 nm to 1600 nm and peak-intensity range of 0.5 GW/cm(2) to 40 GW/cm(2). ZGP peak-to-peak field amplitude is larger than in the other materials due to either lower nonlinear absorption or larger second-order nonlinearity. This material is well suited for broadband THz generation across a wide range of infrared excitation wavelengths. 相似文献

The macro-buckling equations for a sandwich column are developed. A layer-wise Timoshenko beam displacement approximation is assumed. The constitutive relationships and equilibrium equations for the core and face sheets are derived using a consistent hyperelastic neo-Hookean formulation. The derivations in this paper are consistent with that of Haringx’s and Reissner’s proposal for beam actions. The buckling formulation includes the axial deformation prior to buckling and the transverse shear deformation of the core and face sheets. The buckling equations derived agree with the equation of [Allen, H.G., 1969. Analysis and Design of Structural Sandwich Panels, Pergamon, Oxford] for thick faces but are also applicable to any ratio of face sheet to core thickness and material properties. The formulation is compared to experimental results for sandwich columns and shows good comparison except for very short columns. The formulation is also compared to the buckling experimental results for short rubber rods and also compared well. The formulation does not predict a shear buckling mode. 相似文献

Pressure-transducer and accelerometer data accumulated during several water tests of a liquid-rocketengine pump were subjected to spectral analysis. The analyzer used allows signal amplitude to be displayed as a continuous function of frequency for each instant of time. Various filter bandwidths, integration times, frequency spans and display formats have been used to present the data for visual inspection. Increasing triolein content of oil-in-water microemulsions in the pure C(12)E(4)/water/n-hexadecane/triolein system while maintaining a fixed surfactant concentration and volume fraction of drops raises the temperature of the solubilisation boundary, where excess oil separates, but has only a slight effect on the (higher) cloud point temperature, where excess water appears. Thus, the temperature range of the single-phase microemulsion shrinks and ultimately disappears. When such microemulsions are in equilibrium with excess oil, the hexadecane/triolein ratio is greater in the microemulsion, probably because the larger triolein molecules are unable to penetrate the hydrocarbon chain region of the surfactant films of the microemulsion droplets. Indeed, monolayer studies and calculations based on microemulsion and excess oil compositions indicate that the films have minimal triolein and similar ratios of hexadecane to surfactant. Triolein drops brought into contact with hexadecane-in-water microemulsions first swell as they incorporate hexadecane, then shrink owing to solubilisation. Interfacial tension decreases during this process until it becomes almost constant near 0.01 mN m(-1), suggesting that the drops in the final stages of solubilisation have high hexadecane contents. A microemulsion containing 10 wt% C(12)E(4) and 15 wt% hexadecane was able to remove over 50% of triolein from polyester fabric at 25 degrees C, more than twice that removed by an oil-free solution with the same surfactant concentration in similar experiments. 相似文献

We present a new optics-based transport architecture that emulates fast switching in the network core via emerging fast tunable lasers at the network edge, and bypasses the need for fast optical switching and buffering. The new architecture is capable of handling both asynchronous and synchronous traffic, for dealing with various bandwidth granularities and responding to dynamic changes in end-to-end traffic demands. The architecture also reduces the amount of layering in the transport network by eliminating packet and TDM switching, keeps the network core light (lightweight and transparent), and pushes intelligence to the network edge. We discuss technical challenges that arise in the new architecture and describe possible approaches to address them. 相似文献

The generation of terahertz (THz) transients in photoconductive emitters has been studied by varying the spatial extent and density of the optically excited photocarriers in asymmetrically excited, biased low-temperature-grown GaAs antenna structures. We find a pronounced dependence of the THz pulse intensity and broadband (>6.0 THz) spectral distribution on the pump excitation density and simulate this with a three-dimensional carrier dynamics model. We attribute the observed variation in THz emission to changes in the strength of the screening field. 相似文献

This paper reports the free radical dispersion copolymerisation of methyl and ethyl methacrylate in supercritical carbon dioxide. The polymerisation uses a poly(dimethyl siloxane) monomethacrylate macromonomer as the stabiliser. A range of different reaction times was investigated in order to probe the amount of each monomer incorporated in the copolymer. Analysis by 1H NMR spectroscopy reveals that the monomers behave as in conventional solvents to form a random copolymer. The effect of varying the initiator concentration (initiator 2,2′‐azobisisobutyronitrile, AIBN) on the composition and molecular weights of the resultant copolymers has also been studied. 相似文献

A model of the formation, detachment, and rise of a bubble from a submerged orifice is derived, based upon a study using a modified form of the Rayleigh–Plesset equation. Similar models have previously been proposed by Oguz and Prosperetti (1), Avramidis and Jiang (2), and also Chakraborty and Tuteja (3). We seek to re-examine these models and implement a number of additional physical features. In particular, we demonstrate the relative importance of the surface dilatational viscosity of surfactant added to the liquid in the growth and detachment of the bubble from the orifice. It is found that “large” surface dilatational viscosities significantly increase the time to detachment of the bubble. In addition, through a drastic reduction in the rate of radial expansion of the bubble in the early stages of development (given an initial condition on the radial velocity for “fast” bubble growth), the rise velocity of the bubble centroid at this time is greater with a large surface dilatational viscosity than when this property is neglected. 相似文献
