Observation of hydrogen induced intermediate borides in PrFeB based alloys by Mössbauer effect spectroscopy

In the present work, a quantitative analysis of the phase compositions by Mössbauer effect spectroscopy of solid and conventional hydrogen disproportionated Pr_13.7Fe_80.3B_6.0 and Pr_13.7Fe_63.5Co_16.7Zr_0.1B_6.0 alloys was carried out. Significant amounts of intermediate borides t-Fe₃B and Pr(Fe, Co)₁₂B₆ were detected after solid hydrogen disproportionation treatment in Pr_13.7Fe_80.3B_6.0 and Pr_13.7Fe_63.5Co_16.7Zr_0.1B_6.0 alloys, respectively. After conventional hydrogenation–disproportionation–desorption–recombination treatment these phases were not detected and in no case residual Pr₂Fe₁₄B-phase was found. It was observed that the amount of intermediate borides after disproportionation can be correlated with the degree of texture after recombination at various temperatures.     

Refractive index profiling-state of the art

Problems associated with different calibration techniques and some instrumental effects that can determine instrumental accuracy are discussed. It is shown how transmission effects can be observed and used to generate a correction curve for refracted near-field instruments. High-quality fiber slices needed for axial interferometry were used to obtain refractive index differences on suitable fibers to ±1% with the measurements traceable to national standards. Interferometry was used to calibrate a multiple-step fiber which is available in 10-m lengths with a certificate of calibration. The limitations of the technique are discussed, and preliminary results of a study on the effects of residual stress and stress relief on measurements are given. Comparisons are made between measurements made by axial interferometry and refracted near field on a range of fibers. It is shown that commercial profilers can produce reliable measurements of refractive index difference, absolute refractive index, profile shape, and numerical aperture that agree well with measurements by other techniques

Spatial regularities in the effect of locking of photon echo signals and associative optical memory

The efficiency of suppression of the generation of a photon echo response depending on the mutual spatial orientation of gradients of external nonumform electric fields acting on a resonant medium is studied. The possibility of creating an associative memory where the mutual orientation of the gradients of external electric fields is an associative key is discussed.     

New representation of Dirac-Yang-Mills equations

With the help of the apparatus of tensors with values in the Atiyah-Kähler algebra (the apparatus of lambda tensors), a new representation for the relativistic equation of field theory is proposed. The circle of questions under consideration is standard for investigations concerning the theory of the Dirac equation (in this paper, we treat no problems dealing with second quantization).     

Numerical analysis of propagation and impedance matching in 2Dphotonic crystal waveguides with finite length

A novel way of approaching wave propagation in two-dimensional (2-D) photonic crystal guides with finite length is presented. It is shown that the main propagation features can be captured by borrowing simple concepts of propagation in transmission lines and combining them with other concepts taken from the theory of periodic structures
