The authors consider the problem of detecting visual evoked potentials (VEP's). A matched subspace filter is applied to the detection of the VEP and is demonstrated to perform better than a number of other evoked potential detectors. Unlike single-harmonic detectors, the matched subspace filter (MSF) detector is suitable for detecting multiharmonic VEP's. As developed by Wallace and Dadda, a method for high-speed, parallel multiplication is to generate a matrix of partial products
and then reduce the partial products to two numbers whose sum is equal to the final product. The resulting two numbers are
then summed using a fast carry-propagate adder. This paper presents Reduced Area multipliers, which employ a modified reduction
scheme that results in fewer components and less interconnect overhead than either Wallace or Dadda multipliers. This reduction
scheme is especially useful for pipelined multipliers, because it minimizes the number of latches required in the reduction
of the partial products. The reduction scheme can be applied to either unsigned (sign-magnitude) or two's complement numbers.
Equations are given for determining the number of components and a method is presented for estimating the interconnect overhead
for Wallace, Dadda, and Reduced Area multipliers. Area estimates indicate that for non-pipelined multipliers, the reduction
in area achieved with Reduced Area multipliers ranges from 3.7 to 6.6 percent relative to Dadda multipliers, and from 3.8
to 8.4 percent relative to Wallace multipliers. For fully pipelined multipliers, the reduction in area ranges from 15.1 to

The SAMPEX (Solar, Anomalous, and Magnetospheric Particle Explorer) LEICA instrument is designed to measure ~0.5-5-MeV/nucleon solar and magnetospheric ions over the range from He-Ni. The instrument is a time-of-flight (TOF) mass spectrometer, which measures particle TOF over an ~0.5-m path and the residual energy deposited in an array of Si solid state detectors. The pyrolysis of tertiarybutylphosphine (TBP) has been studied in the low pressure conditions used for chemical beam epitaxy
(CBE). The pyrolysis studies were carried out in low pressure reactors of two different configurations, one of which is a
cracker cell designed for use in a CBE system. The reaction products were studied using a quadrupole mass spectrometer. The
products observed are accounted for by a reaction mechanism involving homolysis of the parent TBP molecule to produce PH2 and C4H9 radicals. These undergo subsequent reactions to form the stable products C4H8, PH3 and H2, with smaller amounts of P and P2 being produced. The production of the sub-hydride PH2 using this cracker cell design indicates that the use of partially cracked TBP may be a promising technique for reducing

The feasibility of using a thick ground plane with an aperture coupled microstrip patch antenna while maintaining reasonable antenna performance is demonstrated using moment method and reciprocity analyses in the spectral domain. Presents a method to solve the inverse problem of electrocardiography using the Laplacian of the body surface potentials. The method presented is studied first using trade-off curves from a concentric spheres model representing a heart-torso system. Then a more conventional study is undertaken where a limited number of current dipoles are placed within the inner sphere and noise is added to the resulting potentials and Laplacians on the surface of the outer sphere. The results indicate that measurements of the outer surface Laplacian can more accurately reconstruct epicardial potentials than measurements of the outer surface potentials. The reconstructions are more accurate in that extrema are placed very close to their correct positions and multiple extrema and high potential gradients are recovered. Channel crosstalk effects in wavelength-multiplexed subcarrier-multiplexing video transmission systems due to cross-phase modulation are investigated. The crosstalk level depends on the spacing of optical channels.
