A simple and efficient procedure for the synthesis of chiral beta-seleno-amines derivatives from a one-pot indium(I) iodide-mediated aziridine ring opening with diorganoyl diselenides has been developed. Many informatics tools have emerged to process the voluminous and complex data generated by functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI). The interpretation of fMRI exams is largely determined by these tools. However, their performance is hard to evaluate because there is no independent means of calibration. A novel fMRI calibration system called SmartPhantom has been developed to simulate functional blood oxygen level dependent (BOLD) imaging. SmartPhantom contains a quadrature radio frequency coil, comprising two perpendicular planar loops that can be externally activated or deactivated. The system is able to produce reasonably uniform signal enhancements in a calibration sample surrounded by the two loops during an MRI scan. The enhancement is controlled well in both magnitude and predefined timing and produces BOLD-like signals. Characteristics of SmartPhantom are discussed in detail, followed by a comparison of fMRI informatics tools. Two fMRI data sets are acquired with the SmartPhantom. One with high signal-to-noise ratio provides the calibration. Another with lower SNR is input into three software packages (BrainVoyager, FSL and Statistical Parametric Mapping 2) for data preprocessing and statistical analysis. Results from the three packages are compared in both sensitivity of detecting the activation and correlation between the predicted activation and calibration.  相似文献

The valence state of iron in minerals has useful applications in the geosciences for estimating redox conditions during mineral formation or re-equilibration. STEM/EELS techniques offer the advantage over other methods of being able to measure Fe valence with very high spatial resolution across mineral grains and grain boundaries. We have modified an EELS method for point analyses of iron valence ratios (Fe(3+)/SigmaFe) making it possible to generate line scans and maps of Fe valence. We demonstrate this method with measurements at an interface between iron-bearing oxides in a finely intergrown sample of magnetite and ilmenite. The STEM/EELS method is based on a calibrated relationship between Fe(3+)/SigmaFe and the relative intensities of the Fe L(3) and L(2) white lines in core energy-loss spectra for oxide and silicate minerals. Our method overcomes problems of energy drift in spectrum images by aligning energy-loss edges at a fixed energy position prior to background removal. An automated routine for batch processing of core loss spectra, including additional background removal and calculation of Fe L(3)/L(2) intensity ratios, allows for rapid Fe(3+)/SigmaFe determinations of multiple point analyses or spectrum images and the preparation of Fe valence maps, with an analytical error of +/-0.05 to +/-0.09 in the Fe(3+)/SigmaFe measurements.  相似文献

Ab initio calculations based on the density functional theory within the full-potential linearized augmented plane wave method were carried out to investigate the structural stabilities of the different crystallographic phases, the pressure-induced phase transition and the electronic properties of the platinum carbide (PtC) compound. The zinc-blende (ZB), rock-salt (RS), cesium chloride (CsCl), wurtzite (WZ), nickel arsenide (NiAs), lead monoxide (PbO) and the tungsten carbide (WC) phases were considered. The exchange and correlation potential was treated by the generalized-gradient approximation using the Perde–Burke–Ernzerhof parameterization. The thermodynamic properties such as variation of the bulk modulus, lattice constant, heat capacity, thermal expansion and Debye temperature versus pressures and temperatures are investigated. The band structure results show the metallic character of the PtC compound in all the considered phases and the present study also shows that the PtC compound crystallizes in the ZB phase at ambient conditions. The theoretical transition pressures from the ZB to RS for the NiAs, PbO and CsCl transformations were also computed.  相似文献

Summary: Three different cellulosic substrata, like microcrystalline cellulose, cotton cellulose and spruce dissolving pulp, were chosen for biodegradation. The kinetics of the enzymatic hydrolysis of these celluloses by Trichoderma reesei, has been investigated. The experiments proved the fact that both the morphological structure and the crystalline one are crucial to the process and the ratio of the reactions. In addition, in order to obtain the most accessible cellulose substratum it was studied the biodegradation of cellulose allomorphs of spruce dissolving pulp. The insoluble cellulose fraction remaining after enzymatic hydrolysis was examined by X-ray diffraction method and it was established the degree of crystallinity and the average crystallite size. The enzymatic degradation is also proved by the decrease in the degree of polymerization of hydrolyzed samples.  相似文献

The paper presents the synthesis, characterization, and in vitro cytotoxicity tests of Fe3O4 magnetic nanoclusters coated with ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid disodium salt (EDTA). Electron microscopy analysis (SEM) evidences that magnetite nanoparticles are closely packed into the clusters stabilized with EDTA with well-defined near spherical shapes and sizes in the range 100–200 nm. From XRD measurements, we determined the mean size of the crystallites inside the magnetic cluster about 36 nm. The saturation magnetization determined for the magnetic clusters stabilized with EDTA has high value, about 81.7 emu/g at 300 K. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy has been used to determine both the elemental and chemical structure of the magnetic cluster surface. In vitro studies have shown that the magnetic clusters at low doses did not induce toxicity on human umbilical vein endothelial cells or lesions of the cell membrane. In contrast, at high doses, the magnetic clusters increased the lipid peroxidation and reduced the leakage of a cytoplasmic enzyme, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH), in parallel with increasing the antioxidant defense.

A study of the effects of single and combined protease hydrolysis on myofibrillar versus collagenous proteins of poultry by-products has been conducted. The aim was to contribute with knowledge for increased value creation of all constituents of these complex by-products. A rational approach was implemented for selecting proteases exhibiting the most different activity towards the major protein-rich constituents of mechanically deboned chicken residue (MDCR). An initial activity screening of 18 proteases on chicken meat, turkey tendons and MDCR was conducted. Based on weight yield, size exclusion chromatography (SEC) and SDS-PAGE, stem Bromelain and Endocut-02 were selected. Studies on hydrolysis of four different poultry by-products at 40 °C, evaluated by protein yield, SEC, and SDS-PAGE, indicate that the proteases’ selectivity difference can be utilized in tailor-making hydrolysates, enriched in either meat- and collagen-derived peptides or gelatin. Three modes of stem Bromelain and Endocut-02 combinations during hydrolysis of MDCR were performed and compared with single protease hydrolysis. All modes of the protease combinations resulted in a similar approximately 15% increase in product yield, with products exhibiting similar SEC and SDS-PAGE profiles. This shows that irrespective of the modes of combination, the use of more than one enzyme in hydrolysis of collagen-rich material can provide means to increase the total protein yield and ultimately contribute to increased value creation of poultry by-products.  相似文献

In recent years, more attention has been paid to natural sources of antioxidants. Flavonoids are natural substances synthesized in several parts of plants that exhibit a high antioxidant capacity. They are a large family, presenting several classes based on their basic structure. Flavonoids have the ability to control the accumulation of reactive oxygen species (ROS) via scavenger ROS when they are formed. Therefore, these antioxidant compounds have an important role in plant stress tolerance and a high relevance in human health, mainly due to their anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties. In addition, flavonoids have several applications in the food industry as preservatives, pigments, and antioxidants, as well as in other industries such as cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. However, flavonoids application for industrial purposes implies extraction processes with high purity and quality. Several methodologies have been developed aimed at increasing flavonoid extraction yield and being environmentally friendly. This review presents the most abundant natural flavonoids, their structure and chemical characteristics, extraction methods, and biological activity.  相似文献

Novel ceramic-polymer hybrid varnishes were designed to protect the wood surface of musical instruments. These hybrid coatings consist of chemically functionalized silica nanoparticles and synthetic solvent-based acrylic- and alkyd-polyurethanes. The nanoparticles were added to increase the abrasion resistance. An alkoxide was used to increase the number and reactivity of OH’s groups on the wood surface improving the adhesion with the coating through a chemical link between them. The properties of the synthetic coatings were compared with those of a traditional varnish (based on alcohol and natural resins) to obtain a better performance. Two types of woods were used: maple and spruce. The samples were characterized by UV-Vis, mechanical and abrasion tests, water’s absorption, acoustic properties, chemical resistance and SEM.  相似文献

Low-dimensional structures have been shown to be promising candidates for enhancing the thermoelectric properties of semiconductors, paving the way for integration of thermoelectric generators into silicon microtechnology. With this aim, dense arrays of well-oriented and size-controlled silicon nanowires (Si NWs) obtained by the chemical vapor deposition (CVD)-vapor–liquid–solid (VLS) mechanism have been implemented into microfabricated structures to develop planar unileg thermoelectric microgenerators (μTEGs). Different low-thermal-mass suspended structures have been designed and microfabricated on silicon-on-insulator (SOI) substrates to operate as microthermoelements using p-type Si NW arrays as the thermoelectric material. To obtain nanowire arrays with effective lengths larger than normally attained by the VLS technique, structures composed of multiple ordered arrays consecutively bridged by transversal microspacers have been fabricated. The successive linkage of multiple Si NW arrays enabled the development of larger temperature differences while preserving good electrical contact. This gives rise to small internal thermoelement resistances, enhancing the performance of the devices as energy harvesters.  相似文献
