We demonstrate that optical trapping can be driven by delocalized surface plasmon modes resonantly excited within a standing wave trap. Dynamical modifications are shown to be determined by the near-field symmetry of the plasmonic modes with negligible thermal effect. With low trapping powers and polarization control, remarkable stiffness enhancements are recorded, the larger the smaller the particle. The results can be simply modeled accounting for a coherent interaction between the plasmon field and the Gaussian standing wave of the trap. 相似文献

We generate self-collimating surface plasmon beams in a doubly periodic plasmonic grating. The self-collimation effect is understood from the local anisotropy of the isofrequency surface of the grating in the vicinity of the bandgap. The properties of the beams are analyzed by leakage radiation microscopy and show to an unprecedented level significantly reduced diffraction as compared with plasmon beams propagating on a flat metal film. 相似文献

Block copolymers of polymethylphenylsilane (PMPS) and polystyrene (PS) have been successfully prepared by the condensation of α,ω-dichloro-polymethylphenylsilane with polystyryl-lithium. These new materials have been characterized by UV spectroscopy, 29Si-NMR, and size exclusion chromatography. Photopolymerization of methacrylated dental resins at room temperature leads to the appearance of long‐life free radicals because of system vitrification. Optical transmission spectroscopy on metal films with slit-groove pairs is conducted. Spectra of the light transmitted through the slit exhibit Fabry-Perot-type interference fringes due to surface plasmons propagating between the slit and the groove. The effect of various benzenesulfonamide (BSA) plasticizers on the amorphous phase of semicrystalline polydodecamide (PA‐12) has been investigated. MonoBSAs appear as efficient glass‐transition temperature (Tg) depressors because of their miscibility with the host polyamide (PA), low glass transition, and small molecule size. PA‐12's Tg shifts from 50 to about 0 °C at 20 mol % of the most efficient molecules. Comparatively, the more bulky bisBSAs appear to induce less important absolute Tg decreases (30 K at 20 mol %), although these appear as more important when considering the polymer Tg to plasticizer Tg difference. This unexpected observation could be ascribed to both the amide‐sulfonamide interactions and the sterically generated disorder within the polyamide because of the plasticizer molecule's size. Phase‐separation behavior of BSA plasticizers within the host PA has also been investigated. Crystalline phenyl‐SO2NH2, for instance, dephased beyond 20 mol % in PA‐12, forming distinct 1–2 micrometer wide crystalline domains as a result of its high propensity to crystallize upon cooling from the melt. By contrast, slow crystallizing N,N‐dimethylBSA, which lacks any specific interaction for PA‐12, remained nevertheless dispersed at a molecular level (metastable state, no phase separation) when vitrification of the host PA‐12 amorphous phase occurred on cooling. © 2002 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A single-mode modulator was realized from an AP-MOCVD grown structure. The multiple-quantum-well electroabsorptive material is made of shallow InGaAsP wells separated by InGaAsP barriers. It exhibits at 1.54 mu m (TE) a 17 dB extinction ratio for a 3 V drive voltage, a 2.7 dB on-state loss and a small-signal bandwidth over 20 GHz with 1-2 mW of coupled optical power.<> 相似文献
