The structure of malabricol

A single crystal X-ray analysis has confirmed the constitution and established the stereochemistry of the triterpene, malabaricol.     

Products active on arthropod-IV Insect juvenile hormone mimics—4: hydrindane analogues of cecropia juvenile hormone

Synthesis of cis-hydrindane analogues (2,3) of Cecropia juvenile hormone-I from common intermediate cis-hydrindane-2, 5-dione is presented. The analogues are only moderately active against Dysdercus cingulatus.     

New organosols of nickel sulfides,palladium sulfides,manganese sulfide,and mixed metal sulfides and their use in preparation of semiconducting polymer-metal sulfide composites

Organosols of NiS, PdS, and MnS in N,N-dimethylformamide were prepared by reaction of the metal acetate with H₂S. Organosols of mixed-metal sulfides (Zn _x Cd_1–x S, Hg _x Cd_1–x S, Hg _x Cu_1–x S, Cd _x Mn_1–x S, Hg _x Mn_1–x S, Hg _x Cd_1–x S, and Mn _x Zn_1–x S) were similarly obtained by reaction of mixtures of the metal salts with H₂S. The organosol of Zn_0.5Cd_0.5S contained particle with two particle size distributions centered at 6.5 nm and 29 nm, as revealed by Ar laser-scattering analysis. The metal sulfides are recovered by addition of Et₂O to the organosols. Zn _x Cd_1–x S thus obtained shows magnetic susceptibility in the range 0.5×10^–6–2.3×10^–6 emug^–1 depending on thex value. Addition of polymers to the organosols affords semiconducting films of metal sulfide-polymer composites.     

Meroterpenoids—III : Psoralea corylifolia linn.—3. Synthesis of (±)-bakuchiol methyl ether

A synthesis of (±)-bakuchiol methyl ether, involving Claisen rearrangement of geranyl vinyl ether as the key step, is described. Further thermal reorganisation of the intermediate 3-vinyl-citronellal is discussed.     

The stereochemistry of guggulsterol-1

The steroechemistry of guggulsterol-1, a component of the exudate of $\text{Commiphora}$$\text{mukul}$, is shown to be 20(R), 22(R)($\text{3}$).

Isolation and structure elucidation of a C₁₁ mono-carboxylic acid, apparently a nor-sesquiterpene, and, a sesquiterpene diosphenol from the essential oil of Cedrus deodara Loud. are described.     

Reductive nitrosylation of tetraoxometallates—XVII. Molybdate-hydroxylamine-cyanide reaction, and synthesis and characterization of K2[Mo(NO)(CN)5] and (NMe4)2[Mo(NO)(CN)4]

A reaction condition is established which determines the nature of the products in the molybdate-hydroxylamine-cyanide reaction. With hydroxylamine always used in excess, it is the hydroxyl ion concentration of the reaction mixture which plays a vital role in determining whether K₄[Mo(NO)(CN)₅] or K₂[Mo(NO)(CN)₅] is obtained exclusively. The latter product is hereby reported for the first time. Its powder diffractogram being typical of a cubic system, a gross structural characterization has been made possible. The former under aqueous, aerobic conditions yields a new product, (NMe₄)₂[Mo(NO)(CN)₄].     

Studies in sesquiterpenes—LVI: Isolongifolene (part 7): mechanism of rearrangement of longifolene to isolongifolene—II

The question of possible neutral intermediates which may lie on the reaction pathway in going from longifolene to isolongifolene has been investigated using BF₃·Et₂O-AcOD and D₃PO₄-dioxane, as reagents. It has been found that longicyclene is not an obligatory intermediate. The mode of cleavage of cyclopropane ring in longicyclene has been investigated.     

Preparation and analytical properties of a chelating resin containing bicine groups

A polystyrene divinyl benzene based resin containing bicine groups has been prepared and its analytical properties investigated. The pH dependence of sorption of metal on the resin has been determined for Cu(II), Fe(II), Ni(II), Co(II), Zn(II), Hg(II) and Pb(II). The important characteristics of the resin are fast equilibrium, high selectivity and small volume change between its hydrogen and metal forms. These enable it to be applied to the rapid concentration of trace amounts of these metal ions. It shows promise for the separation of lead from other metal ions.
