A graph is (m, k)-colorable if its vertices can be colored with m colors in such a way that each vertex is adjacent to at most k vertices of the same color as itself. In a recent paper Cowen, Cowen, and Woodall proved that, for each compact surface S, there exists an integer k = k(S) such that every graph in S can be (4, k)-colored. They also conjectured that the 4 could be replaced by 3. In this note we prove their conjecture.  相似文献

A new matrix additive, poly (N,N-dimethylacrylamide)-functionalized gold nanoparticle (GNP-PDMA), was prepared by “grafting-to” approach, and then incorporated into quasi-interpenetrating network (quasi-IPN) composed of linear polyacrylamide (LPA, 3.3 MDa) and PDMA to form novel polymer/metal composite sieving matrix (quasi-IPN/GNP-PDMA) for DNA sequencing by capillary electrophoresis. Without complete optimization, quasi-IPN/GNP-PDMA yielded a readlength of 801 bases at 98% accuracy in about 64 min by using the ABI 310 Genetic Analyzer at 50 °C and 150 V/cm. Compared with previous quasi-IPN/GNPs, quasi-IPN/GNP-PDMA can further improve DNA sequencing performances. This is because the presence of GNP-PDMA can improve the compatibility of GNPs with the whole sequencing system, enhance the entanglement degree of networks, and increase the GNP concentration in system, which consequently lead to higher restriction and stability, higher apparent molecular weight (MW), and smaller pore size of the total sieving networks. Furthermore, the composite matrix was also compared with quasi-IPN containing higher-MW LPA and commercial POP-6. The results indicate that the composite matrix is a promising one for DNA sequencing to achieve full automation due to the separation provided with high resolution, speediness, excellent reproducibility, and easy loading in the presence of GNP-PDMA.  相似文献

The paper presents a new heat transfer correlation of water at supercritical pressure after review on existing heat transfer correlations. The new correlation is optimized by genetic algorithms based on existing test data. Based on current results, we conclude that genetic algorithms are effective to search a global optimized correlation but it is important to carefully select representative and authentic test data to reach an optimized solution and special attention needs to be paid on the deteriorated heat transfer region in the design of supercritical water reactor because it can not be predicted well by any correlations reviewed. A new X‐shaped π‐conjugated monomer comprising of fluorene units and anthracene units was synthesized, and it was used to fabricate the new X‐shaped π‐conjugated polymers and investigate the properties of the new polymers. Using different molar ratios between such monomer and a fluorene monomer gave three polymers that showed higher absolute PL quantum yields than the linear polyfluorene (PF) in the solid state. After thermal annealing at 200 °C for 4 h, the linear PF showed an additional bathochromic emission at about 550 nm, whereas such red‐shifted emission was fully eliminated for the X‐shaped polymers. The electroluminescent devices based on the X‐shaped polymers with a configuration of ITO/PEDOT:PSS/polymer/LiF/Ca/Al displayed blue emission with low turn‐on voltage and high brightness. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. A series of diblock‐copolymers were synthesized through anionic polymerization of styrene and tert‐butyl methacrylate (tBuA) with different monomer ratios, and analogous block‐copolymeric derivatives (PS‐b‐PAA)s with monofunctional carboxylic acid groups were obtained by further hydrolyzation as hydrogen‐bonded (H‐bonded) proton donors. Via H‐bonded interaction, these diblock‐coplymeric donors (PS‐b‐PAA)s were incorporated with luminescent mono‐pyridyl/bis‐pyridyl acceptors to form single/double H‐bonded supramolecules, that is, H‐bonded side‐chain/cross‐linking copolymers, respectively. The supramolecular architectures formed by donor polymers and light‐emitting acceptors were influenced by the ratio of acid blocks in the diblock copolymeric donors and the type of single/double H‐bonded light‐emitting acceptors. Their thermal and luminescent properties can be adjusted by H‐bonds, and more than 100 nm of red‐shifted photoluminescence (PL) emissions were observed, which depend on the degrees of the H‐bonding interactions. Self‐assembled phenomena of amphiphilic dibolck copolymers and their H‐bonded complexes were confirmed by TEM micrographs, and supramolecular microphase separation of spherical micelle‐like morphology was demonstrated to affect the photophysical properties. Polymer light‐emitting diode (PLED) devices containing H‐bonded complexes showed electroluminescence (EL) emissions of 503–560 nm under turn‐on voltages of 7.5–9.0 V, maximum power efficiencies of 0.23–0.37 cd/A (at 100 mA/cm2), and maximum luminances of 318–519 cd/m2 (around 25 V). © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
