A characterization of projective-planar signed graphs

A signed graph has a plus or minus sign on each edge. A simple cycle is positive or negative depending on whether it contains an even or odd number of negative edges, respectively. We consider embeddings of a signed graph in the projective plane for which a simple cycle is essential if and only if it is negative. We characterize those signed graphs that have such a projective-planar embedding. Our characterization is in terms of a related signed graph formed by considering the theta subgraphs in the given graph.     

Synthesis of New 13-O-Acylavermectin Bl Aglycones

Six new 13-O-acylavermectin Bl aglycones(3-8) were synthesized from avermectin B1 aglycone and their bioactivities were evaluated against Spodoptera exigua, Spodoptera eridania, Tetranychus urticae and Aphis fabae.     

On the identification of degenerate indices in the nonlinear complementarity problem with the proximal point algorithm

In this paper we focus on the problem of identifying the index sets P(x):=i|x_i>0, N(x):={i|F_i(x)>0 and C(x):=i|x_i=F_i(x)=0} for a solution x of the monotone nonlinear complementarity problem NCP(F). The correct identification of these sets is important from both theoretical and practical points of view. Such an identification enables us to remove complementarity conditions from the NCP and locally reduce the NCP to a system which can be dealt with more easily. We present a new technique that utilizes a sequence generated by the proximal point algorithm (PPA). Using the superlinear convergence property of PPA, we show that the proposed technique can identify the correct index sets without assuming the nondegeneracy and the local uniqueness of the solution.This work was supported in part by a Grant-in-Aid for Scientific Research from the Ministry of Education, Science, Sports and Culture of Japan.Mathematics Subject Classification (2000): 90C33, 65K10     

Chemical mechanical polishing of polymer films

Strategies to reduce capacitance effects associated with shrinking integrated circuit (IC) design rules include incorporating low resistivity metals and insulators with low dielectric values, or “low-κ” materials. Using such materials in current IC fabrication schemes necessitates the development of reliable chemical mechanical polishing (CMP) processes and process consumables tailored for them. Here we present results of CMP experiments performed on FLARE™ 2.0 using a specialized zirconium oxide (ZrO₂) polishing slurry. FLARE™ 2.0 is a poly(arylene) ether from AlliedSignal, Inc. with a nominal dielectric constant of 2.8. In addition, we provide insight into possible removal mechanisms during the CMP of organic polymers by examining the performance of numerous abrasive slurries. Although specific to a limited number of polymers, the authors suggest that the information presented in this paper is relevant to the CMP performance of many polymer dielectric materials.     

Lang maps and Harris’s conjecture

We show that any variety in characteristic 0 possesses a universal dominant rational map, which we callthe Lang map, to a variety of general type. We discuss a conjecture of J. Harris regarding the relation between rational points and Lang maps. Partially supported by NSF grant DMS-9503276.     

基于空间矩的灰度边缘亚像元度量精度分析

灰度图像中边缘定位受采样密度限制，亚像元精度度量方法在需要高精度的应用中受到重视，要想知识到底需要多高的分辨率才能达到定精度指标，就有必要分析特征定位方法的最坏情况的精度，文中用分析和实验的方法给出了基于空间矩的边缘定位方法，对于边缘点，边缘直线以及直边缘区域的最坏情况定位精度分析。分析和讨论的结果不但可以用来确定已知形状位置估计的最大误差，而且还可用于对准的形状几何参数，以获得较高的精度。     

Chemical synthesis and electric properties of the conducting copolymer of aniline and o‐aminophenol

A copolymer, poly(aniline‐co‐o‐aminophenol), was prepared chemically by using ammonium peroxydisulfate as an oxidant. The monomer concentration ratio of o‐aminophenol to aniline strongly influences the copolymerization rate and properties of the copolymer. The optimum composition of a mixture for the chemical copolymerization consisted of 0.3 M aniline, 0.021 M o‐aminophenol, 0.42 M ammonium peroxydisulfate, and 2 M H₂SO₄. The result of cyclic voltammograms in a potential region of ?0.20 to 0.80 V (vs.SCE) indicates that the electrochemical activity of the copolymer prepared under the optimum condition is similar to that of polyaniline in more acid solutions. However, the copolymer still holds the good electrochemical activity until pH 11.0. Therefore, the pH dependence of the electrochemical property of the copolymer is improved, compared with poly(aniline‐co‐o‐aminophenol) prepared electrochemically, and is much better than that of polyaniline. The spectra of IR and ¹H NMR confirm that o‐aminophenol units are included in the copolymer chain, which play a key role in extending the usable pH region of the copolymer. The visible spectra of the copolymers show that a high concentration ratio of o‐aminophenol to aniline in a mixture inhibits the chain growth. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. 提出了一种求解任意截面形状脊形光波导的方法，先利用有效折射率的概念解出某种截面形状脊形光波导的等效折射率，再利用转移矩阵的理论求解出波导的模式色散方程。
