Organic functionalization of carbon nanotubes   总被引:11,自引:0,他引:11  
A very general and versatile method for functionalizing different types of carbon nanotubes is described, using the 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of azomethine ylides. Approximately one organic group per 100 carbon atoms of the nanotube is introduced, to yield remakably soluble bundles of nanotubes, as seen in transmission electron micrographs. The solubilization of the nanotubes generates a novel, interesting class of materials, which combines the properties of the nanotubes and the organic moiety, thus offering new opportunities for applications in materials science, including the preparation of nanocomposites.  相似文献

Complete basis set extrapolations of alkali halide (LiF, LiCl, NaF, NaCl) energy, dipole, and polarizability surfaces are performed with and without applied fields along the internuclear axis using state-averaged multireference configuration interaction. Comparison between properties (equilibrium separation, dissociation energy, crossing distance, diabatic coupling constant, dipole, and polarizability) derived from the extrapolated potential energy (or dipole) surfaces are made with those obtained from direct extrapolation from the basis set trends. The two extrapolation procedures are generally found to agree well for these systems. Crossing distances from this work are compared to those of previous work and values obtained from the Rittner potential. Complete basis set extrapolated crossing distances agree well with those derived from the Rittner potential for LiF, but were significantly larger for LiCl, NaF, and NaCl. The results presented here serve as an important set of benchmark data for the development of new-generation many-body force fields that are able to model charge transfer.  相似文献

The product ion formation characteristics of the four diastereomeric tetrahydroxy benzo[ghi]fluoranthene compounds formed by hydrolysis of the syn and anti diastereomers of trans-3,4-dihydroxy-5,5a-epoxy-3,4,5,5a-tetrahydrobenzo[ghi]fluoranthene are studied using matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization and post-source decay (PSD) to determine a correlation between the fragmentation characteristics of these tetraols and the structures of the diol-epoxide diastereomers from which they are hydrolyzed. The tetraols formed by the trans ring opening of the diol epoxides during hydrolysis yield product ion spectra specific for the syn and anti configurations of their precursor diol epoxides. All four diastereomeric tetraols form product ions by the losses of one and/or two water molecules in varying proportions when lithium-cationized molecule ions (m/z 301) are selected for PSD product ion analysis. The differences in the PSD spectra of these four Li+-cationized molecules are rationalized in terms of a water loss mechanism that involves the 1,2 elimination of a hydrogen atom and hydroxyl group that are cis with respect to each other on adjacent carbons.  相似文献

Examined in this paper is the role of the metal electrode influencing the structure and electronic properties of semiconducting carbon nanotubes near the interface at low bias. Specifically, we present quantum-chemical calculations of finite sections of a (8,0) semiconducting single wall nanotube contacted with gold and palladium clusters. The calculations at the density functional level of theory, which included full geometry optimizations, indicate the formation of bonds between the metal atoms of the electrode and the carbon atoms of the nanotube. The local work function of the metal electrode can be expected to exhibit significant variations as a result of this bond formation. Compared to the gold-contacted nanotubes, the palladium-contacted nanotubes have a small but interesting increase in both length and diameter. The highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) and lowest unoccupied molecular orbital (LUMO) of the gold-contacted nanotube are shown localized at the edges. In contrast, the HOMO and LUMO of the palladium-contacted nanotube are extended over the entire nanotube and the metal cluster contacted to it, providing thereby a better conduction path in the contact region of the electrode and the nanotube. The involvement of the highly directional d orbitals in the interactions involving the palladium cluster leads to an enhanced pi electron density in the nanotube. This enhanced pi electron density is synonymous with an improved electron transmission.  相似文献

Food-induced demineralization (erosion) is one of the key factors in surface structural changes of tooth enamel, with soft drinks being a significant etiological agent. The objective of this study was to measure early stages of enamel loss with high accuracy on native enamel surfaces combined with qualitative observations of changes in the surface morphology using the atomic force microscope (AFM). Native unerupted third molar surfaces were partly covered with a gold reference layer. Samples were imaged with the AFM before dissolution (at baseline) and after exposure to three different drinks (mineral water, a "toothkind" blackcurrant drink, and a lemon and lime juice drink) at five different exposure times (15 min, 30 min, 1 h, 2 h, and 3 h). The changes in the surface morphology were investigated qualitatively as well as quantitatively. This study showed that the maximum material loss occurred at the aprismatic parts of the enamel close to the perikymata. The maximum enamel loss was greatest for the lemon and lime juice drink and lowest for water. A two-way ANOVA of the transformed data, employing the natural logarithm, showed a statistically significant difference between both the drinks and the exposure time at a 95% confidence level (P=0.000). This demonstrates that the AFM is a suitable tool for measuring early stages of enamel demineralization. Copyright 2000 Academic Press.  相似文献

Fluoroscopic MR imaging at 0.064 Tesla   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The authors developed a system for ultrafast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) protocols at low field. The system design permits the acquisition of the raw data in the background while the reconstruction and display steps repeat as fast as they can in the foreground. The performance speeds depends partly on the desired use. By collecting raw data at a rate of 20 ms per echo with an echo delay of 9 ms, a complete data cycle for a 128x64 image takes 1.28 s. However, once half of that data is incorporated into the reconstruction, the image appears complete. Using this set of parameters the authors were able to get the rate of the recon/display loop to paint about two times per completed raw data cycle, showing an entirely new image at least once per second with an apparent frame rate of two per second. Interleaving of two or three orthogonal scans reduces the speed of update but provides better information. The authors discuss the system design for rapid scan/recon/display and demonstrate the image quality available at low field strength with scan times below one second.  相似文献

Three-dimensional Fourier transform (3-DFT) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) offers advantages in terms of signal-to-noise (S/N) per unit of time for the case where a large number of slices is desired. This advantage is enhanced when the relaxation time, T(1 ), is short. Because time limitations in 3-DFT imaging force the use of short time intervals, TR, between excitations of a slice, lesion contrast is often undesirable at mid-and high-field strength even when the S/N is good. At low fields, where T(1) values are short, high S/N and contrast can both be achieved with 3-DFT MR images. The conceptual and analytical aspects of low-field 3-DFT MRI are presented and demonstrated at 640 G.  相似文献
