Concurrent engineering (CE) involves a widely recognized revolution in the social organization of product development and a corresponding revolution in the underlying paradigm of design. We distinguish between two paradigms-point-based design and set-based design-and argue that effective, truly concurrent design requires shifting to a paradigm where design team members reason and communicate about sets of designs which we call “set-based concurrent engineering”. A survey of 92 Japanese and 119 US automotive parts suppliers who design their own products sought to quantify the pervasiveness and correlates of “set-based approaches”. The survey evidence indicates that set-based design communication is more prevalent among Japanese than among US parts suppliers, and is correlated with certain product development characteristics including years of experience with early involvement of suppliers in design, the degree of product-process design overlap, the degree to which subsystems are interdependent, and the use of quality function deployment (QFD)  相似文献

We report a new patterning process which takes place as a result of demixing of a binary polymer/solute mixture. An efficient, sustainable approach for ordering nanosized rings of so-called single molecule magnets (SMMs) is thus provided. It exploits the self-organization process in which SMM patterned film evolves to a spatially correlated pattern of nanosized rings. At long time, the anisotropic patterning of the film drives the ring to coalesce, into parallel lines of nanometric width.  相似文献

Metal catalyzed polymerizations are among the most important chemical reactions, accounting for the production of about 400 million tons per year of polymeric materials, 50 % of which are polyolefins. The CIRCC research units at the University of Salerno, founded by the late Professor Adolfo Zambelli, a coworker of Giulio Natta and a pioneer in the studies of stereospecific polymerization catalysts, has a consolidated expertise in this field. Although often considered a “mature” area of research, olefin polymerization catalysis continues to drive great interest of both industrial and academic scientists. On the other hand, strong political and economic pressure toward the development of “green” and possibly biodegradable alternatives to olefin-based polymers stimulated our group to direct increasing research efforts in the area of sustainable polymers. In this perspective, we focus on the most recent work from the CIRCC research units involved in homogeneous catalysis for polymerization of a variety of monomers, with the aim to address how the concepts and the expertise developed for olefin polymerization can be applied to the development of different metal-catalyzed polymerizations and copolymerizations. Of course, although the results are discussed in the frame of the most important literature contributions, a comprehensive review of such a wide and diversified topic is out of the scope of the paper. References to reviews covering the different types of metal catalyzed polymerizations are provided in each chapter.  相似文献

We investigate the role of self-assembly monolayers in modulating the response of organic field-effect transistors. Alkanethiol monolayers of chain length n are self-assembled on the source and drain electrodes of pentacene field-effect transistors. The charge carrier mobility mu exhibits large fluctuations correlated with odd-even n. For n < 8, mu increases by 1 order of magnitude owing to the decrease of the hole injection barrier and the improved molecular order at the organic-metallic interface. For n > or = 8, mu decays exponentially with an inverse decay length beta = 0.6 A(-1). Our results show that (i) charge injection across the interface occurs by through-bond tunneling of holes mediated by the alkanethiol layer; (ii) in the long-chain regime, the charge injection across the alkanethiol monolayer completely governs the transistor response; (iii) the transistor is a sensitive gauge for probing charge transport across single monolayers. The odd-even effect is ascribed to the anisotropic coupling between the alkanethiol terminal sigma bond and the HOMO level of ordered pentacene molecules.  相似文献

Block copolymer micelles find application in many fields as nanocarriers, especially in drug delivery. We report herein that specific interactions between hydrophobic guest molecules and core-forming segments can significantly improve the loading capacity of polymeric micelles. High loading capacities (>100% weight/weight of polymer (w/wp)) were systematically observed for the encapsulation of probes containing weak carboxylic acid groups by micellar nanoparticles having poly[2-(dialkylamino)ethyl methacrylate] cores (i.e., particles whose cargo space exhibits antagonist weak base functions), as demonstrated by the incorporation of indomethacin (IND), ibuprofen (IBPF), and trans-3,5-bis(trifluoromethyl)cinnamic acid (F-CIN) into either poly(ethylene oxide)-b-poly[2-(diisopropylamino)ethyl methacrylate] (PEO-b-PDPA) or poly(glycerol monomethacrylate)-b-PDPA (PG2MA-b-PDPA) micelles. The esterification of IND yielding to a nonionizable IND ethyl ester derivative (IND-Et) caused an abrupt decrease in the micellar loading capacity down to 10-15% w/wp. Similar results were also obtained when IND was combined with nonionizable block copolymers such as PEO-b-polycaprolactone (PEO-b-PCL) and PEO-b-poly(glycidyl methacrylate) (PEO-b-PGMA). The existence of acid-base interactions between the solubilizate and the weak polybase block forming the micelle core was confirmed by 1H NMR measurements. However, the incorporation of high numbers of hydrophobic guest molecules inside polymeric micelles can provoke not only an increase in the hydrodynamic size (2RH) of the objects but also a substantial change in the morphology (transition from spheres to cylinders). The application of the Higuchi model showed that the probe release followed a diffusion-controlled mechanism, and diffusion coefficients (D) on the order of 10-18-10-17 cm2/s were determined for IND release from 1.0 mg/mL PEO113-b-PDPA50 + 100% w/wp IND. Probe release from micelles with weak polybase-based cores can also be triggered by changes in the solution pH.  相似文献

Abstract— Employing time-resolved photoacoustics we measured the structural volume changes (ΔVri) occurring after photo-excitation of blepharismin (BPR) aqueous solutions; an expansion occurring in the subnanosecond timescale is followed by a back contraction within some hundreds of nanoseconds. The magnitude of the ΔVri strongly depends on pH, allowing the determination of the pKa of BPR with this method. The values so measured are very close to those found by means of UV-visible absorption spectroscopy. The presence of water-soluble electron acceptors or donors (hexacyanoferrate [III] hexacyanofer-rate [II]) as well as the concentration of oxygen do not affect the magnitude or the kinetics of the structural volume changes. On the contrary, we detect a strong deuterium effect; this suggests that the observed ΔVri are related to an altered hydrogen bond pattern of the excited state of the pigment with respect to the ground state. Comparative measurements with the parent compound hypericin are also reported, suggesting that the photo-induced expansion-contraction pattern is a general characteristic of polyhydroxylated quinones.  相似文献

Photolysis (lambda = 254 nm) of 4-allyl-tetrazolones 2a-c was carried out in methanol, 1-propanol, 1-hexanol, acetonitrile, and cyclohexane. The sole primary photochemical process identified was molecular nitrogen elimination, with formation of pyrimidinones 6a-c. Following the primary photocleavage, secondary reactions were observed in acetonitrile and cyclohexane, leading to phenyl-isocyanate (7), aniline (9), and 1-phenylprop-1-enyl-isocyanate (10a). In alcoholic solutions, the primary products, 6a-c, remained photostable even under extended irradiation, making possible the isolation of 3,4-dihydro-pyrimidinones as stable compounds in very high yields. The observed photostability of pyrimidinones 6a-c in alcohols is ascribed to the excited state quenching via reversible proton transfer, facilitated by the solvent cage stabilization due to formation of hydrogen bonds. The viscosity of alcohols is directly related to the cage effects observed. The photocleavage of 4-allyl-tetrazolones leads probably to a caged triplet radical pair. This hypothesis is confirmed by the solvent viscosity effect on the photolysis quantum yields. Additionally, dissolved molecular oxygen sensitizes the formation of pyrimidinones, as should be expected for a triplet intermediate that can only form the product molecule after T-S conversion, which is accelerated by oxygen.  相似文献
