Past cellular automata models of self-replication have always been initialized with an original copy of the structure that will replicate, and have been based on a transition function that only works for a single, specific structure. This article demonstrates for the first time that it is possible to create cellular automata models in which a self-replicating structure emerges from an initial state having a random density and distribution of individual components. These emergent self-replicating structures employ a fairly general rule set that can support the replication of structures of different sizes and their growth from smaller to larger ones. This rule set also allows “random” interactions of self-replicating structures with each other and with other structures within the cellular automata space. Systematic simulations show that emergence and growth of replicants occurs often and is essentially independent of the cellular space size, initial random pattern of components, and initial density of components, over a broad range of these parameters. The number of replicants and the total number of components they incorporate generally approach quasi-stable values with time.  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to study the identification problem of a spatially varying discontinuous parameter in stochastic hyperbolic equations. In previous works, the consistency property of the maximum likelihood estimate (MLE) was explored and the generating algorithm for MLE proposed under the condition that an unknown parameter is in a sufficiently regular space with respect to spatial variables.In order to show the consistency property of the MLE for a discontinuous coefficient, we use the method of sieves, i.e. the admissible class of unknown parameters is projected into a finite-dimensional space. For hyperbolic systems, we cannot obtain a regularity property of the solution with respect to a parameter. So in this paper, the parabolic regularization technique is used. The convergence of the derived finite-dimensional MLE to the infinite-dimensional MLE is justified under some conditions.  相似文献

In this paper we discuss farthest-point problems in which a set or sequence S of n points in the plane is given in advance and can be preprocessed to answer various queries efficiently. First, we give a data structure that can be used to compute the point farthest from a query line segment in O(log2n) time. Our data structure needs O(nlogn) space and preprocessing time. To the best of our knowledge no solution to this problem has been suggested yet. Second, we show how to use this data structure to obtain an output-sensitive query-based algorithm for polygonal path simplification. Both results are based on a series of data structures for fundamental farthest-point queries that can be reduced to each other.  相似文献

An algorithm introduced by L. Breiman et al. (1984) in the context of classification and regression trees is reinterpreted and extended to cover a variety of applications in source coding and modeling in which trees are involved. These include variable-rate and minimum-entropy tree-structured vector quantization, minimum expected cost decision trees, variable-order Markov modeling, optimum bit allocation, and computer graphics and image processing using quadtrees. A concentration on the first of these and a detailed analysis of variable-rate tree-structured vector quantization are provided. It is found that variable-rate tree-structured vector quantization outperforms not only the fixed-rate variety but also full-search vector quantization. The successive approximation character of variable-rate tree-structured vector quantization permits it to degrade gracefully if the rate is reduced at the encoder. The tool portfolio of a plant refers to the makeup, in quantity and type, of processing machines in the plant. It is determined by taking into consideration the future trends of process and machine technologies and the forecasts of product evolution and product demands. Portfolio planning is also a multicriteria decision-making task involving tradeoffs among, investment cost, throughput, cycle time, and risk. Tool portfolio planning is a complex task that has strong bearing on manufacturing efficiency. In the first part of this paper, a multicriteria economic decision model is presented for optimal configuration. of the portfolio and to determine the optimal factory loading. The second and third parts of the paper contain applications of the model. If plants are closely located or have a twin-plant design, portfolio planning at multiple plants can be integrated to enhance the overall effectiveness of portfolios. In the second part, a novel methodology for arbitrating capacity backup between plants is described. Because the economic model is constructed upon a valuation of both cycle time and throughput, it is a suitable method for the evaluation of cycle time reduction projects. The stress buffer layer (SBL) is a widely applied improvement in many advanced packages used to release the stress concentration at solder joints. However, it has been generally found that the metal line adjacent to the SBL may suffer larger deformation and its reliability should be addressed. In this study, the panel level package (PLP) technology with solder on polymer (SOP) structure is selected as the testing sample to investigate the effect of SBL. The ball shear strength test is conducted first to investigate the reliability of metal trace in PLP. In addition, finite element (FE) analysis is applied to understand the actual thermo-mechanical behavior of PLP after its assembly. The package-level and board-level reliability assessments are compared, and the suggested layout of the redistribution layer on the SBL is provided herein.  相似文献

A two-dimensional numerical simulation including a new interface state generation model has been developed to study the performance variation of a LDD MOSFET after a dc voltage stress. The spatial distribution of hot carrier induced interface states is calculated with a breaking silicon-hydrogen bond model. Mobility degradation and reduction of conduction charge due to interface traps are considered. A 0.6 μm LDD MOSFET was fabricated. The drain current degradation and the substrate current variation after a stress were characterized to compare the simulation. A reduction of the substrate current at Vg ≃0.5 Vd in a stressed device was observed from both the measurement and the simulation. Our study reveals that the reduction is attributed to a distance between a maximum channel electric field and generated interface states  相似文献
