Features of light attenuation in crystals under violation of the Bouguer law

A computer simulation and measurements of the light transmittance of germanium and paratellurite crystals of different thickness were used to show that, at scattering probabilities of photons comparable to their absorption probabilities, the standard methods for calculating light extinction coefficients on the basis of the Bouguer law lead to rough errors in estimation of the optical quality of a material.     

Modeling of the defect structure in dislocation-free silicon single crystals

A mathematical model of the formation of primary grown-in microdefects on the basis of dissociation diffusion is presented. Cases of “vacancy-oxygen” (V + O) and “carbon-interstitial” (C + I) interaction near the crystallization front are considered for dislocation-free Si single crystals grown by the floating-zone and Czochralski methods. The approximate analytical expressions obtained by setting 1D and 2D temperature fields in a crystal are in good agreement with the heterogeneous mechanism of formation of grown-in microdefects.     

Improved decoding of LDPC coded modulations

A coded modulation belief propagation (CMBP) decoder is proposed for decoding LDPC codes with multilevel modulations. The decoder takes into account statistical dependencies among bits originating in the same symbol, providing better performance than the marginal BP (MBP) decoder. Asymptotically it converges to MAP decoding. The CMBP decoder is based on a single-level coding (SLC) scheme and does not suffer from practical disadvantages of multi-level coding (MLC) schemes. Furthermore, the CMBP decoder can close the capacity gap of the bit interleaved coded modulation (BICM) SLC scheme. The BICM capacity gap increases when the modulation size increases and in scenarios where gray mapping is not possible.     

Reflection of electrons during tunneling and an intersubband polaron in the 2D electron system of a delta-layer in GaAs

Al-δ-GaAs structures are studied where tunneling to one or more subbands of the 2D electron system of a near-surface delta-doped layer is observed. Reflection of electrons at the threshold of the emission of an LO-phonon is observed. This phenomenon occurs when a new subband is involved in the tunneling process and when intersubband transitions of the electrons in a 2D-system with the emission of an LO-phonon are added to the inelastic tunneling within a single subband. It is shown that, under the conditions of an intersubband polaron resonance, the reflection processes dominate during tunneling into the delta-layer. If, however, tunneling from the delta-layer occurs, the reflection processes are observed when two subbands are occupied.     

New sources of “active” halogen bis(dialkylamide)hydrogen dibromobromates, efficient reagents for destruction of ecotoxicants

Bis(dialkylamide)hydrogen dibromobromates were synthesized and their reactivity was investigated in decomposition of diethylphosphonic, diethylphosphoric, and 4-toluenesulfonic acids 4-nitrophenyl esters. The nucleophilic reactivity of a typical α-nucleophile, hypobromite ion, is independent of the source of the active bromine. The cetyltrimethylammonium dibromobromate is a unique reagent for destruction of ecotoxicants. In weakly alkaline media the half-life of 4-nitrophenyl diethylphosphonate did not exceed 6 s at [BrO^?] 0.02 mol l^?1, and the apparent reaction rate compared to water increased ～40-fold. The main factor governing the micellar effects of surfactants is concentrating the substrate in the micellar pseudophase.     

Reactions of 2,2-disubstituted 1,1-dicyanoethenes with β-dimethylaminoacrolein aminal and 3-dimethylamino-1,1,3-trimethoxypropane

A reaction of 2,2-disubstituted 1,1-dicyanoethenes with β-dimethylaminoacrolein aminal and 3-dimethylamino-1,1,3-trimethoxypropane leads to substituted 6,6-dicyano-1-dimethyl-aminohexatrienes and an organic salt containing 1,1,9,9-tetracyano-2,8-diphenylnona-2,4,6,8-tetraenide as the anion and (dimethylaminopropenylidene)dimethylammonium as the cation, on the basis of which new cation-anionic polymethine dyes were obtained. Metal complexes of 2-hetarylindandiones-1,3

The chelate and molecular complexes of 2-(2-benzazolyl, perimidyl)-indandiones-1,3 were synthesized for the first time. The structures of the ligands (tautomeric forms) and complex compounds were determined from the X-ray diffraction, ¹H, ¹³C NMR, and IR data and the quantum-chemical calculations (RHF SCF in 6-31 G** basis).     

Spatially localized states in Marangoni convection in binary mixtures

Two-dimensional Marangoni convection in binary mixtures is studied in periodic domains with large spatial period in the horizontal. For negative Soret coefficients convection may set in via growing oscillations which evolve into standing waves. With increasing amplitude these waves undergo a transition to traveling waves, and then to more complex waveforms. Out of this state emerge stable stationary spatially localized structures embedded in a background of small amplitude standing waves. The relation of these states to the time-independent spatially localized states that characterize the so-called pinning region is investigated by exploring the stability properties of the latter, and the associated instabilities are studied using direct numerical simulation in time.     

A study of solid-state rhodium(III) sulfates

Solid-state rhodium(III) sulfates and their aqueous solutions were examined by IR and electronic absorption spectroscopy, thermogravimetry, X-ray powder diffraction analysis, and ¹⁰³Rh and ¹⁷O NMR spectroscopy. A study of the spontaneous aquation of freshly prepared solutions showed that this process results in an equilibrium between the subsystems of monomeric and oligomeric complexes. It was found that solid-state rhodium(III) sulfates vary in phase composition, basically consisting of dimeric and trimeric complexes.     

Electrochemical synthesis of niobium compounds in anodic dissolution of ferroniobium in methanol

Anodic dissolution of ferroniobium in anhydrous methanol in the presence of sodium methylate was studied. The possibility of recovering pure hexamethoxyniobate from the electrolyzate and its conversion into niobium methylate with an iron content not exceeding 0.01% was analyzed.
