A novel synthesis of inorganic–organic hybrid films containing well dispersed and almost uniform size Ag nanoparticles in
agar-agar matrix has been reported. The films are found to be highly stable for more than a year. The colloidal particles

When a sensor network is deployed to detect objects penetrating a protected region, it is not necessary to have every point
in the deployment region covered by a sensor. It is enough if the penetrating objects are detected at some point in their
trajectory. If a sensor network guarantees that every penetrating object will be detected by at least k distinct sensors before it crosses the barrier of wireless sensors, we say the network provides k-barrier coverage. In this paper, we develop theoretical foundations for k-barrier coverage. We propose efficient algorithms using which one can quickly determine, after deploying the sensors, whether
the deployment region is k-barrier covered. Next, we establish the optimal deployment pattern to achieve k-barrier coverage when deploying sensors deterministically. Finally, we consider barrier coverage with high probability when
sensors are deployed randomly. The major challenge, when dealing with probabilistic barrier coverage, is to derive critical
conditions using which one can compute the minimum number of sensors needed to ensure barrier coverage with high probability.
Deriving critical conditions for k-barrier coverage is, however, still an open problem. We derive critical conditions for a weaker notion of barrier coverage,

In Part I of this set of two papers, a model of mesoscopic plasticity is developed for studying initial-boundary value problems of small scale plasticity. Here we make qualitative, finite element method-based computational predictions of the theory. We demonstrate size effects and the development of strong inhomogeneity in simple shearing of plastically constrained grains. Non-locality in elastic straining leading to a strong Bauschinger effect is analyzed. Low shear strain boundary layers in constrained simple shearing of infinite layers of polycrystalline materials are not predicted by the model, and we justify the result based on an examination of the no-dislocation-flow boundary condition. The time-dependent, spatially homogeneous, simple shearing solution of PMFDM is studied numerically. The computational results and an analysis of continuous dependence with respect to initial data of solutions for a model linear problem point to the need for a nonlinear study of a stability transition of the homogeneous solution with decreasing grain size and increasing applied deformation. The continuous-dependence analysis also points to a possible mechanism for the development of spatial inhomogeneity in the initial stages of deformation in lower-order gradient plasticity theory. Results from thermal cycling of small scale beams/films with different degrees of constraint to plastic flow are presented showing size effects and reciprocal-film-thickness scaling of dislocation density boundary layer width. Qualitative similarities with results from discrete dislocation analyses are noted where possible.We discuss the convergence of approximate solutions with mesh refinement and its implications for the prediction of dislocation microstructure development, motivated by the notion of measure-valued solutions to conservation laws. 相似文献

A tool for studying links between continuum plasticity and dislocation theory within a field framework is presented. A finite element implementation of the geometrically linear version of a recently proposed theory of field dislocation mechanics (J. Mech. Phys. Solids 49 (2001) 761; Proc. Roy. Soc. 459 (2003) 1343; J. Mech. Phys. Solids 52 (2004) 301) represents the main idea behind the tool. The constitutive ingredients of the theory under consideration are simply elasticity and a specification of dislocation velocity and nucleation. The set of equations to be approximated are non-standard in the context of solid mechanics applications. It comprises the standard second-order equilibrium equations, a first-order div-curl system for the elastic incompatibility, and a first-order, wave-propagative system for the evolution of dislocation density. The latter two sets of equations require special treatment as the standard Galerkin method is not adequate, and are solved utilizing a least-squares finite element strategy. The implementation is validated against analytical results of the classical elastic theory of dislocations and analytical results of the theory itself. Elastic stress fields of dislocation distributions in generally anisotropic media of finite extent, deviation from elastic response, yield-drop, and back-stress are shown to be natural consequences of the model. The development of inhomogeneity, from homogeneous initial conditions and boundary conditions corresponding to homogeneous deformation in conventional plasticity, is also demonstrated. To our knowledge, this work represents the first computational implementation of a theory of dislocation mechanics where no analytical results, singular solutions in particular, are required to formulate the implementation. In particular, a part of the work is the first finite element implementation of Kröner's linear elastic theory of continuously distributed dislocations in its full generality. 相似文献

Carbohydrate modifications are believed to strongly affect the immunogenicity of glycans. Capsular polysaccharides (CPS) from bacterial pathogens are frequently equipped with a pyruvate that can be placed across the 4,6‐, 3,4‐, or 2,3‐positions. A trans‐2,3‐linked pyruvate is present on the CPS of the Gram‐positive bacterium Streptococcus pneumoniae serotype 4 (ST4), a pathogen responsible for pneumococcal infections. To assess the immunological importance of this modification within the CPS repeating unit, the first total synthesis of the glycan was carried out. Glycan microarrays containing a series of synthetic antigens demonstrated how antibodies raised against natural ST4 CPS specifically recognize the pyruvate within the context of the tetrasaccharide repeating unit. The pyruvate modification is a key motif for designing minimal synthetic carbohydrate vaccines for ST4. 相似文献

A composite was prepared from copper and graphene oxide (Cu-GO) by in-situ chemical reduction of a mixture containing GO and Cu(II) ions with potassium borohydride. The morphology and structure of the composite were confirmed by various physicochemical techniques. The materials were used in a tyrosinase-based microbiosensor where the enzyme is immobilized in a biocompatible matrix consisting of poly(ortho-phenylene diamine) and Cu-GO. The composite was deposited on the surface of an 8-μm thick carbon fiber microelectrode. The role of each component in the sensing layer was systematically investigated with respect to the analytical performance of the system. In its optimal configuration, the biosensor demonstrated (a) a sensitivity of 6.1?±?3 nA mM-1 dopamine (DA), (b) a linear response to DA (with a Michaelis-Menten constant of 0.29?±?0.03 mM), (c) good selectivity over ascorbic acid and uric acid, and (d) a high blocking capacity (112.2?±?2 mM) for ascorbic acid. Poly(o-phenylenediamine) electropolymerized carbon fiber electrode with sensitivity towards dopamine (DA) is 6.1?±?3 nA mM?1 supported by Cu-GO. The linear range for DA is 0.29?±?0.03 mM with 0.033 μM LOD and fast response time of <8 s with ascorbic acid blocking capacity of 112.2?±?2 mM AA. This paper presents the first scientific investigation on the musical pillars of the Vitthala Temple at Hampi, India. The solid stone columns in these pillars produce audible sound, when struck with a finger. Systematic investigations on the acoustic characteristics of the musical pillars of mahamandapam (great stage) of the Vitthala Temple have been carried out. The 11 most popular pillars that produce sounds of specific musical instruments are considered for the investigations. The sound produced from these 11 most popular musical pillars was recorded systematically and different nondestructive testing techniques such as low frequency ultrasonic testing, impact echo testing, and in situ metallography were employed on the musical columns of these pillars. The peak frequencies in the amplitude spectrum of the sound produced from various columns in these pillars are correlated with the dimensional measurements and ultrasonic velocity determined using impact echo technique. The peak frequencies obtained experimentally have been found to have excellent correlation with the calculated flexural frequencies based on the dimensional measurements and ultrasonic velocities of the columns. 相似文献
