Cross-linked polystyrene (PS) particles having red blood corpuscle (RBC)-like shape were synthesized by one-pot dispersion polymerization of styrene with ethanol/water mixture and ethylene glycol dimethacrylate (EGDMA) as the reaction medium and cross-linker, respectively. Monitoring of the reaction showed that RBC-like shape forms due to asymmetric shrinkage of a cross-linked network during the phase separation. In addition, three dimensional phase diagram was generated based on the yielded data that showed that the formation of such unique shape extremely depends on the polarity of the medium and injection time of the cross-linker. In situ synthesis of RBC-like particles, as promising biomaterials in targeted drug delivery and a model for the understanding of the cell behavior, via such fast and high solid content approach makes it to be conducive to subsequent scale up, i.e. potential commercial adoption. 相似文献

The experimentally known reduction of carbon monoxide using a 3‐coordinate [Ta(silox)3] (silox=OSi(tBu)3) complex initially forms a ketenylidene [(silox)3Ta? CCO], followed by a dicarbide [(silox)3Ta? CC? Ta(silox)3] structure. The mechanism for this intricate reaction has finally been revealed by using density functional theory, and importantly a likely structure for the previously unknown intermediate [(silox)3Ta? CO]2 has been identified. The analysis of the reaction pathway and the numerous intermediates has also uncovered an interesting pattern that results in CO cleavage, that being scission from a structure of the general form [(silox)3Ta? CnO] in which n is even. When n is odd, cleavage cannot occur. The mechanism has been extended to consider the effect of altering both the metal species and the ligand environment. Specifically, we predict that introducing electron‐rich metals to the right of Ta in the periodic table to create mixed‐metal dinuclear intermediates shows great promise, as does the ligand environment of the Cummins‐style 3‐coordinate amide structure. This latter environment has the added complexity of improved electron donation from amide rotation that can significantly increase the reaction exothermicity. 相似文献

This paper reports a novel fabrication process to develop planarized isolated islands of benzocyclobutene (BCB) polymer embedded in a silicon substrate. Embedded BCB in silicon (EBiS) can be used as an alternative to silicon dioxide in fabrication of electrostatic micromotors, microgenerators, and other microelectromechanical devices. EBiS takes advantage of the low dielectric constant and thermal conductivity of BCB polymers to develop electrical and thermal isolation integrated in silicon. The process involves conventional microfabrication techniques such as photolithography, deep reactive ion etching, and chemical mechanical planarization (CMP). We have characterized CMP of BCB polymers in detail since CMP is a key step in EBiS process. Atomic force microscopy (AFM) and elipsometry of blanket BCB films before and after CMP show that higher polishing down force pressure and speed lead to higher removal rate at the expense of higher surface roughness, non-uniformity, and scratch density. This is expected since BCB is a softer material compared to inorganic films such as silicon dioxide. We have observed that as the cure temperature of BCB increases beyond 200 °C, the CMP removal rate decreases drastically. The results from optical microscopy, scanning electron microscopy, and optical profilometry show excellent planarized surfaces on the EBiS islands. An average step height reduction of more than 95% was achieved after two BCB deposition and three CMP steps. 相似文献
