An extension of the Brown-Robinson equivalence theorem

In this paper we present an extension of the Brown–Robinson equivalence theorem on the core and competitive allocations of a nonstandard exchange economy. This has, as its implication, a corresponding extension of their result on the cores of large but finite economies. The extension is based on a result which shows that the core allocations of a nonstandard exchange economy with “integrable” endowments are “integrable.”     

Die gas-chromatographische Bestimmung von Fettalkoholen in Lanette N® und Lanette E®

Summary A simple gas chromatographic method for the quantitative determination of fatty alcohols in the emulsifying cetylstearylalcohol (Lanette N) and the sodium salt of cetylstearylsulphate (Lanette E) is described. Columns packed with 2.5% diethyleneglycol succinate on Chromosorb G and 10% EGSS-X on Gas-Chrom P achieved good separations and satisfactory results which are tabulated.      

Metal complexes of ethylenediaminetetraacetamide

Summary A convenient synthesis of the ligand ethylenediaminetetraacetamide (L) is described, and a number of metal complexes of the general formula MLCl_n · xH₂O (Mⁿ⁺=Ca^II, Mn^II, Fe^II, Co^II, N^II, Cu^II, Zn^II, Mg^II, Ba^II, Cd^II, Hg^II and La^III) prepared. The deprotonated Cu(L-H)₂ · 2 H₂O complex has been characterised and the associated pK values determined. I.r., conductivity, magnetic susceptibility and electronic spectral data are discussed.     

Brain-computer interface design for asynchronous control applications: improvements to the LF-ASD asynchronous brain switch

The low-frequency asynchronous switch design (LF-ASD) was introduced as a direct brain-computer interface (BCI) technology for asynchronous control applications. The LF-ASD operates as an asynchronous brain switch (ABS) which is activated only when a user intends control and maintains an inactive state output when the user is not meaning to control the device (i.e., they may be idle, thinking about a problem, or performing some other action). Results from LF-ASD evaluations have shown promise, although the reported error rates are too high for most practical applications. This paper presents the evaluation of four new LF-ASD designs with data collected from individuals with high-level spinal cord injuries and able-bodied subjects. These new designs incorporated electroencephalographic energy normalization and feature space dimensionality reduction. The error characteristics of the new ABS designs were significantly better than the LF-ASD design with true positive rate increases of approximately 33% for false positive rates in the range of 1%-2%. The results demonstrate that the dimensionality of the LF-ASD feature space can be reduced without performance degradation. The results also confirm previous findings that spinal cord-injured subjects can operate ABS designs to the same ability as able-bodied subjects.     

Hartree-Fock energies of D and D doubly excited states of the lithium isoelectronic sequence

Hartree-Fock energies of 1s2snd ⁴D, 1s2pnp ⁴D and 1s2pnd ⁴D⁰, n=3–5 of lithium isoelectronic sequence from Li to Ne⁺⁷ are reported. These results in conjunction with the energy of the lowest ⁴P and ⁴P⁰ states of the lithium isoelectronic sequence as calculated by Holoien and Geltman, are used to check some proposed assignments of lines obtained in beamfoil spectroscopy of Be(II), C(IV) and N(V).     

Synthesis of a carbasugar analogue of a putative intermediate in the UDP-galp-mutase catalyzed isomerization

[reaction: see text] The synthesis of the carbasugar analogue of 1,4-anhydro-beta-d-galactopyranose, a proposed intermediate in the reaction catalyzed by uridine diphosphate-alpha-d-Galp mutase, in racemic form via Diels-Alder and Barton decarboxylation chemistry is reported. This compound was found not to inhibit the mutase from Mycobacterium tuberculosis, indicating that the enzyme does not possess a 1,4-anhydro-beta-d-galactopyranose binding pocket.
