Nitrifiers and denitrifiers are the main producers of the greenhouse gas nitrous oxide (N(2)O). Knowledge of the respective contributions of each of these microbial groups to N(2)O production is a prerequisite for the development of effective mitigation strategies for N(2)O. Often, the differentiation is made by the use of inhibitors. Measurements of the natural abundance of the stable isotopes of N and O in N(2)O have been suggested as an alternative for the often unreliable inhibition studies. Here, we tested the natural abundance incubation method developed by Tilsner et al.1 with soils from four European grasslands differing in long-term management practices. Emission rates of N(2)O and stable isotope natural abundance of N(2)O and mineral N were measured in four different soil incubations: a control with 60% water-filled pore space (WFPS), a treatment with 60% WFPS and added ammonium (NH(4) (+)) to support nitrifiers, a control with 80% WFPS and a treatment with 80% WFPS and added nitrate (NO(3) (-)) to support denitrifiers. Decreases in NH(4) (+) concentrations, linked with relative (15)N-enrichment of residual NH(4) (+) and production of (15)N-depleted NO(3) (-), showed that nitrification was the main process for mineral N conversions. The N(2)O production, however, was generally dominated by reduction processes, as indicated by the up to 20 times larger N(2)O production under conditions favouring denitrification than under conditions favouring nitrification. Interestingly, the N(2)O concentration in the incubation atmospheres often levelled off or even decreased, accompanied by increases in delta(15)N and delta(18)O values of N(2)O. This points to uptake and further reduction of N(2)O to N(2), even under conditions with small concentrations of N(2)O in the atmosphere. The measurements of the natural abundances of (15)N and (18)O proved to be a valuable integral part of the natural abundance incubation method. Without these measurements, nitrification would not have been identified as essential for mineral N conversions and N(2)O consumption could not have been detected.  相似文献

The electrochemistry of ubiquinone-10, UQ, incorporated over a phospholipid layer adsorbed on a mercury drop electrode has been investigated over a wide pH range. It is shown that the position of the quinone headgroup in relation to the lipid determines the reversibility of the redox chemistry. For pH <7, the reaction follows a disproportionation route involving the ubiquione radical. There is evidence for the presence of a parallel reaction sequence. The bifurcation point appears to occur for the UQ molecule, which disproportionates after protonation and reduction, in parallel with direct electron transfer to yield the UQ--radical anion. The incorporation of UQ in a lipid monolayer makes its reduction very irreversible for pH > 7.  相似文献

Reaction of tin tetrachloride with the appropriate Grignard reagent gave Sn[C6H4-CH(OCH2)2]4 (2), which was transformed to Sn[C6H4-CHO]4 (3) and its hydrazido and amino derivatives Sn[C6H4-CHN-NH-C6H3-2,4-(NO2)2]4 (5) and Sn{C6H4-CH[N(C2H4)2O]2}4 (8). Oxidation of (3) produced Sn[C6H4-COOH]4 (4) while reduction of (3) gave Sn[C6H4-CH2-OH]4 (6). From the acid 4, an amino acid Sn[C6H4-CO-NH-CH2-CO-OCH3]4 (7) could be obtained by reaction with the methyl ester of glycine. All compounds were isolated in pure form with yields of 40-64% and were characterised by spectroscopic means (heteronuclear NMR) or by X-ray structure determination (3).  相似文献

Cyanobacteria possess different carotenoids as scavengers of reactive oxygen species. In Synechocystis PCC6803, zeaxanthin, echinenone, beta-carotene and myxoxanthophyll are synthesized. By disruption of the ketolase and hydroxylase genes, it was possible to obtain mutants devoid of either zeaxanthin, echinenone, or a combination of both carotenoids. With these mutants, their function in protecting photosynthetic electron transport under high light stress as well as chlorophyll and carotenoid degradation after initiation of singlet oxygen or radical formation was analyzed. Wild type Synechocystis is very well protected against high light-mediated photooxidation. Absence of echinenone affects photosynthetic electron transport to only a small extent. However, complete depletion of zeaxanthin together with a modification of myxoxanthophyll resulted in strong photoinhibition of overall photosynthetic electron transport as well as the photosystem II reaction. In the double mutant lacking both carotenoids the effects were additive. The light saturation curves of photosynthetic electron transport of the high light-treated mutants exhibited not only a lower saturation value but also smaller slopes. Using methylviologen or methylene blue as a radical or singlet oxygen generators, respectively, massive degradation of chlorophyll and carotenoids, indicative of photooxidative destruction of the photosynthetic apparatus, was observed, especially in the mutants devoid of zeaxanthin.  相似文献

We report a bottom-up approach for the fabrication of metallo-porphyrin compounds and nanoarchitectures in two dimensions. Scanning tunneling microscopy and tunneling spectroscopy observations elucidate the interaction of highly regular porphyrin layers self-assembled on a Ag(111) surface with iron monomers supplied by an atomic beam. The Fe is shown to be incorporated selectively in the porphyrin macrocycle whereby the template structure is strictly preserved. The immobilization of the molecular reactants allows the identification of single metalation events in a novel reaction scheme. Because the template layers provide extended arrays of reaction sites, superlattices of coordinatively unsaturated and magnetically active metal centers are obtained. This approach offers novel pathways to realize metallo-porphyrin compounds, low-dimensional metal-organic architectures and patterned surfaces which cannot be achieved by conventional means.  相似文献

Seven novel R2Sn(IV)-oxydiacetate (oda) and -iminodiacetate (ida) compounds of the form [R2Sn(oda)(H2O)]2 (R = Me, nBu, and Ph) (1-3), [(R2SnCl)2(oda)(H2O)2]n (R = Et, iBu, and tBu) (4-6), and [Me2Sn(ida)(MeOH)]2 (7) have been synthesized and characterized by IR, 1H, 13C, and 119Sn NMR (solution), solid-state 119Sn CPMAS NMR, and (119m)Sn M?ssbauer spectroscopy. The crystal structure of [Me2Sn(oda)(H2O)]2, 1, shows it to be dinuclear (centrosymmetric), with two seven-coordinated tin atoms, bridged by one arm of the carboxylate group from each oda. By contrast, the crystal structure of [(Et2SnCl)2(oda)(H2O)2]n, 4, comprises a zigzag polymeric assembly containing a pair of different alternating subunits, {Et2SnCl(H2O)} and {Et2SnCl(H2O)(oda)}, which are connected by way of bridging oda carboxylates, thus giving seven-coordinate tin centers in both components. Finally, the structure of [Me2Sn(ida)(MeOH)]2, 7, also centrosymmetric dinuclear, is comprised of a pair of mononuclear units with seven-coordinate tin. The 119Sn solid-state CPMAS NMR and (119m)Sn Mossbauer suggest the presence of seven-coordinate Sn metal atoms in some derivatives and the existence of two different tin sites in the [(R2SnCl)2(oda)(H2O)2]n compounds.  相似文献

During and after the application of currently used pesticides (CUPs) a significant fraction of applied pesticides can be lost to the air. A confirmatory and rapid procedure has been developed for the determination of four fungicides (carbendazim, thiabendazol, imazalil and bitertanol), three insecticides (imidacloprid, methidathion and pyriproxyfen), one helicide (methiocarb) and one acaricide (hexythiazox) in fine airborne particulate matter (PM 2.5) at trace level. The proposed method includes extraction of PM 2.5-bound pesticides by pressurized liquid extraction (PLE) followed by a direct injection into LC-MS/MS. The main parameters affecting the performance of the electrospray ionization source and PLE parameters were optimised using statistical design of experiments (DoE). The matrix effect was also evaluated. Recoveries ranged from 86 to 106% and the limit of quantification (LoQ) was 6.5 pg m(-3) for eight out of nine pesticides, when air volumes of 760 m(3) were collected. The method was applied to 60 samples collected from four stations of the monitoring network of the Regional Valencia Government (Spain) during August-October 2007. The measured concentrations ranged from not detected to 1,371 pg m(-3).  相似文献

Mn and Fe BPMEN complexes showed excellent reactivity in catalytic oxidation with an excess of co-reagent (CH3COOH). In the straight line of a cleaner catalytic system, volatile acetic acid was replaced by SiO2 (nano)particles with two different sizes to which pending carboxylic functions were added (SiO2@COOH). The SiO2@COOH beads were obtained by the functionalization of SiO2 with pending nitrile functions (SiO2@CN) followed by CN hydrolysis. All complexes and silica beads were characterized by NMR, infrared, DLS, TEM, X-ray diffraction. The replacement of CH3COOH by SiO2@COOH (100 times less on molar ratio) has been evaluated for (ep)oxidation on several substrates (cyclooctene, cyclohexene, cyclohexanol) and discussed in terms of activity and green metrics.  相似文献

Summary: In a previous paper (Macromolecules, 2005 , 38, 9221), the enthalpy of mixing in poly(DL ‐lactide) /poly(vinyl phenol) blends was directly measured by DSC. The first DSC scan for solution/precipitation blends showed phase separation, but miscibility was observed in the second DSC scan. Hence, miscibility was achieved after thermal treatment, an unusual behavior in polymer blend current research. However, the exothermal event observed during the first heating scan could also be the result of a chemical reaction. In this work, a new research study conducted to elucidate the nature of the exothermal heat observed in PDLA/PVPh during the first DSC heating scan. Since the single‐phase PDLLA/PVPh blend obtained after thermal treatment can be redissolved and reprecipitated, results obtained in the consecutive DSC scan prove that the process is completely reversible. Furthermore, GPC and 13C NMR results provide evidence that there is no change in the chemical structure of the studied polymers before and after the thermal treatment, which evidences the absence of transesterification reactions. Therefore, it can be concluded that the exothermal heat is the result of a mixing process, and miscibility is a consequence of specific interactions.

A confirmatory and rapid procedure has been developed for the determination of 30 currently used pesticides (CUP) in fine airborne particulate matter (PM 2.5) at trace level. The proposed method includes extraction of PM 2.5-bound pesticides by microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) followed by a direct injection into LC–MS/MS. The main parameters affecting the MAE extraction (time, temperature and volume of solvent) were optimised using statistical design of experiments (DoE). The matrix effect was also evaluated. Recoveries ranged from 72 to 109% and the limit of quantification (LoQ) was 32.5 pg m−3 for chlorpyrifos, 13.5 pg m−3 for fenhexamid, imazalil and prochloraz, and 6.5 pg m−3 for the rest of pesticides, when air volumes of 760 m3 were collected. The method was applied to 54 samples collected from three stations of the atmospheric monitoring network of the Regional Valencia Government (Spain) during April–July 2009. Nineteen out of 30 pesticides investigated were found in at least one sample: omethoate, carbendazim, acetamiprid, thiabendazole, malathion, flusilazole, metalaxyl, azoxystrobin, iprovalicarb, myclobutanil, tebuconazole, triflumizole, cyprodinil, tebufenpyrad, buprofezin, pyriproxyfen, hexythiazox, flufenoxuron and fenazaquin. The measured concentrations ranged from 6.5 to 1208 pg m−3. To our knowledge, 11 of the pesticides detected have been reported for the first time in ambient air.  相似文献
