Some novel photosensitive diacetylene diurethanes and their mixtures in common polymers

Some new octa-3,5-diynylene diurethanes were prepared using 3-butyn-1-ol, and all were found to be highly light-sensitive and to undergo topochemical polymerization on exposure to irradiation. The di-n-octyldiurethane was mixed with vinyl polymers such as poly(vinyl acetate) and poly(N,N-dimethylamino-ethyl methacrylate) and the mixtures were made into thin films by spin coating. The films were then irradiated by an electron beam to polymerize the diacetylene. The purple films thus obtained showed third-order nonlinear susceptibility, χ⁽³⁾, of the order of 10⁻¹⁰–10⁻¹¹ e.s.u.     

Structural properties of new spiro-1,3-propanediaminocyclotriphosphazene derivatives

New 1,3-propanediaminocyclotriphosphazene derivatives (7-17) were synthesized from the reactions of spiro-1,3-propanediaminocyclotriphosphazene, N₃P₃Cl₄[NH(CH₂)₃NH] (1) with the cyclopropanemethylamine (2), cyclohexylamine (3), pyrrolidine (4) cyclohexanol (5), cyclopropylmethanol (6). The structures of the novel compounds (7-17) were characterized by elemental analysis, mass spectrometry, ¹H and ³¹P NMR spectroscopy. The molecular structures of 8, 12 and 13 were determined by X-ray crystallography. The structures of all these three compounds are in the monoclinic crystal system; compounds 8 and 12 have the P21/c space group while compound 13 has the P21/n space group. The ring conformation of the cyclotriphosphazene and other external rings were investigated based on the X-ray crystal structures.     

Retention of configuration in the nucleophilic substitution reactions of some nine-membered ansa derivatives of cyclotriphosphazatriene

X-ray crystallographic evidence shows that nucleophilic substitution reactions of two different types of cyclophosphazene derivatives with relatively rigid nine-membered ansa rings leads to the first demonstration of retention of configuration in these molecular systems.     

Solutions of Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation with power law nonlinearity in (1+3) dimensions

This paper studies the Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation in (1+3) dimensions with an arbitrary power law nonlinearity. The method of Lie symmetry analysis is used to carry out the integration of the Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation. The solutions obtained are cnoidal waves, periodic solutions, singular periodic solutions, and solitary wave solutions. Subsequently, the extended tanh-function method and the G′/G method are used to integrate the Zakharov-Kuznetsov equation. Finally, the nontopological soliton solution is obtained by the aid of ansatz method. There are numerical simulations throughout the paper to support the analytical development.     

Active only integrator and differentiator with tunable time constants

In this paper new active only current-mode integrator and differentiator with electronically tunable time constants are described. They are composed of one operational amplifier (OA) and two operational transconductance amplifiers (OTAs), and are suitable for monolithic implementation either with CMOS or bipolar technologies. No realizability conditions are imposed for the proposed circuits and all of the active sensitivities are low. The performances of the circuits are demonstrated on the PSPICE platform.     

Urea dimethacrylates functionalized with bisphosphonate/bisphosphonic acid for improved dental materials

Incorporation of bisphosphonate/bisphosphonic acid groups in dental monomer structures should increase interaction of these monomers with dental tissue as these groups have strong affinity for hydroxyapatite. Therefore, new urea dimethacrylates functionalized with bisphosphonate (1a, 1b) and bisphosphonic acid (2a, 2b) groups are synthesized and evaluated for dental applications. Monomers 1a and 1b are synthesized from 2‐isocyanatoethyl methacrylate (IEM) and two bisphosphonated amines (BPA1 and BPA2), prepared as reported elsewhere. Selective dealkylation of the bisphosphonate ester groups of 1a and 1b using trimethylsilyl bromide (TMSBr) gives monomers (2a and 2b) with bisphosphonic acid functionality. X‐ray diffractometer (XRD), Raman spectroscopy, and X‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analyses of monomer‐treated HAP particles show that 2a induces formation of stable monomer‐calcium salts, similar to 10‐methacryloyloxydecyl dihydrogen phosphate (MDP), with higher chemical interaction than 2b. The photopolymerization studies indicate good copolymerizability with commercial dental monomers. In vitro studies on NIH 3T3 mouse embryonic fibroblast cells have clearly shown that the tested monomers (1b and 2b) are not toxic according to the MTT standards. Poly(cyclohexene oxide)/clay nanocomposites by photoinitiated cationic polymerization via activated monomer mechanism

Poly(cyclohexene oxide) (PCHO)/clay nanocomposites were prepared by in situ photoinitiated activated monomer cationic polymerization. The polymerization of cyclohexene oxide through the interlayer galleries of the clay can provide distribution of the clay layers in the polymer matrix homogenously and results in the formation of PCHO/clay nanocomposites. The exfoliated structures were characterized by X‐ray diffraction spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, transmission electron microscopy, and atomic force microscopy. © 2009 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Commuting elements and spaces of homomorphisms

This article records basic topological, as well as homological properties of the space of homomorphisms Hom(π,G) where π is a finitely generated discrete group, and G is a Lie group, possibly non-compact. If π is a free abelian group of rank equal to n, then Hom(π, G) is the space of ordered n–tuples of commuting elements in G. If G = SU(2), a complete calculation of the cohomology of these spaces is given for n = 2, 3.
