Refractive index behavior of SiO2-P2O5 glass in optical fiber application

The refractive index of SiO₂-P₂O₅ glass prepared by a modified chemical vapor deposition method is measured using an interference microscope. It is found that the refractive index in bulk form increases linearly at 9.5×10^-4 (mol.%)^-1 as the P₂O₅ concentration increases. It is also found that quenching at extremely high speed reduces the refractive index over 2 mol.% P₂O₅. The wavelength dispersion of the refractive index dn/dλ is constant up to 5 mol.% P₂O₅ producing a refractive index difference of 5×10^-3 compared with fused silica. Consequently, this glass materials is thought to be suitable for wide band-width optical fiber applications.     

Independence of Yang-Mills Equations with Respect to the Invariant Pairing in the Lie Algebra

It is proved that the Euler–Lagrange equations of a Yang-Mills type Lagragian is independent with respect to the chosen pairing in the Lie algebra. Moreover, the Hamilton-Cartan equations of these Lagrangians are obtained and proved to be also independent with respect to the pairing. Structural and electronic properties of lithium endohedral doped carbon nanocapsules

Endohedral lithium and lithium ion doped carbon nanocapsule (CNC) systems have been theoretically investigated by performing semi-empirical molecular orbital method at the level of PM3 (UHF and/or RHF) type quantum chemical treatment in order to explore the energetics and electronic structures. The geometries of the studied systems have been optimized and the molecular properties, energies, some selected molecular orbital eigenvalues and dipole moments of the studied capsules are reported. Molecular dynamics simulations have been also performed to study the structural properties and energetics of endohedral lithium and lithium ion doped CNCs.

Extending modules relative to a torsion theory

An R-module M is said to be an extending module if every closed submodule of M is a direct summand. In this paper we introduce and investigate the concept of a type 2 τ-extending module, where τ is a hereditary torsion theory on Mod-R. An R-module M is called type 2 τ-extending if every type 2 τ-closed submodule of M is a direct summand of M. If τ _I is the torsion theory on Mod-R corresponding to an idempotent ideal I of R and M is a type 2 τ _I -extending R-module, then the question of whether or not M/MI is an extending R/I-module is investigated. In particular, for the Goldie torsion theory τ _G we give an example of a module that is type 2 τ _G -extending but not extending.

Standardized method comparison for ACS:180 plus and Immulite sensitive PSA (sPSA) measurement methods

The aim of this study was to compare two immunoassay measurement methods, the ACS:180 Plus (Chiron Diagnostics) kit and the Immulite sPSA (DPC) kit. Method comparison analysis was performed according to EP9-A; approved guideline of NCCLS 51. Serum samples having a wide range of total prostate-specific antigen (PSA) concentrations were evaluated in split-sample analysis. F-test, t-test analysis and regression statistics were performed. In Deming regression analysis the coefficients were as follows; the slope=0.967; y-intercept=-0.148, r=0.989. An acceptable bias was seen since the systematical error was calculated to have a value less than the total allowable error calculated from biological variations. Non-parametric evaluation of the area under ROC curves for ACS:180 Plus and Immulite sPSA were 0.997 and 0.987, respectively. Diagnostic accuracy was at the level of p= 0.000 and no statistical difference was found between the two assay methods.
