Phase Transitions in Electro- and Magnetorheological Fluids

The model of internal structural phase transformations occurring in electro- and magnetorheological fluids under the action of external electric (magnetic) field is presented. The model describes both types of experimentally observed transformations such as the formation of linear chain clusters and bulk dense phases composed of suspension particles. The main qualitative result of this work is the conclusion that the appearance of chain clusters precedes the suspension separation into bulk phases with different particle densities and considerably affects the phase equilibrium diagrams. This conclusion agrees with the results of known experiments.     

3-Cyanopyridine-2(1H)-thiones and 3-cyano-2-(methylthio)pyridines in the synthesis of substituted 3-(aminomethyl)pyridines

The reactions of substituted 3-cyanopyridine-2(1H)-thiones and 3-cyano-2-(methylthio)pyridines with lithium aluminum hydride in anhydrous diethyl ether afforded the corresponding 3-aminomethyl derivatives, which were used in the synthesis of the corresponding amides.     

Dendron rodcoils: synthesis of novel organic hybrid structures

Convergent and divergent syntheses of novel organic hybrid structures termed dendron rodcoils (DRC) containing dendritic, rodlike, and coillike segments are described. The aryl ester dendron masked with 32 trifluoromethyl groups is prepared via a convergent approach using 5-(tert-butyldimethylsiloxy)isophthalic acid as the monomer unit. The activation of the focal point of the dendron allows for successful coupling between the dendron and the diblock rodcoil molecules synthesized separately. In another example, the dendritic block is grown via divergent strategy from the terminus of rodcoil using 3,5-bis(tert-butyldimethylsiloxy)benzoic acid as an AB(2) monomer. A combination of catalyzed esterification reactions and silyl deprotection chemistry proved to be a very efficient method for construction of these nanosized structures with unusual molecular architecture. Both synthetic strategies allowed for the preparation of DRCs with nearly monodisperse dendritic blocks as demonstrated by NMR, MALDI-TOF, and GPC measurements.     

Construction and testing of the ALICE TRD chambers at LHE,JINR

The current status of construction and testing of Transition Radiation Detectors (TRD) for ALICE at LHE, JINR, is presented. The main purpose of this detector is electron identification at intensive pion background. The whole ALICE TRD system is comprised of 540 wire chambers of total sensitive area ∼750 m². Each chamber consists of drift and amplifying gaps and a radiator. One hundred such TRD chambers will be constructed at LHE, JINR. The text was submitted by the authors in English.     

Energy-dependent potentials in the nuclear three body problem

In this paper three-body equations are extended to the case of energy-dependent nucleon-nucleon potentials. The dependence of the three-body observables on the energydependent potential shape is being investigated on the assumption that these potentials are phase-equivalent. This dependence is shown to be fairly strong.
