Removal of dust from flue gas in magnetically stabilized fluidized bed

A magnetically stabilized fluidized bed (MSFB, φ 500mm x 2100mm) was designed to study dust removal from flue gas. Based on the mechanism of dust removal in a fixed bed, the effects on collection efficiency of magnetic field intensity, ratio of flue gas velocity to minimum fluidization velocity, bed height, and particle average diameter, were investigated. Then feasible methods for MSFB to better remove dust were proposed. Over 95% of dust removal with MSFB can be achieved, when stable fluidization is maintained and when magnetic particles are frequently renewed.

Synthesis and characterization of fluorene‐based rod–coil liquid crystal polymers

A series of fluorene‐based rod–coil liquid crystal polymers with different lengths of the coil segments on backbones were designed and synthesized by a palladium‐catalyzed Suzuki coupling‐reaction. The thermal stability, the UV–Vis absorption and fluorescence spectra in chloroform solution and thin film, the electrochemical properties, thermal behavior, and morphology of these rod–coil polymers were investigated. The thermal stability of these polymers steadily decreased on increasing the length of the coil segments on the backbone; their optical and electrochemical properties did not exhibit noticeable dependence on the weight fraction of the coil segments. However, the shoulder emission and the full width at the half‐maximum (FWHM) in PL spectra of the films increased, whereas the oxidation onset potentials and the corresponding HOMO energy levels decreased with the increase in the weight fraction of the coil segments, which was assigned to microphase separation and formation of folded chain conformation as the weight fraction of the coil segments increased. These polymers displayed a characteristic liquid crystalline texture. The variation of the weight fraction of the coil segments obviously affected the thermal behavior and morphology of these rod–coil polymers. Copyright © 2008 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.     

Oscillation Theorems of the Second Order Linear Matrix Differential System with Damping

By using the Riccati technique and the technique, new oscillation criteria are obtained for the second order matrix differential system(P(t)Y′(t))′ r(t)P(t)Y′(t) Q(t)Y(t) = 0, t≥t0.These results in the present paper generalize and improve many known conclusions. Furthermore, some results are different from the most known ones in the sense that they are based on the information only on a sequence of subintervals of [t0, ∞), rather than on the whole half-line. In particular, our results complement a number of existing results and handle the ease that is not covered by the known criteria.     

AN INVESTIGATION ON THE INTERACTION MECHANISM OF β-CAROTENE WITH HALOGEN ATOM PRODUCED IN HALOBENZENE BY UV IRRADIATION

ESR measurements using spin trapping technique werecarried out for β-carotene-halobenzene system under UV lightirradiation.The ESR spectra observed in the presence andin the absence of β-carotene are markedly different.Thepossible scheme of β-carotene interacting with halogen atomwas proposed.

<Emphasis Type="Italic">k</Emphasis>-factors in regular graphs

Plesnik in 1972 proved that an （m - 1）-edge connected m-regular graph of even order has a 1-factor containing any given edge and has another 1-factor excluding any given m - 1 edges. Alder et al. in 1999 showed that if G is a regular （2n ＋ 1）-edge-connected bipartite graph, then G has a 1-factor containing any given edge and excluding any given matching of size n. In this paper we obtain some sufficient conditions related to the edge-connectivity for an n-regular graph to have a k-factor containing a set of edges and （or） excluding a set of edges, where 1 ≤ k ≤n/2. In particular, we generalize Plesnik＇s result and the results obtained by Liu et al. in 1998, and improve Katerinis＇ result obtained 1993. Furthermore, we show that the results in this paper are the best possible.     

Catalyst-free and solvent-free method for the synthesis of quinoxalines under microwave irradiation

A facile procedure for the synthesis.of quinoxalines is being reported starting from benzil and 1,2-diaminobenzene. Thereactions were carried out catalyst-free, solvent-free and under microwave irradiation conditions in high yield (84-98%) with short time (3-6 rain) and environmental benign, as well as convenient operation. The structures of all the compounds have been confirmed on the basis of their IR, 1H NMR, and/or 13C NMR, mass spectral data.
