We report on double-differential inclusive cross-sections of the production of secondary protons, charged pions, and deuterons, in the interactions with a 5% λ int thick stationary lead target, of proton and pion beams with momentum from ±3 GeV/c to ±15 GeV/c. Results are given for secondary particles with production angles 20°<θ<125°. Cross-sections on lead nuclei are compared with cross-sections on beryllium, copper, and tantalum nuclei.  相似文献

Hadron generation in the Geant4 simulation tool kit is compared with inclusive spectra of secondary protons and pions from the interactions with beryllium nuclei of +8.9 GeV/c protons and pions, and of −8.0 GeV/c pions. The data were taken in 2002 at the CERN Proton Synchrotron with the HARP spectrometer. We report on significant disagreements between data and Monte Carlo simulation especially in the polar-angle distributions of secondary protons and pions. The Dzhelepov Laboratory of Nuclear Problems’ activity is aimed at developing three directions in radiation medicine: 3D conformal proton therapy, accelerator techniques for proton and carbon treatment of tumors, and new types of detector systems for spectrometric computed tomography (CT) and positron emission tomography (PET). JINR and IBA have developed and constructed the medical proton cyclotron C235-V3. At present, all basic cyclotron systems have been built. We plan to assemble this cyclotron at JINR in 2011 and perform tests with the extracted proton beam in 2012. A superconducting isochronous cyclotron C400 has been designed by the IBA-JINR collaboration. This cyclotron will be used for radiotherapy with proton, helium and carbon ions. The 12C6+ and 4He2+ ions will be accelerated to an energy of 400 MeV/amu, the protons will be extracted at the energy 265 MeV. The construction of the C400 cyclotron was started in 2010 within the framework of the Archarde project (France). Development of spectrometric CT tomographs may allow one to determine the chemical composition of a substance together with the density, measured using traditional CT. This may advance modern diagnostic methods significantly. JINR develops fundamentally new pixel detector systems for spectrometric CT. The time-of-flight (TOF) system installed in the positron emission tomograph (PET) permits essential reduction in the detector noise from occasional events of different positron annihilations. The micropixel avalanche photodiodes (MAPDs) developed at JINR allow a factor of 1.5 reduction in the resolution time for the PET TOF system and suppression of the noise level as compared to commercial PET. The development of a combined PET/MRI is of considerable medical interest, but it cannot be made with the existing PET tomographs based on detectors of compact photomultipliers due to strong alternating magnetic field of MRI. Change-over to detectors of micropixel avalanche photodiodes permits making a combined PET/MRI.  相似文献

Today’s greatest challenge in accelerator-based neutrino physics is to measure the mixing angle θ13 which is known to be much smaller than the solar mixing angle θ12 and the atmospheric mixing angle θ23. A non-zero value of the angle θ13 is a prerequisite for observing CP violation in neutrino mixing. In this paper, we discuss a deep-sea neutrino experiment with 1.5 Mt fiducial target mass in the Gulf of Taranto with the prime objective of measuring θ13. The detector is exposed to the CERN neutrino beam to Gran Sasso in off-axis geometry. Monochromatic muon neutrinos of ≈ 800 MeV energy are the dominant beam component. Neutrinos are detected through quasi-elastic, charged-current reactions in sea water; electrons and muons are detected in a large-surface, ring-imaging Cherenkov detector. The profile of the seabed in the Gulf of Taranto allows for a moveable experiment at variable distances from CERN, starting at 1100 km. From the oscillatory pattern of the disappearance of muon neutrinos, the experiment will measure sin2θ23 and especially Δm2 23 with high precision. The appearance of electron neutrinos will be observed with a sensitivity to P(νμ→νe) as small as 0.0035 (90% CL) and sin2θ13 as small as 0.0019 (90% CL; for a CP phase angle δ=0° and for normal neutrino mass hierarchy).  相似文献

The response of the Timepix detector to neon ions with kinetic energy 77 and 158.4 MeV has been studied at the cyclotron U-400M of the JINR Flerov Laboratory of Nuclear Reaction. Sensors produced from gallium arsenide compensated by chromium and from silicon are used for these measurements. While in Timepix detector with Si sensor the well-known so-called “volcano effect” observed, in Timepix detector with GaAs:Cr sensor such effect was completely absent. In the work the behavior of the Timepix detector with GaAs:Cr sensor under irradiation with heavy ions is described in comparison with the detector based on Si sensor. Also the possible reason for absence of “volcano” effect in GaAs:Cr detector is proposed.  相似文献
