On the existence theorem of non-trivial periodic solution of periodic systems of high order

In this paper, we consider nonlinear and nonautonomous systems with the trivial solution:dx/dt=f(t, x), x∈R~nwhere f(t+ω,x)+f(t, x), f(t, 0)=0. By using the theory of Brouwer topological degree, we obtainthe existence theorem of nontrivial ω-periodic solution. Finally the applied example of the theoremis cited.     

Vibrational circular dichroism: a new spectroscopic tool for biomolecular structural determination

Vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) in the past two decades has developed into a powerful new structural tool. A concise review of the applications of VCD to determine the structures of various biological molecules, namely peptides and proteins, nucleic acids and carbohydrates, is provided.     

Molecular dynamics studies on octadecylammonium chloride at the air/liquid interface

Molecular dynamics simulations on surfactant octadecylammonium chloride at the air/liquid interface were performed. It was found that the alkyl chains of octadecylammonium would change to order with increasing the concentration of octadecylammonium at the air/liquid interface. Some functions, such as the concentration distributions, the radial distribution function and the mean squared displacement (MSD) were evaluated to investigate the structural properties of interface. We found that the salts can affect octadecylammonium aggregate at the interface: (1) univalent ions, such as chloride and sodium ions, affect slightly the structure of monolayer and (2) bivalent ions, such as sulfate or calcium ions, affect greatly, especially for the bivalent negative ions.

Reversible polymerization driven by folding

Bisfunctionalized m-phenylene ethynylene imine oligomers were polymerized in the polar solvent acetonitrile, resulting in high-molecular weight poly(m-phenylene ethynylene imine)s. It is hypothesized that this polymerization, which proceeds through the reversible metathesis of imine bonds, is driven by the folding of the long m-phenylene ethynylene imine chains. Upon conducting the polymerization in a series of solvents in which the m-phenylene ethynylene oligomers exhibit different folding stabilities, it was possible to correlate the molecular weight of the resulting poly(m-phenylene ethynylene imine)s with the helical stability of the corresponding oligomers. The polymerization was also demonstrated to be reversible and responsive to solvent and temperature changes.     

The stimulatory effect of heavy metal cations on proliferation of aortic smooth muscle cells

Heavy metal cations Cd2+, Pb2+, and Hg2+ were added to substitute for Ca2+ in culture media to study their effect on the relationship between CaM and the proliferation of cultured rabbit aortic smooth muscle cells (ASMC). It was found that all the heavy metal cations studied stimulated the proliferation of ASMC in varying degrees, increased the CaM content in cells at late G1 stage and decreased the activity of cAMP PDE. These results suggest that the adverse effect of heavy metals may be related to the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis and hypertensive disease.
