The structure of mixed fluorides Ca1?xSrxF2 and Sr1?xBaxF2 and the luminescence of Eu2+ in these crystals

The structure of the mixed fluorites Ca_1−x Sr_xF₂ and Sr_1−x Ba_xF₂, as well as the structure of the Eu²⁺ impurity center in these crystals, is calculated within the framework of the virtual-crystal method realized in the shell model and pair-potential approximation. The phenomenological dependence of the position of the lower level of the 4f ⁶5d configuration of the Eu²⁺ ion on distance to the Eu²⁺-ligand is derived. The dependences of the Stokes shift and the Huang-Rhys factor on x are calculated for the yellow luminescence in Sr_1−x Ba_xF₂:Eu²⁺. The value of x at which the lower level of the 4f ⁶5d configuration of the Eu²⁺ ion in Sr_1−x Ba_xF₂:Eu²⁺ falls within the conduction band is found. __________ Translated from Fizika Tverdogo Tela, Vol. 45, No. 5, 2003, pp. 823–826. Kinetic theory of the generation of magnetic fields in the radiation-dominated stage of expansion of the universe

The system of linearized Einstein and Maxwell equations and a kinetic equation with model collision integral for the cosmological plasma are used to calculate the magnetic field generated by solenoidal perturbations in the radiation-dominated stage of expansion of the universe. The magnetic field is generated by two effects — the Harrison effect and a new effect due to kinetic processes. Kinetic features of ethylene polymerization over supported catalysts [2,6‐bis(imino)pyridyl iron dichloride/magnesium dichloride] with AlR3 as an activator

The effects of polymerization temperature, polymerization time, ethylene and hydrogen concentration, and effect of comonomers (hexene‐1, propylene) on the activity of supported catalyst of composition LFeCl₂/MgCl₂‐Al(i‐Bu)₃ (L = 2,6‐bis[1‐(2,6‐dimethylphenylimino)ethyl] pyridyl) and polymer characteristics (molecular weight (MW), molecular‐weight distribution (MWD), molecular structure) have been studied. Effective activation energy of ethylene polymerization over LFeCl₂/MgCl₂‐Al(i‐Bu)₃ has a value typical of supported Ziegler–Natta catalysts (11.9 kcal/mol). The polymerization reaction is of the first order with respect to monomer at the ethylene concentration >0.2 mol/L. Addition of small amounts of hydrogen (9–17%) significantly increases the activity; however, further increase in hydrogen concentration decreases the activity. The IRS and DSC analysis of PE indicates that catalyst LFeCl₂/MgCl₂‐Al(i‐Bu)₃ has a very low copolymerizing ability toward propylene and hexene‐1. MW and MWD of PE produced over these catalysts depend on the polymerization time, ethylene and hexene‐1 concentration. The activation effect of hydrogen and other kinetic features of ethylene polymerization over supported catalysts based on the Fe (II) complexes are discussed. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Control of the temperature hysteresis and diffuse dielectric anomaly in the temperature range of the ferroelectric-antiferroelectric phase transition in PbZr1 − x TixO3 (0.03 ≤ x ≤ 0.05) ceramics

The magnitudes of the temperature hysteresis and diffuse dielectric anomaly corresponding to the transition from the antiferroelectric phase to the ferroelectric phase in PbZr_{1 ? x} Ti_xO₃ (0.03 ≤ x ≤ 0.05) ceramics can be reversibly changed by varying the temperatures of heating and cooling in the course of thermocycling. The results obtained indicate that the antiferroelectric-ferroelectric transition in the PbZr_{1 ? x} Ti_xO₃ ceramics materials is a smeared first-order phase transition.     

Axisymmetric excitation of a dielectric torus: Numerical solution

The article considers the mathematical model of a lens antenna in the shape of a homogeneous dielectric torus excited by an axial magnetic dipole. The boundary-value problem for an elliptical differential equation is posed and reduced by the fundamental solution method to an integral equation of 2nd kind over the torus section. A numerical algorithm is proposed, and the numerical results are compared with experimental findings.
