Experimental investigation of plastic deformations of argillaceous soil with triaxial compression

The article describes the change in the loading surface during the process of simple loading. A study is made of the direction of the vector of the increment in the plastic deformation at different points of the loading surface. The experimental data were obtained in tests on the controlled triaxial compression of hollow cylindrical samples of argillaceous soil. Mathematical model of the uptake of material from electrode surfaces into a spark

A statistical scheme for the formation of the sparking spot associated with uptake of material into the spark is proposed. The change in the composition of individual breakdown traces with multiple hits at the same point on the electrode was taken as the principle factor determining spectral line intensity. Good agreement between computed and experimental curves was noted for the burnup of the dry residue of a solution from the end face of a copper electrode.     

Mass-spectrometric study of the sesquiterpene lactone germanin-A and its derivatives

Summary The mass spectra of the sesquiterpene lactone germanin-A and 11 of its derivatives and deuterium analogs have been studied. A scheme has been put forward for the decomposition of germanin-A under the action of electron impact. It has been established that the elimination of a molecule of acid from position 8 in the dissociative ionization of germanin-A and of tetrahydrogermanin-A involves the hydrogen atom of the carboxy group present in position 10 of the sesquiterpene ring. Why breakup of photons and pions into forward dijets is so different: Predictions from nonlinear nuclear <Emphasis Type="Italic">k</Emphasis><Subscript>⊥</Subscript> factorization

Based on an approach to non-Abelian propagation of color dipoles in a nuclear medium, we formulate a nonlinear k_⊥ factorization for the breakup of photons and pions into forward hard dijets in terms of the collective Weizsäcker-Williams glue of nuclei. We find quite distinct practical consequences of nonlinear nuclear k_⊥ factorization for interactions of pointlike photons and nonpointlike pions. In the former case, the large transverse momentum p_⊥ of jets comes from the intrinsic momentum of quarks and antiquarks in the photon, and nuclear effects manifest themselves as an azimuthal decorrelation with an acoplanarity momentum of the order of the nuclear saturation momentum Q _A . In the breakup of pions off free nucleons to the leading order in pQCD, the spectator parton has a small transverse momentum and the hard dijet cross section is suppressed. In the breakup of pions off heavy nuclei, the forward hard jets are predicted to be entirely decorrelated. We comment on the sensitivity of the pionic dijet cross section to the pion distribution amplitude. The predicted distinction between the breakup of photons and pions can be tested by the sphericity and thrust analysis of the forward hadronic system in the COMPASS experiment at CERN.     

Manganese(I) poly(mercaptoimidazolyl)borate complexes: spectroscopic and structural characterization of Mn...H-B interactions in solution and in the solid state

The manganese(I) tricarbonyl complexes (Bm(R))Mn(CO)3(R = Me, Bz, But, p-Tol) and (PhBmMe)Mn(CO)3, the first bis(mercaptoimidazolyl)borate derivatives for this metal, have been readily prepared and fully characterized. In particular, the presence of three-center-two-electron Mn...H-B interactions in these species, both in solution and in the solid state, has been investigated using a combination of IR and NMR spectroscopies and, in the case of the methyl-, tert-butyl- and para-tolyl-substituted derivatives, by X-ray crystallography. To complement these synthetic and structural studies, the tris(mercaptoimidazolyl)borate complexes (TmMe)Mn(CO)3(R = Me, Bz, But, p-Tol) and (PhTm(Me))Mn(CO)3, as well as the related pyrazolylbis(mercaptoimidazolyl)borate (pzBmMe)Mn(CO)3, have also been synthesized and characterized by a combination of analytical and spectroscopic techniques.
