Theoretical studies on frequency doubling in glass optical fibers in constant-intensity approximation

Theoretical consideration of the second harmonic generation in the constant-intensity approximation with account of the inverse effect of the excited wave on a stimulation wave through account of the phase change of interaction waves is presented. The behavior of harmonic wave intensity in a fiber for different parameters of the problem has been studied, the self-action of the light both in glass optical fiber and inside the homogeneous medium has been analyzed. In this approximation a decrease of conversion efficiency and a change of parameters of the curves of synchronism versus the pump intensity, in particular, the change of positions of intensity minima that does not take place in the constant-field approximation, are observed. The propagation of a plane wave packet in the homogeneous medium with quadratic nonlinearity and in an optical fiber accompanied by the self-phase modulation and leading to the change of the Gaussian pulse spectrum is analyzed with account of the phase changes of all the interacting waves.     

Effect of the molecular weight of monodisperse specimens of high-density polyethylene on the dynamic modulus of elasticity

The effect of the molecular weight on the instantaneous dynamic modulus of elasticity of monodisperse specimens of linear polyethylene has been studied. It is shown that above a critical value of the molecular weight the modulus of elasticity is constant and equal to 4·10⁹ N/m², while below that value it increases to 7.28·10⁹ N/m².M. Neodymium luminescence in chalcogenides of europium-gallium: EuGaS4 and EuGa2Se4

Photoluminescence of chalcogenides of europium-gallium, EuGa₂S₄ and EuGa₂Se₄, doped with neodymium is investigated. The positions of Stark levels are determined from the spectra. The symmetry of luminescence centres is shown to be lower than cubic and the existence of nonequivalent centers is established. At 77 K the decay time of luminescence from the excited levels of Nd³⁺ depends on the spin of the states. That indicates a slow relaxation rate in the crystals under investigation. It is probable that these crystals can be used as effective luminophores.     

Photoelectric properties of GaSexTe1−x : Sn single crystals

The paper deals with the results of investigations of the photoelectric properties of GaSe_xTe_1?x : Sn single crystals in a strong electric field.The maximum influence of light on the current-voltage characteristics is observed to beat wavelength between 400 and 800 nm.The sensitivity of the phototrigger effect is about 10⁷$\text{Vcm}{}^2\text{W}$ in these crystals.
