Tandem mass spectrum of a farnesyl transferase inhibitor--gas-phase rearrangements involving imidazole

Compound 1 (1-(3-chlorophenyl)-4-[1-(4-cyanobenzyl)imidazolylmethyl]-2-piperazinone hydrochloride) is a farnesyl transferase inhibitor intended for treatment of cancer. A detailed analysis of the electrospray ionization mass spectrometry and tandem mass spectrometry data of protonated 1 shows that in the gas phase, upon collision-induced dissociation, this ion undergoes complicated rearrangement and fragmentation. These processes include a novel two-step rearrangement. The first step involves a gas-phase intramolecular S(N)2 reaction that forms an intermediate. The second step consists of three competitive rearrangement/fragmentation pathways of the intermediate, giving rise to protonated 2, protonated methylene-imidazole, and a distonic methylimidazole radical cation. Deuterated 1 was studied under the same experimental conditions, and the results strongly support the proposed two-step rearrangement process. It is noted that the unique structure of 1, especially the imidazole ring of 1, plays a critical role in the rearrangement of protonated 1.     

Synergism in the solvent extraction of samarium by thenoyltrifluoroacetone and triphenyl or trioctyl phosphine oxide mixture

Synergistic extraction of samarium with TTA(HA) and TPPO or TOPO (B) mixtures were investigated. The extracted complex was proved to have the general formula SmA₃ · 2B. A graphical determination for the formation constants of these complexes gave the values 3.9 × 10¹³ and 8.2 × 10¹⁰ for SmA₃ · 2TOPO and SmA₃ · 2TPPO in benzene, respectively.     

Symmetrically bifurcate hydrogen bonding—IV : Steric requirements in symmetrically hydrogen-bonded bis(β-acylvinyl)amines and their isomers

The effect of the size and branching of alkyl substituents R¹ and R² on the formation of all possible stereoisomers of bis(β-acylvinyl)amines, [R¹COCR²CH]₂NH, has been investigated. IR and NMR data show that steric requirements of these substituents and resonance stabilization of the s-trans system are the main factors determining the position of the dynamic equilibrium.

A New Setting for Polynomial Continuous-Time Systems, and a Realization Theorem

The paper deals with polynomial continuous time systems on algebraicmanifolds. The main result states that a nonlinear system maybe regularly immersed into a polynomial algebraically observablesystem ifi its observation algebra is finitely generated andregular. We also indicate some perspectives for future workin this direction.

Here the definition is weakened by imposing less stringent integrability conditions, some in terms of perhaps conditionally convergent improper integrals, on the matrix function relating A and B. The extended relation, t quasi-similarity, is not symmetric or transitive; however, it is shown that if (2) is t quasi-similar to (1)and (1)is uniformly, uniformly asymptotically, or strictly stable, then so is (2).Results are also given concerning linear asymptotic equilibrium of (2)in the case where (1)is stricly stable or has linear asymptotic equilibrium.     

On the tetrad theory of gravity

After reviewing problems which appear in the theory of teleparallelism (tetrad theory) based on a Lagrangian quadratic in the torsion, the possibility of adding higher-order terms is discussed. For a test Lagrangian,O(3)-symmetric vacuum solutions and spatially homogeneous and isotropic solutions are found. The latter contain nonsingular cosmological models.     

Reduction techniques for infinite-dimensional Hamiltonian systems: Some ideas and applications

In the language of tensor analysis on differentiable manifolds, we present a reduction method of integrability structures, and apply it to recover some well-known hierarchies of integrable nonlinear evolution equations.This research has been partially supported by the Italian Ministry of Public Education     

Recovery and recrystallization in AISI 321 steel under static conditions

Static softening of AISI 321 steel after cold and hot deformation characterizing the industrial thermomechanical treatment was studied by means of tensile tests and TEM. The deformation temperature, the strain and the grain size were the main parameters determining the final softening. The results can be applied for optimization of the solution annealing.
