Poly(2-methoxyethyl acrylate) (PMEA) exhibits excellent blood compatibility. To understand why such a surface functionality exists, the surface of PMEA should be characterized in detail, structurally and dynamically, under not only ambient conditions, but also in water. However, a thin film of PMEA supported on a solid substrate can be easily broken, namely it is dewetted. Our strategy to overcome this difficulty is to mix PMEA with poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA). Differential scanning calorimetry and cloud point measurements revealed that the PMEA/PMMA blend has a phase diagram with a lower critical solution temperature. The blend surface was also characterized by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy in conjunction with microscopic observations. Although PMEA is preferentially segregated over PMMA at the blend surface due to its lower surface free energy, the extent of segregation in the as-prepared films was not sufficient to cover the surface. Annealing the blend film at an appropriate temperature, higher than the glass transition temperature and lower than the phase-separation temperature of the blend, enabled us to prepare a stable and flat surface that was perfectly covered with PMEA.  相似文献

 Solid microspheres consisting of thermal heterocomplex molecules made from heating a mixture of aspartic acid and proline were transformed into husk-like microcapsules in their aqueous suspensions when pH value increased. The thickness of the outer shell of the husk-like microcapsule decreased as pH increased. Formation of the husk-like microcapsules is discussed to be due to both diffusion of the constituent molecules from the inside of the microspheres and conformational changes of those molecules in the process. A combinatorial phage display method was applied to films composed of a stereoregular polymer of methacrylates. The phage clones with selective affinity for isotactic (it) poly(methyl methacrylate) (PMMA) were isolated. Greater amounts of the phage clones bound to it-PMMA, compared to other stereoregular PMMAs. The phage expressing ELWRPTR most strongly bound to the polymer, and the selectivity was also the best. The peptide motif essential for the specific interaction with the stereoregular polymer was revealed.  相似文献

The influence of composition on the structural ordering and magnetism in the VxNb1+yS2 system has been investigated by X-ray diffraction and magnetic measurements. Stoichiometric V1/3NbS2 did not exhibit the structural ordering of vanadium between the NbS2 layers. In the ordered structure, the vanadium composition deviated from the ideal value of to both higher and lower values, while the niobium composition was in the range of 0.05?y?0.18. Excess niobium, y>0, is thought to play an essential role in the structural ordering in this system. For samples with excess niobium and ordered structures, a magnetic transition was observed at 20-50 K, depending on the composition. The spontaneous magnetization of 3-5×10−3 μB/V atom is thought to be intrinsic to this system. The magnetization curves consisted of a constant and a proportional parts of the magnetic field, which correspond to the spontaneous magnetization and high-field susceptibility, respectively. The magnetization curves and the temperature dependencies of the high-field susceptibility were quite similar to those of the canted antiferromagnetic NiS2. A correlation between the structural and magnetic ordering is suggested.  相似文献

A novel process has been developed to form fine patterns on glass substrates. The process consists of the following steps: (1) coating of gel film on a substrate, (2) patterning on the gel film, and (3) heat-treatment. The key point in this process is the control of hardening of the gel films by the addition of organic polymers such as polyethylene glycol (PEG). The addition of PEG increased the viscosity of the coating solutions and delayed the gelation time, but had little effect on the optical properties of the resultant heat-treated glass films. The newly developed process is expected to be applicable to the formation of the optical devices such as diffraction gratings and pre-groovesof optical memory disks.  相似文献

In order to provide a protein adsorption resistant surface even when the surface was in contact with a protein solution under completely dry conditions, a new phospholipid copolymer, poly (2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine (MPC)- co-2-vinylnaphthalene (vN)) (PMvN), was synthesized. Poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) could be readily coated with PMvN by a solvent evaporation method. Dynamic contact angle measurements with water revealed that the surface was wetted very rapidly and had strong hydrophilic characteristics; moreover, molecular mobility at the surface was extremely low. When the surface came in contact with a plasma protein solution containing bovine serum albumin (BSA), the amounts of the plasma protein adsorbed on the dry surface coated with PMvN and that adsorbed on a dry surface coated with poly(MPC-co-n-butyl methacrylate) (PMB) were compared. Substantially lower protein adsorption was observed with PMvN coating. This is due to the rapid hydration behavior of PMvN. We concluded that PMvN can be used as a functional coating material for medical devices without any wetting pretreatment.  相似文献
