The boundary equation method in the third initial boundary value problem of the theory of elasticity. Part 2: Methods for approximate solutions

This work considers the methods for solving approximately the four types of boundary equations arising when the third initial boundary value problem of the theory of elasticity is solved with the help of retarded elastic potentials. The convergence of these methods is proved.     

Developing a risk-assesment methodology in the U.K.defence industry

As a leading defence equipment company, the Dynamics Divisionof British Aerospace Defence Company (BAeDef(DD)) has experiencedthe worst effects of post-Coldwar defence cuts, a global recession,and a determination by the U.K. Government to achieve greatervalue for money in defence procurement. The major tenet of thisnew approach to defence prwurement was 'eyes on, hands off',promoting a shift of the management of project risks from theMinistry of Defence (MOD) to industry. Initial industry reactionwas sceptical but bxame increasingly compliant as tenderingrequirements included visibility of contractors' risk assessment.This paper describes the risk-assessment methodology createdby BAeDef(DD) to meet these changed conditions. The human and organizational aspects of these developments onrisk have helped create a pro-active risk-management cultureat BAeDef(DD). Continuous assessment of project risks providesthe impetus for wider thinking beyond risk-taking or risk-aversionpreferences, leading to greater realism in planning. Decisionsto implement risk resolution measures require competence incost-benefit analysis. The conditions to foster this new behaviourare better-informed senior management, with the rejection ofbad news eliminated at all levels, and the laying of a pathto becoming a learning company.     

Synthesis and some reactions of indolo[2,1-c]-1,4-oxazinium perchlorates

Summary The reaction of acyl perchlorates with 1 phenacylskatole affords the previously unknown 1-R-lamethyl-3phenylindolo[2,1-c1-1,4oxazinium salts, which undergo recyclization by the action of ammonia to the corresponding indolo[2,1-alpyrazines. It is found that the salts (R = CHj, CZHS) also form dimers of their anhydro bases. The perchlorate (R = Ph) is converted to indolo[2,141-1, 2, S-triazepine by the action of hydrazine.Translated from Khimiya Geterotsiklicheskikh Soedinenii, No. 8, pp. 1041-1047, August, 1994.     

Identification of nonlinear elliptic equations

An optimization theoretic approach and algorithm for the estimation of state-dependent coefficients in nonlinear elliptic equation is presented. It is based on a splitting method combined with convex analysis techniques. Convergence of the algorithm is established and numerical examples are included.The research of K. Si1－xGex/Si量子阱发光材料的分子束外延生长及其结构研究

采用固源Si分子束外延,在较高的生长温度于Si(100)衬底上制备出Si1－xGex/Si量子阱发光材料。发光样品的质量和特性通过卢瑟福背散射、X射线双晶衍射及光致发光评估。背散射实验中观察到应变超晶格的反常沟道效应;X射线分析表明材料的生长是共度的、无应力释放的,结晶完整性好。低温光致发光主要是外延合金量子阱中带边激子的无声发射和横光学声子参与的激子复合。并讨论了生长温度对量于阱发光的影响。     

Synthesis, thermal treatment and characterization of cobalt ferrite-based nanocomposites

We have used time-differential perturbed angular correlation (PAC) spectroscopy with ¹⁸¹Ta-probes to study the electric field gradient at Zr-sites in synthetic zircon and hafnon between room temperature and 1,200°C. PAC spectra are similar to those obtained from naturally occurring zircons. In particular, a change in slope of the quadrupole coupling vs. temperature is observed in the synthetic zircon at the same temperature as seen in natural zircons from the Mud Tank carbonatite (Australia). The synthetic hafnon data also shows this feature but at somewhat higher temperature. Low-temperature PAC spectra of both synthetic zircon and hafnon have a clearly reduced anisotropy. We believe that the cause for this is a electronic defect, possibly created during the β-decay of the probe parent nucleus.
