Synthesis of purpurin-18 imide derivatives from chlorophyll-a and -b by modifications and functionalizations along their peripheries

The methyl pheophorbide-a and methyl pheophorbide-b were used as starting materials and converted to purpurin-18 ester by ring-opening and rearrangement reaction in their exocyclic ring. N-Substituted purpurin-18 imides were obtained from purpurin-18 ester through amidation reaction of six-membered cyclic anhydride. Further chemical modifications along their peripheries were carried out by a variety of common reactions, including electrophilic substitution, Wittig reaction, allomerization and Vilsmeier reaction, to afford the title compounds with long-wavelength absorption. The structures of all new chlorins were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, UV–vis and ¹H NMR spectra.     

2,2′‐Anhydro‐1‐(3′,5′‐di‐O‐acetyl‐β‐D‐arabinofuranosyl)uracil,a cyclouridine nucleoside with a C4′‐endo furanosyl conformation

2,2′‐Anhydro‐1‐(3′,5′‐di‐O‐acetyl‐β‐D‐arabinofuranosyl)uracil, C₁₃H₁₄N₂O₇, was obtained by refluxing 2′,3′‐O‐(methoxymethylene)uridine in acetic anhydride. The structure exhibits a nearly perfect C4′‐endo (⁴E) conformation. The best four‐atom plane of the five‐membered furanose ring is O—C—C—C, involving the C atoms of the fused five‐membered oxazolidine ring, and the torsion angle is only −0.4 (2)°. The oxazolidine ring is essentially coplanar with the six‐membered uracil ring [r.m.s. deviation = 0.012 (5) Å and dihedral angle = −3.2 (3)°]. The conformation at the exocyclic C—C bond is gauche–trans which is stabilized by various C—H...π and C—O...π interactions.     

Stereoselective Synthesis and Characterization of (Z)-(−)-4-(1′-Alkoxyl-1′-alkyloxycarbonyl-methylidene)-5(R)-[(1R)-menthyloxy]-γ-butyrolactones

Abstract

A series of enantiomerically pure (Z)-(?)-4-(1′-alkyloxy-1′-alkyloxycarbonyl-methylidene)-5(R)-[(1R)-menthyloxy]-γ-butyrolactones were synthesized and characterized in good to excellent yields via O-alkylation of (4R,5R)-(?)-4-ethoxyoxalyl-5-[(1R)-menthyloxy]-γ-butyrolactone with alkyl halides in the presence of K₂CO₃ in acetone at room temperature.     

Synthesis of oxazole and furan derivatives via Rh2(OAc)4-catalyzed C≡X bond insertion of cyclic 2-diazo-1,3-diketones with nitriles and arylacetylenes

Abstract

A convenient and efficient procedure for the synthesis of 2-substituted-6,7-dihydrobenzo[d]oxazol-4(5H)-ones and 2-aryl-6,7-dihydrobenzofuran-4(5H)-ones through a Rh₂(OAc)₄-catalyzed C≡X (X?=?N, C) insertion of cyclic 2-diazo-1,3-diketones with nitriles and aromatic alkynes has been developed. This reaction uses readily available starting materials and stable cyclic 2-diazo-1,3-diketone compounds, with desired products formed in good to high yields. A tentative mechanism involving a C≡X bond insertion and 1,5-dipolar electrocyclization/ring opening and cyclization sequence for this reaction is proposed.     

Preparation and characterization of a polystyrene/bovine serum albumin nanoparticle‐coated capillary for chiral separation using open‐tubular capillary electrochromatography

Polystyrene (PS) nanoparticles coated by BSA, hereafter denoted as PS/BSA, were prepared and chemically immobilized for the first time onto a capillary inner wall for open‐tubular CEC (OTCEC). EOF and scanning electron micrography were used to characterize the prepared nanoparticle‐coated capillaries. To investigate the performance of the prepared columns in OTCEC, chiral separation of d ,l ‐tryptophan (dl ‐Trp) was performed in monolayer BSA‐modified capillary and PS/BSA nanoparticle‐coated columns. The results indicated that the nanoparticle‐modified column afforded a higher resolution compared with the monolayer type. Rapid enantioseparation of dl ‐Trp (within 3 min) was achieved with the PS/BSA‐immobilized column using an electroosmotic pump‐assisted CEC. Enantiomer separations of other compounds like dl ‐tyrosine and warfarin were also achieved with the column. Besides, run‐to‐run and column‐to‐column repeatabilities of the PS/BSA‐coated column in the chiral separation were systematically introduced.     

The Influences of Polymers and Temperature on the Foam Properties of 3‐Dodecylalkoxyl‐2‐hydroxylpropyl Trimethylammonium Chloride

The foam performances of 3‐dodecoxy‐2‐hydroxypropyl trimethylammonium chloride (C₁₂TAC) have been determined in the existence of different relative amount of polymer. The experimental results show that the foaming ability of the mixture systems of the C₁₂TAC/PEG and C₁₂TAC/PVP is stronger than that of the surfactant solutions in the absence of polymer, and with the increase of relative amount of polymer both foaming efficiency and foam stability of the surfactant solutions are evidently enhanced. For the aqueous solution of the surfactant, effect of temperature on foaming properties has also been examined. The results show that both the foaming ability and stability of the foams of the surfactant solutions are highest (or strongest) at 30°C.     

Synthesis and characterization of biodegradable polyesteramides constructed mainly by alternating diesterdiamide units from N,N′-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)-adipamide and diacids

Two kinds of aliphatic alternating polyesteramide prepolymers were prepared through melt polycondensation from N,N’-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)-adipamide and adipic acid or sebacic acid. Chain extension of them was conducted with 2,2′-(1,4-phenylene)-bis(2-oxazoline) and adipoyl biscaprolactamate as combined chain extenders. The chain extended polyesteramides (ExtPEAs) were characterized by IR, 1 H-NMR, differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, wide angle X-ray scattering, tensile test and enzymatic degradation. The results showed that the ExtPEA(4,m)s were mainly constituted with the diester adipamide alternating units. ExtPEA(4,4) and ExtPEA(4,8) had Tm of 83.8℃ and 85.8℃ and initial decomposition temperature above 310.0℃. They crystallized similarly as Nylon-66 did and were flexible thermoplastic materials with tensile strength up to 25.64 MPa and strain at break up to 737%.
