Determination of diltiazem hydrochloride enantiomers in dog plasma using chiral stationary-phase liquid chromatography

The separation and determination of d- and l-diltiazem hydrochloride in dog plasma by a two-column high-performance liquid chromatographic technique are described. Diltiazem hydrochloride and its metabolites were extracted from dog plasma and analyzed on a conventional column (Nucleosil 5C18) with a volatile buffer system. The column effluent of diltiazem hydrochloride was collected and evaporated. The enantiomeric ratio of the collected diltiazem was determined using a chiral column (Chiralcel OC). The method was accurate and sensitive.     

Effect of Comatic Aberration on the Propagation Characteristics of Laguerre--Gaussian Beams

Seidel comatic aberration is an important cause of deformation for a Laguerre--Gaussian (LG) beam. In addition, mono-axial comatic aberration, whose phase modulation depends only on one transverse coordinate, is also an important cause of beam deformation. Deformation of an LG beam by such aberrations is analyzed through numerical simulation based on the angular spectrum method. It is also shown that for holographically generated LG beams quadratic spatial variation of grating pitch can produce seidel and mono-axial comatic aberrations. An example of an experimentally generated LG beam with mono-axial comatic aberration is reported.     

Weak coupling in the upper part of thesd-shell and α-clustering in38Ar

It is suggested that weak coupling picture for theα-cluster states holds not only in the⁴⁴Ti～⁴⁰Ca region but also in the upper part of thesd-shell region. To confirm this experimentally, theα-clustering aspects of³⁸Ar is investigated.     

Quasienergy anholonomy and its application to adiabatic quantum state manipulation

The parametric dependence of a quantum map under the influence of a rank-1 perturbation is investigated. While the Floquet operator of the map and its spectrum have a common period with respect to the perturbation strength lambda, we show an example in which none of the quasienergies nor the eigenvectors obey the same period: After a periodic increment of lambda, the quasienergy arrives at the nearest higher one, instead of the initial one, exhibiting an anholonomy, which governs another anholonomy of the eigenvectors. An application to quantum state manipulations is outlined.     

Three-dimensional photoelasticity of the rotating body

Report covers the stress distribution of a hydraulically loaded pump impeller obtained with the aid of the stress-freezing method. The similarity of stress distribution of an actual metallic impeller and the photoelastic model is discussed dynamically and hydrodynamically. From the experiments by freezing stresses under centrifugal force and hydraulic forces, the stress distribution of the actual metallic impeller has been estimated on the basis of similarity.     

Two New Triterpene Saponins from Acanthophyllum laxiusculum

Two new triterpene glycosides, 1 and 2 , together with three known ones, were isolated from roots of Acanthophyllum laxiusculum Schiman ‐Czeika . The structures of the new compounds were established by extensive 1D‐ and 2D‐NMR spectroscopic experiments and MS analyses as 23‐O‐β‐D ‐galactopyranosylgypsogenic acid 28‐O‐{β‐D ‐glucopyranosyl‐(1→2)‐6‐O‐[4‐carboxy‐3‐hydroxy‐3‐methyl‐1‐oxobutyl]‐β‐D ‐glucopyranosyl‐(1→6)}‐[β‐D ‐glucopyranosyl‐(1→3)]‐β‐D ‐galactopyranosyl ester ( 1 ) and gypsogenic acid 28‐O‐{β‐D ‐glucopyranosyl‐(1→2)‐6‐O‐[4‐carboxy‐3‐hydroxy‐3‐methyl‐1‐oxobutyl]‐β‐D ‐glucopyranosyl‐(1→6)}‐[β‐D ‐glucopyranosyl‐(1→3)]‐β‐D ‐galactopyranosyl ester ( 2 ).     

Engineering the promiscuous racemase activity of an arylmalonate decarboxylase

Variant G74C of arylmalonate decarboxylase (AMDase) from Bordatella bronchoseptica has a unique racemising activity towards profens. By protein engineering, variant G74C/V43A with a 20-fold shift towards promiscuous racemisation was obtained, based on a reduced activity in the decarboxylation reaction and a two-fold increase in the racemisation activity. The mutant showed an extended substrate range, with a 30-fold increase in the reaction rate towards ketoprofen. Molecular dynamics simulations and the substrate profile of the racemase indicate that the steric and polar effects of the substrate structure play a more dominant role on catalysis than mere kinetic α-proton acidity. The observation that the conversion of β,γ-unsaturated carboxylic acids does not lead to a rearrangement to form their α,β isomers indicates a concerted rather than a stepwise mechanism. Interestingly, a substrate bearing a nitro group instead of the carboxylic acid group on the α-carbon atom was also converted by the racemase.     

The precise measurement of the (vapour + liquid) equilibrium properties for (CO2 + isobutane) binary mixtures

Recently, it has been suggested that natural working fluids, such as CO₂, hydrocarbons, and their mixtures, could provide a long-term alternative to fluorocarbon refrigerants. (Vapour + liquid) equilibrium (VLE) data for these fluids are essential for the development of equations of state, and for industrial process such as separation and refinement. However, there are large inconsistencies among the available literature data for (CO₂ + isobutane) binary mixtures, and therefore provision of reliable and new measurements with expanded uncertainties is required. In this study, we determined precise VLE data using a new re-circulating type apparatus, which was mainly designed by Akico Co., Japan. An equilibrium cell with an inner volume of about 380 cm³ and two optical windows was used to observe the phase behaviour. The cell had re-circulating loops and expansion loops that were immersed in a thermostatted liquid bath and air bath, respectively. After establishment of a steady state in these loops, the compositions of the samples were measured by a gas chromatograph (GL Science, GC-3200). The VLE data were measured for CO₂/propane and CO₂/isobutane binary mixtures within the temperature range from 300 K to 330 K and at pressures up to 7 MPa. These data were compared with the available literature data and with values predicted by thermodynamic property models.     

Hypervalent phenyl-λ3-iodane-mediated para-selective aromatic fluorination of 3-phenylpropyl ethers

Exposure of 3-phenylpropyl ethers to an activated iodosylbenzene monomer·18-crown-6 complex [PhI(OH)BF(4)·18C6] in the presence of BF(3)-Et(2)O and water results in the para-selective monofluorination of benzene ring via neighboring alkoxy group participation and directly affords 3-(4-fluorophenyl)propyl ethers regioselectively in good yields.
