Phytoremediation of industrial effluent containing azo dye by model up-flow constructed wetland

This study assessed the treatment of azo dye Acid Orange 7(AO7)containing wastewater by laboratory-scale up-flow constructed wetland(UFCW)with and without supplementary aeration.The supplementary aeration could effectively control the ratio of anaerobic and aerobic zones in the UFCW reactor.The results dearly show the supplementary aeration boosted the biodegradation of organic pollutants and mineralization of intermediate aromatic amines formed by AO7 degradation.     

Heterobimetallic catalysis in asymmetric 1,4-addition of O-alkylhydroxylamine to enones

A heterobimetallic YLi3tris(binaphthoxide) catalyst (YLB) promoted a 1,4-addition of O-methylhydroxylamine in high enantiomeric excess (up to 97% ee). Catalyst loading was reduced to as little as 0.5 mol %, still affording the 1,4-adduct in 96% yield and 96% ee. A high concentration of substrates and the scalability of the present system is also practically useful. The results suggested that the heterobimetallic catalysis was not deactivated even in the presence of excess amine under highly concentrated conditions. A Y and Li bimetallic cooperative function was essential for a high catalyst turnover number.     

Exciton and multi-exciton structures in GaAs quantum dots studied by single-photon correlation spectroscopy

Single-photon emitters and detectors are key devices for realizing secure communications by single-photon-based cryptography and single-photon-based quantum computing. For the establishment of these technologies, we need to understand the electronic structures of single and multiple excitons. Therefore, we have studied their emissions via the micro-photoluminescence (μ-PL) spectra of strain-free GaAs/AlGaAs single quantum dots, using excitation power dependence, time-resolved, and single-photon correlation measurements. Under pulsed excitation, we observed clear photon antibunching and bunching by auto- and cross-correlation measurements. From these results, we found that the emission peaks observed in the μ-PL spectra originated from exciton, charged exciton, and biexciton states.     

Synthesis of hepialone; principal component from male sex scales of hepialuscalifornicus (lepidoptera)

Racemic and optically active hepialone, a new sex-pheromonal component produced by the male moth, Hepialus californicus Bvd., was synthesized and thus confirmed the structure of the pheromone as (2R)-2,3-dihydro-2-ethyl-6-methyl-4H-pyran-4-one (1).     

Monolithic Spin Column Extraction and GC-MS for Simultaneously Detecting Nine Cold Medication Compounds and the Drug Bromoisovaleryl Urea in Human Serum

We describe and validate a gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) method for the simultaneous quantitative detection of nine cold medication compounds and bromoisovaleryl urea an over-the-counter cold medication, in human serum; the nine compounds are acetaminophen (APAP), codeine, dihydrocodeine, three ephedrines, ethenzamide, ibuprofen, and salicylic acid. After adding the internal standard, acetaminophen-d ₄ (APAP-d ₄), compounds were extracted from the serum samples in the monolithic spin column. The extracted samples were evaporated to dryness. The residues were derivatized with acetonitrile and N-methyl-N-(tert-butyldimethylsilyl) trifluoroacetamide + 1% tert-butyldimethylchlorosilane, which were subjected to GC-MS analysis. The limit of quantification (LOQ) was 0.005–0.1 μg mL^?1. The calibration curves were linear (r ² > 0.995) in the concentration range from the LOQ to 10 μg mL^?1. The intra- and inter-day variations, determined by the measurement of quality control samples at three tested concentrations, showed acceptable values. The lower limit of detection was between 0.005 and 0.05 μg mL^?1. Mean recoveries from the serum samples were between 2.5 and 73.8%. This procedure was applied in the toxicological analysis of an intoxicated patient who was responsible for a traffic accident.
