Production of vibrationally excited OH in chemiluminescent reactions of ozone with monoterpenes

Emission from vibrationally excited OH molecules (Meinel bands) has been observed in chemiluminescent gas-phase reactions of ozone with myrcene, α-phellandrene, α-pinene, limonene and linallol. In addition emission from HCHO(¹A₂) and methylglyoxal(³A_u) has also been identified in reactions with myrcene, α-pinene and α-phellandrene.     

Investigations on mixed micelles of binary mixtures of zwitterionic surfactants and triblock polymers: a cyclic voltammetric study

Cyclic voltammetry has been employed to investigate the mixed micellar behavior of the binary mixtures of different zwitterionic surfactants such as 3-(N,N-dimethylhexadecylammonio)propane sulfonate (HPS), 3-(N,N-dimethyltetradecylammonio)propane sulfonate (TPS) and 3-(N,N-dimethyldodecylammonio)propane sulfonate (DPS) with three triblock polymers (L64, F127 and P65) by using 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-1-piperidinyloxy (TEMPO) as an electroactive probe at 25 °C. Critical micellar concentration (cmc) has been determined from the plots of variation in peak current (i_p) versus the total concentration of surfactant/triblock polymer. Diffusion coefficient of the electroactive species has also been reported. The regular solution theory approximation has been used to determine various micellar parameters of ideal systems. The variation in micellar mole fraction (X₁) of the zwitterionic surfactant supports the formation of mixed micelles, which are rich in triblock polymer component in the surfactant rich region of the mixture and vice versa. The regular solution interaction parameter (β) suggests the formation of mixed micelles due to the synergistic interactions in case of HPS/TPS/DPS + F127/P65 systems and gets affected by EO/PO ratio of triblock polymers.     

Application of Pharmacokinetic Prediction Platforms in the Design of Optimized Anti-Cancer Drugs

Cancer is the second most common cause of death in the United States, accounting for 602,350 deaths in 2020. Cancer-related death rates have declined by 27% over the past two decades, partially due to the identification of novel anti-cancer drugs. Despite improvements in cancer treatment, newly approved oncology drugs are associated with increased toxicity risk. These toxicities may be mitigated by pharmacokinetic optimization and reductions in off-target interactions. As such, there is a need for early-stage implementation of pharmacokinetic (PK) prediction tools. Several PK prediction platforms exist, including pkCSM, SuperCypsPred, Pred-hERG, Similarity Ensemble Approach (SEA), and SwissADME. These tools can be used in screening hits, allowing for the selection of compounds were reduced toxicity and/or risk of attrition. In this short commentary, we used PK prediction tools in the optimization of mitogen activated extracellular signal-related kinase kinase 1 (MEK1) inhibitors. In doing so, we identified MEK1 inhibitors with retained activity and optimized predictive PK properties, devoid of hERG inhibition. These data support the use of publicly available PK prediction platforms in early-stage drug discovery to design safer drugs.     

Synthesis of homopolymers bearing novel chromophore 4‐oxy‐4′‐(vinylbarbituratephenyl)azobenzene for nonlinear optical applications

The synthesis of new acrylate, methacrylate, and styrene with 4‐(oxyethoxy)‐4′‐vinylbarbituratephenyl azobenzene chromophore are described. The monomers were well characterized (NMR, UV, and IR) for the structure. These were then homopolymerized and characterized for spectral responses and thermal properties. Transverse load sensing by use of pi-phase-shifted fiber Bragg gratings

The birefringence of a pi -phase-shifted fiber Bragg grating can be determined with high accuracy by measurement of the polarization-induced spectral splitting of its narrow central transmission window. The use of this feature for sensing of a load applied in the direction transverse to the optical fiber is demonstrated. A distributed force resolution of 1.4x10(-3) N/mm was obtained, which corresponds to a difference in the principal strains of the fiber core of 0.5mu? . We also show that the transverse load response of the sensor is insensitive to temperature.     

Thorium under strong compression—a test case for the evaluation of EOS data by different forms and procedures

Abstract

X-ray diffraction on Thorium under pressures to 300 GPa at ambient temperature provides new EOS data for both the (low pressure) fcc phase as well as for the (high pressure) bct phase. A detailed evaluation of these data and a comparison with previous results shows systematic differences in the fitted parameters resulting from the use of different EOS forms and from the correlations in the parameters used in all these fitting procedures. The absolute uncertainties in these parameters are elucidated and special attention is given to the compatibility of different EOS forms for phases which are related by second order transitions.     

Extendability and von Neuman–Morgenstern stability of the core

This paper introduces a strengthening of the notion of a stable core and characterizes it in terms of Kikuta and Shapley’s extendability condition.     

Thorium: Phase transformations and equation of state to 300 GPa

Abstract

Equation of state and phase transformations of thorium metal have been investigated to 300 GPa at 300 K in a diamond anvil cell using energy dispersive X-ray diffraction employing synchrotron source. Phase transformations in the 70–100 GPa range indicative of 5f-electron bonding are observed and thorium metal is isostructural with its 4f counterpart cerium at ultra high pressures. The measured static equation of state of thorium to 300GPa (volume fraction V/V _o = 0.40) at 300K is given. At high pressures, the sd to f electronic transfer has significant influence on the measured equation of state of thorium.
