The mutual influence of ligands in transition metal bis-chelates

Electronic structure quantum chemical calculations of the Fe(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) bis-chelate series are reported. The nature of the ligand mutual influence effect on these compounds is elucidated. This effect manifests itself in polarization of metal—ligand bonds. The ligands which have highly covalent bonds with the metal form bonds of even greater covalent character in mixed complexes, whereas bonds for the other ligands become more ionic.     

Electronic regioselectivity in the reactions of pyridinium ylides with tetracyanoethylene

Highly regioselective reactions of pyridinium ylides with tetracyanoethylene occur via an Ad_N-E mechanism to form Z-isomers of 3-aroyl-3-(1-pyridinio)-1,1,2-tricyano-2-propenides-1, corresponding in structure to 1,4-ylides with maximum charge separation. If the unsaturated nitrite starting material contains a nucleofugal group 1,2-elimination predominates over 1,3-elimination.Translated from Khimiya Geterotsiklicheskikh Soedinenii, No. 8, pp. 1087–1094, August, 1991.     

Molecular structure of N-mesityl-6H-anthra[9,1-bc]pyrrol-6-one

The molecular and crystalline structure of 1-(2,4,6-trimethylphenyl)-6H-anthra-[9,1-bc]pyrrol-6-one was determined by the x-ray structural method. There is a larger uniformity of the bonds in the benzene ring of the isoindole fragment than in the N-substituted isoindoles; this derives from the electronic influence of the keto group. Constituents of holothuroidea.9. Isolation and structure of a new ganglioside molecular species from the sea cucumber Holothuria pervicax

A new ganglioside molecular species, HPG-7 (1) was obtained from the polar fraction of the chloroform/methanol extract of the sea cucumber, Holothuria pervicax. On the basis of chemical and spectroscopic evidence, the structure of 1 was determined, and the major component was 1-O-[alpha-L-fucopyranosyl-(1-->4)-(N-acetyl-alpha-D-neuraminosyl) - (2-->11)-(N-glycolyl-alpha-D-neuraminosyl)-(2-->4)-(N-acetyl -alpha-D- neuraminosyl)-(2-->6)-beta-D-glucopyranosyl]-(2S,3S,4R)-2-[(2R)-2- hydroxytetracosanoylamino]-14-methyl-hexadecane-1,3,4-triol. This is the first report on the isolation and structure elucidation of trisialo-ganglioside from sea cucumber. 1 showed neuritogenic activity toward the rat pheochromocytoma cell line, PC-12 cell.     

Effect of Mechanochemical Activation on the Catalytic Properties of Ferrites with the Spinel Structure

It was found experimentally that stacking defects formed in the mechanochemical activation of zinc ferrite enhanced the specific catalytic activity in the reaction of CO oxidation. The specific rate of CO oxidation was a linear function of defect concentration, which was determined using Mössbauer spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction. A conclusion was drawn that the same centers are responsible for an increase in the catalytic activity, the sorption capacity for hydrogen sulfide, and the reactivity of zinc ferrite in the interaction with hydrochloric acid. It was assumed that analogous factors caused an increase in the catalytic activity and reactivity of magnesium ferrite.
