Stratifiable Families of Extremals and Sufficient Conditions for Optimality in Optimal Control Problems

It is shown that, if a parametrized fämily of extremals F can be stratified in a way compatible with the flow map generated by F, then those trajectories of the family which realize the minimal values of the cost in F are indeed optimal in comparison with all trajectories which lie in the region R covered by the trajectories of F. It is not assumed that F is a field covering the state space injectively. As illustration, an optimal synthesis is constructed for a system where the flow of extremals exhibits a simple cusp singularity.     

Synthesis and electrical characteristics of polyaniline nanoparticles and their polymeric composite

Monodisperse polyaniline nanoparticles (PAPSSA) were synthesized from an oxidative dispersion polymerization using poly(sodium 4-styrenesulfonate) (PSSA) as both a polymeric stabilizer and a dopant agent due to its acidity. The nanoparticles were being stabilized with two different molecular weight of PSSA. Size effect of PAPSSA particles were examined by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and dynamic light scattering (DLS). The d.c. electrical conductivity of composite films on the glass substrate was measured by a four-probe method. It was found that the electrical properties of the composite films are affected by the content of nano-sized polyaniline and different molecular weights of stabilizer in the poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) matrix.     

Dispersion and distribution of organically modified montmorillonite in nylon‐66 matrix

Nylon‐66 nanocomposites were prepared by melt‐compounding nylon‐66 with an alkyl ammonium surfactant pretreated montmorillonite (MMT). The thermal stability of the organic MMT powders was measured by thermogravimetric analysis. The decomposition of the surfactant on the MMT occurred from 200 to 500 °C. The low onset decomposition temperature of the organic MMT is one shortcoming when it is used to prepare polymer nanocomposites at high melt‐compounding temperatures. To provide greater property enhancement and better thermal stability of the polymer/MMT nanocomposites, it is necessary to develop MMT modified with more thermally stable surfactants. The dispersion and spatial distribution of the organic MMT layers in the nylon‐66 matrix were characterized by X‐ray diffraction. The organic MMT layers were exfoliated but not randomly dispersed in the nylon‐66 matrix. A model was proposed to describe the spatial distribution of the organic MMT layers in an injection‐molded rectangular bar of nylon‐66/organic MMT nanocomposites. Most organic MMT layers were oriented in the injection‐molding direction. Layers near the four surfaces of the bar were parallel to their corresponding surfaces; whereas those in the bulk differed from the near‐surface layers and rotated themselves about the injection‐molding direction. The influence of the spatial distribution of the organic MMT on crystallization of nylon‐66 was also investigated. © 2003 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Insights on some chiral smectic phases

Combining layered positional order as smectic order and chirality can generate complex architectures since twist parallel to the layers is not allowed. This paper will review some new experimental results on different phases resulting from the competition between smectic positional order and twist orientational order. It concerns the TGB_A and the NL^*, that is the liquid line phase as well as the SmQ phase. Chiral effects in the isotropic phase will also be discussed.     

Broadening the scope of 1,2,4-triazine synthesis by the application of microwave technology

By the application of microwave technology, a general protocol has been developed for the rapid synthesis of diverse 3,5,6-trisubstituted 1,2,4-triazines in excellent yield and purity, including many previously unknown 3-heterocyclic-1,2,4-triazines.     

High power diode single-end-pumped Nd:YVO4 laser

A fiber-coupled diode-single-end-pumped Nd:YVO₄ laser with an Nd:YVO₄ crystal of 0.3 at% doping concentration and 3×3×10 mm³ dimensions was reported. 14.850 W of continuous-wave output power in an M² factor of 1.12 was obtained under pump power of 27.365 W, with an optical conversion efficiency of 60.49%, and a slope efficiency of 64.5%.

构造了第孙中禹种强度不等的非对称三态叠加多模叠加态光场|ψ₁^(ABC)〉_q.利用多模压缩态理论研究了态|ψ₁^(ABC)〉_q第一正交分量高次和压缩.结果发现:①当构成态|ψ₁^(ABC)〉_q的三个多模相干态光场的强度不相等时,在一定条件下,态|ψ₁^(ABC)〉_q的第一正交分量可出现任意幂次的高次和压缩.②当上述的三个多模相干态光场强度相等时,态|ψ₁^(ABC)〉_q的第一正交分量的高次和压缩现象消失.在这种情况下,态|ψ₁^(ABC)〉_q的第一正交分量恒处于NH最小测不准态.     

The minimizing of the Nielsen root classes

Given a map f: X→Y and a Nielsen root class, there is a number associated to this root class, which is the minimal number of points among all root classes which are H-related to the given one for all homotopies H of the map f. We show that for maps between closed surfaces it is possible to deform f such that all the Nielsen root classes have cardinality equal to the minimal number if and only if either N R[f]≤1, or N R[f]>1 and f satisfies the Wecken property. Here N R[f] denotes the Nielsen root number. The condition “f satisfies the Wecken property is known to be equivalent to |deg(f)|≤N R[f]/(1−χ(M ₂)−χ(M ₁0/(1−χ(M ₂)) for maps between closed orientable surfaces. In the case of nonorientable surfaces the condition is A(f)≤N R[f]/(1−χ(M ₂)−χ(M ₂)/(1−χ(M ₂)). Also we construct, for each integer n≥3, an example of a map f: K _n →N from an n-dimensionally connected complex of dimension n to an n-dimensional manifold such that we cannot deform f in a way that all the Nielsen root classes reach the minimal number of points at the same time.     

Lattice parameter and luminescence properties of europium activated yttrium oxide

Samples of yttrium oxide doped with trivalent europium have been prepared by ceramic techniques, under different synthesis conditions; barium chloride (BaCl₂) and sodium tetraborate (Na₂B₄O₇) were tested as flux. The improvement of luminescence properties in dependence on substitution of Eu³⁺ for Y³⁺ in the host lattice, under electron and UV excitations is demonstrated. The lattice parameter as a quantitative assessment of activator incorporation degree is proposed. The obtained results are discussed with respect to the employed processing method.
