A characterization of the \Sigma_1-definable functions of KP\omega + (uniform\; AC)

The subject of this paper is a characterization of the -definable set functions of Kripke-Platek set theory with infinity and a uniform version of axiom of choice: . This class of functions is shown to coincide with the collection of set functionals of type 1 primitive recursive in a given choice functional and . This goal is achieved by a G?del Dialectica-style functional interpretation of and a computability proof for the involved functionals. Received October 9, 1996     

Two Ergodic Sample-Path Properties of the Poisson Process

For increasing sequences of real numbers we consider two types of asymptotic behavior that remind of the defining property of a (homogeneous) Poisson process according to which the numbers of points in disjoint intervals are independent and follow Poisson distributions with specified parameters. We prove that almost all paths of a Poisson process show this asymptotic behavior, and characterize the Poisson process by these properties. Further we discuss the connection to equidistribution notions.     

Bifurcation for a semilinear elliptic equation on ℛN with radially symmetric coefficients

We consider the semilinear eigenvalue problem on ^N (N 2) (N2) and investigate the question under which conditions on the radially symmetric function q, =0 is a bifurcation point for this equation in H¹, In H² and in L^p for 2p+.

Summary Following a suggestion of J. Goodisman, we substitute the therm by in the Thomas-Fermi-von Weizsäcker energy functional for atoms.f _z³ [0,1] is a function depending on the nuclear chargez.We establish conditions for the functionsf _z such that the ratio of this modified TFW-energyE _kz ^/TFWG (z) (kz is the total number of electrons) and the exact quantum mechanical energy converges to 1 asz. Moreover, we prove thatE _kz ^/TFWG (z)=E _kz ^/TFW (z)+Dz ²+o(z ²) (z) and determineD. Here,E _kz ^/TFW (z) is the unmodified TFW energy.

Goodismans folgend, ersetzen wir in dem Thomas-Fermi-von Weizsäcker Energiefunktional für Atome den Term durch .f _z³ [0,1] ist hierbei eine Funktion, die von der Kernladungszahlz abhängt.Wir geben dann Bedingungen für die Funktionenf _z an, unter denen der Quotient der so modifizierten TFW-energieE _kz ^/TFWG (z) (kz=Anzahl der Elektronen) und der exakten quantenmechanischen Energie fürz gegen 1 konvergiert. Optisch aktive übergangsmetall-komplexe XX. Optisch aktive cyclopentadienyl-perfluoropropyl-kobalt-komplexe mit zweizähnigen schiff-basen

In the reaction of C₅H₅ Co(C₃F₇)(CO)I with the Schiff base NN′, derived from S-(-)-?-phenylethylamine and pyridine carbaldehyde-2, the salt [C₅H₅Co(C₃F₇)NN′]⁺ I^? (Ia,b) is formed, which can be transformed to [C₅H₅ Co(C₃F₇)NN′]⁺ PF₆^? (IIa,b). The sodium salt Na⁺ [NN″]^? of the Schiff base, derived from S-(-)-α-phenylethylamine and pyrrol carbaldehyde-2, in the reaction with C₅H₅ C0(C₃F₇)(CO)I yields the neutral complex C₅H₅ Co(C₃F₇)NN″ (IIIa,b). The diastereoisomeric pairs IIa,b and IIIa,b are separated by fractional crystallisation and chromatography respectively into the optically pure components which differ in their ¹H NMR spectra. The IR, UV, CD, mass spectra and optical rotations of the new compounds IIa, IIb, IIIa and IIIb are compared.     

A Highly Stereoselective Synthesis of C(11)-Functionalized Aromatic Steroids by an Intramolecular Benzocyclobutene-Olefin -Cycloaddition. Preliminary Communication

The racemic cis-anti-trans-steroids 9 to 11 have been synthesized in a highly stereoselective manner starting from 4-methoxybenzocyclobutene carboxylic acid via the key step 8 → 9 . (cf. Scheme 2).
