Summary Metal complexes of 2-acetylpyridineN-oxide thiosemicarbazone have been prepared and characterized. Coordination occurs as a neutral bidentate (ON) and a deprotonated tridentate (ONS) ligand.

An ion-exchange method for the detection of amides,imides and anilides

Ion-exchange resins are efficient catalysts for the acid hydrolysis of amides, imides and anilides; the ammonium ion or aniline so formed can be detected by the well-known specific tests for these species. In general, the proposed tests are simpler, faster and more selective than those already available. The amounts that can be detected are of the order of 0.05–5 μg depending on the compound.     

Solvent effects on the acid-catalyzed hydrolysis of tetramethylurea

Tetramethylurea was hydrolyzed in aqueous hydrochloric acid at temperatures of 80, 90, and 100°C. All reactions were carried out in an excess of both tetramethylurea and water, with first-order dependence on acid concentration being observed. As the concentration of water was increased, the rate of hydrolysis decreased until equimolar amounts of water and tetramethylurea were present. Subsequent addition of water had no effect on the observed rate.     

Core line asymmetries in XPS-spectra of metals

The asymmetric lineshapes predicted to arise from the coupling of the core hole to the conduction electrons have been observed in X-ray photoemission from a number of 4d and 5d metals.     

The two-loop β-function in models with extended rigid supersymmetry

The two-loop propagators and β-function of a general N =2 supersymmetric model comprising N = 2 Yang-Mills coupled to sets of N = 2 hypermultiplets are calculated by N = 1 supergraph techniques. It is shown that all such models are finite at two loops while a subset is also finite at the one-loop level. The calculation thus confirms the finiteness theorems, and shows that they are valid at the two-loop level even if the hypermultiplet is in a complex representation of the gauge group.
