Inversion problem including a long-ranged Coulomb potential

In this note we extend the WKB inverse problem which involved a short-ranged potential to include a combined long and short-ranged potential.     

Maximal hypersurfaces in stationary asymptotically flat spacetimes

Existence of maximal hypersurfaces and of foliations by maximal hypersurfaces is proven in two classes of asymptotically flat spacetimes which possess a one parameter group of isometries whose orbits are timelike near infinity.. The first class consists of strongly causal asymptotically flat spacetimes which contain no black hole or white hole (but may contain ergoregions where the Killing orbits fail to be timelike). The second class of spacetimes possess a black hole and a white hole, with the black and white hole horizons intersecting in a compact 2-surfaceS.Supported in part by KBN grant #2 1047 9101Supported in part by NSF grant PHY-8918388.     

Untersuchungen mit markierten Atomen über den Einfluß der Infektion mit Tabakmosaikvirus auf die Nukleinsäuresynthese in Nicotiana tabacum

Zusammenfassung Pflanzen von Nicotiana tabacum wurden mit Tabakmosaik-virus (TMV) infiziert und in bestimmten Zeitabständen nach der Infektion 24 Stdn. lang der Radiophotosynthese unterworfen. Die Radioaktivität der TMV-RNS und der pufferlöslichen und pufferunlöslichen pflanzeneigenen Nukleinsäuren wurde bestimmt.In der Fraktion der pufferlöslichen Pflanzen-Nukleinsäure konnten keine größeren Veränderungen als Folge der TMV-Infektionen festgestellt werden.Die pufferunlösliche Pflanzen-Nukleinsäure weist hingegen ein völlig anderes Verhalten auf. In dieser Fraktion wurden mit Alkohol nicht fällbare Substanzen gefunden, deren spezifische Aktivität wesentlich höher als die der alkoholfällbaren NS (RNS und DNS) dieser Fraktion ist. Ihre gesamte und spezifische Radioaktivität nimmt mit fortschreitendem TMV-Wachstum stark zu, während die Radioaktivität der RNS und DNS sich nur wenig ändert.Mit 3 Abbildungen     

Background vapor from six ionic liquids and the partition coefficients and limits of detection for 10 different analytes in those ionic liquids measured using headspace gas chromatography

The concentration and identity of the compounds detected in the vapor above six ionic liquids by headspace gas chromatography (HS-GC) at 100 degrees C are reported. In addition, the partition coefficients for 10 different compounds in these ionic liquids and limits of detection were measured. These results provide quantitative guidance for the application of ionic liquids for HS-GC.     

Control of diastereoselectivity by solvent effects in the addition of Grignard reagents to enantiopure t-butylsulfinimine: syntheses of the stereoisomers of the hydroxyl derivatives of sibutramine

[reaction: see text] An efficient method has been developed to prepare all four isomers of the hydroxyl derivatives of sibutramine by addition of Grignard reagents (R)- or (S)-5 to a single enantiomer of sulfinyl imine (R)-1 simply by tuning the reaction solvent. The phenomenon of the reversed diastereoselectivity in CH(2)Cl(2) and THF implied that the reaction may proceed through a chelated cyclic transition state in CH(2)Cl(2) and nonchelated acyclic transition state in THF.
