Thin films of polyelectrolyte/J aggregate dye bilayers with high absorption coefficient (6 nm thick with alpha approximately equal to 1.0 x 10(6) cm(-1)) inserted in an optical microcavity enable the cavity quantum electrodynamic strong coupling limit to be reached at room temperature with a coupling strength (Rabi splitting) of 265 +/- 15 meV. By embedding these films in a resonant cavity organic LED structure, we demonstrate the first emissive electrically pumped exciton-polariton device. 相似文献

Recent proposals for using plasma wakefield accelerators (PWFA) as a component of a linear collider have included intense electron beams with densities many times in excess of the plasma density. The beam's electric fields expel the plasma electrons from the beam path to many beam radii in this regime. We analyze here the motion of plasma ions under the beam fields, and find for a proposed PWFA collider scenario that the ions completely collapse inside of the beam. Simulations of ion collapse are presented. Implications of ion motion on the feasibility of the PWFA-based colliders are discussed. 相似文献

Dynamic alteration of shim settings during a multi-slice imaging experiment can improve static magnetic-field homogeneity over extended volumes. In this report, a pre-emphasized dynamic shim updating (DSU) system capable of rapidly updating all non-degenerate zeroth through second-order shims is presented and applied to high-field multi-slice imaging studies on the human brain. DSU is utilized in both non-oblique and oblique slicing geometries while updating in-plane and through-slice shims. Image-based magnetic-field maps are used to quantify homogeneity improvements and comparisons are made on a slice-specific basis between static global shimming and increasing orders of shim inclusion utilized DSU. The influence of oblique slicing geometry on DSU-utilized global homogeneity is also quantified computationally. Finally, the effect of DSU on susceptibility artifact reduction in single-shot axial-sliced EPI is analyzed using experimental acquisitions. 相似文献

The extent and magnitude of microvascular leakage induced by myocardial contrast echocardiography (MCE) were characterized with contrast-aided magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Evans blue dye, Definity ultrasound contrast agent and Omniscan magnetic resonance contrast agent were injected intravenously in anesthetized rats suspended in a water bath. Diagnostic ultrasound B mode scans with 1:4 end-systolic triggering were performed at 1.5 MHz using a cardiac phased array scanhead to provide a short axis view of the left ventricle. The in situ peak rarefactional pressure amplitude (PRPA) was 2.0 MPa. Microvascular leakage was characterized by extraction of the dye from tissue samples and by imaging the distribution and concentration of Omniscan within the myocardium. The extracted Evans blue was 2.3 times greater than in shams (P<.05) for heart samples perfused with heparin saline, and 1.6 times greater than shams (not significant) for unperfused samples. The MRI showed the penetration of the ultrasound-induced capillary leakage throughout much of the scan plane. The overall gadolinium content measured by MR showed the same trends as the extracted Evans blue, but was more variable. For pooled data (perfused and unperfused), the exposed samples were significantly increased (P<.05) relative to the sham samples for both Evans blue and gadolinium content. Omniscan leakage was also discernable in two of four MRIs from intact rats (after sacrifice). These results demonstrate a potential for MR mapping of capillary leakage induced by contrast-aided ultrasound, with a possible application to spatial characterization of local drug delivery. 相似文献

By combining data from cosmic microwave background experiments (including the recent WMAP third year results), large scale structure, and Lyman-alpha forest observations, we constrain the hypothesis of a fourth, sterile, massive neutrino. For the 3 massless+1 massive neutrino case, we bound the mass of the sterile neutrino to ms<0.26 eV (0.44 eV) at 95% (99.9%) C.L., which excludes at high significance the sterile neutrino hypothesis as an explanation of the LSND anomaly. We generalize the analysis to account for active neutrino masses and the possibility that the sterile abundance is not thermal. In the latter case, the contraints in the plane are nontrivial. For a mass of >1 or <0.05 eV, the cosmological energy density in sterile neutrinos is always constrained to be omeganu<0.003 at 95% C.L., but for a mass of approximately 0.25 eV, omeganu can be as large as 0.01. 相似文献

DNA melting under torsion plays an important role in a wide variety of cellular processes. In the present Letter, we have investigated DNA melting at the single-molecule level using an angular optical trap. By directly measuring force, extension, torque, and angle of DNA, we determined the structural and elastic parameters of torsionally melted DNA. Our data reveal that under moderate forces, the melted DNA assumes a left-handed structure as opposed to an open bubble conformation and is highly torsionally compliant. We have also discovered that at low forces melted DNA properties are highly dependent on DNA sequence. These results provide a more comprehensive picture of the global DNA force-torque phase diagram. 相似文献

A reactivity study was undertaken to compare and assess the rate of dechlorination of chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons (CAHs)
by annealed and non-annealed nanoscale iron particles. The current study aims to resolve the uncertainties in recently published
work studying the effect of the annealing process on the reduction capability of nanoscale Fe particles. Comparison of the
normalized rate constants (m2/h/L) obtained for dechlorination reactions of trichloroethene (TCE) and cis-1,2-dichloroethene (cis-1,2-DCE) indicated that
annealing nanoscale Fe particles increases their reactivity ~30-fold. An electron transfer reaction mechanism for both types
of nanoscale particles was found to be responsible for CAH dechlorination, rather than a reduction reaction by activated H2 on the particle surface (i.e., hydrogenation, hydrogenolysis). Surface analysis of the particulate material using X-ray diffraction
(XRD) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) together with surface area measurement by Brunauer, Emmett, Teller (BET)
indicate that the vacuum annealing process decreases the surface area and increases crystallinity. BET surface area analysis
recorded a decrease in nanoscale Fe particle surface area from 19.0 to 4.8 m2/g and crystallite dimensions inside the particle increased from 8.7 to 18.2 nm as a result of annealing. 相似文献
