Three-loop relation of quark\overline {MS} and pole masses

We calculate, exactly, the next-to-leading correction to the relation between the \(\overline {MS} \) quark mass, \(\bar m\) , and the scheme-independent pole mass,M, and obtain $$\begin{gathered} \frac{M}{{\bar m(M)}} \approx 1 + \frac{4}{3}\frac{{\bar \alpha _s (M)}}{\pi } + \left[ {16.11 - 1.04\sum\limits_{i = 1}^{N_F - 1} {(1 - M_i /M)} } \right] \hfill \\ \cdot \left( {\frac{{\bar \alpha _s (M)}}{\pi }} \right)^2 + 0(\bar \alpha _s^3 (M)), \hfill \\ \end{gathered} $$ as an accurate approximation forN _F?1 light quarks of massesM _i <M. Combining this new result with known three-loop results for \(\overline {MS} \) coupling constant and mass renormalization, we relate the pole mass to the \(\overline {MS} \) mass, \(\bar m\) (μ), renormalized at arbitrary μ. The dominant next-to-leading correction comes from the finite part of on-shell two-loop mass renormalization, evaluated using integration by parts and checked by gauge invariance and infrared finiteness. Numerical results are given for charm and bottom \(\overline {MS} \) masses at μ=1 GeV. The next-to-leading corrections are comparable to the leading corrections.     

Inclusive production of vector mesons in π+ p interactions at 250 GeV/c

We report on a study of ρ⁰, ρ⁺, ω, \(\bar K^{*0} (892)\) andK ^*0 (892) inclusive production in π⁺ p interactions at 250 GeV/c, for ρ⁺, \(\bar K^{*0} (892)\) for the first time in a π⁺ p experiment. The data are compared withK ⁺ p data in the same experiment, with results of other experiments and with quark-parton models. Interesting differences are found between ρ^+,0 and ω production.     

Sensitivity ofn-p scattering observables to charge-independence breaking of the3 P N-N phase shifts

The sensitivity of neutron-proton scattering observables to the recently reported charge-independence breaking of the isospinT=1³ P nucleon-nucleon interaction has been calculated. It is shown that only the analyzing powerA _y () at extreme forward angles and at =90° c.m. and the spin-correlation coefficientA _zx () at 90° c.m. exhibit a measurable sensitivity. It is concluded that the determination ofA _y at 90° c.m. is currently the most accurate approach to verify independently charge-independence breaking in the³ P nucleon-nucleon phase shifts, considering the status of present experimental techniques.     

Inclusive\bar K^{0*} (892) andK 0*(892) production on silicon by 200 GeVK − andπ −

The production of the neutralK ^? (892) resonances by 200 GeVK ^? andπ ^? has been studied over the kinematic range 0.0<x _f<1.0 andp _t ² <5.0 GeV². Longitudinal and transverse momentum distributions are presented. In addition the decay angular distributions inK ^? fragmentation to \(\bar K^{0*} \) have been investigated.     

The decay of theZ boson into four massive fermions

We calculate, the partial width for the tree level decay of theZ boson into four massive fermions atO(α²) and \(O(\alpha _s^2 )\) . Analytic expressions for the helicity amplitudes are presented. We also present ‘observable’ widths for the case when the fermions are energetic and well separated, and make a comparison between the massive and massless matrix elements in this region. We make a direct comparison between the four fermion decay and the production and decay of the Higgs boson via the Bjorken mechanism, \(Z \to H\mu ^ + \mu ^ - \to q\bar q\mu ^ + \mu ^ - \) . Provided the detector resolution is good, \(\Delta m_{q\bar q} \) ～ few GeV, the Higgs signal stands clearly above the four fermion background for all Higgs boson masses considered.     

Plunger measurements on highly stripped O-ions as tool for detecting electron polarization on emergence from thin ferromagnetic layers

From hyperfine interaction studles on free single electron¹⁶O(3⁻) ions. in a time differential mode using the recoil distance technique. It is shown that these ions are polarized when emerging from magnetized thin layers of Fe. The observed degree of polarization , however, is smaller than expected from transient field measurements.     

Multisites Cr3+ in GGG and GSGG garnets

The emission and excitation spectra of Cr³⁺ -doped Gd₃Ga₅O₁₂ (GGG) and Gd₃Sc₂Ga₃O₁₂ (GSGG) are explained in the light of multisite effects. The situation is particularly complicated in the case of GSGG, where the different sites have²E energy levels near each other which overlap with the⁴A₂ ⁴T₂ absorption bands. The spectra obtained under selective excitations are interpreted on the multisite assumption.
